What the original $200-off deal included
AppleInsider reported the offer on May 13, 2025. The advertised product was a new, 14-inch MacBook Pro in Space Black with Apple’s M4 Pro chip, 24GB of unified memory and a 1TB SSD. The chip configuration had a 12-core CPU and 16-core GPU. B&H Photo’s reported price was $1,999, described as $200 below the regular price, with free two-day shipping in the contiguous United States at the time.
The exact deal is documented in the original AppleInsider report. That report does not establish that the same price, inventory or shipping terms still exist. A retailer page must be checked before treating any listing as available.
Is this deal still available?
There is no reliable basis for calling the $1,999 offer a live 2026 deal without a current retailer listing. Prices, coupons and inventory for previous-generation Macs change quickly, and a deal article from 2025 cannot verify a price in 2026.

If you find a listing that appears to match it, check every field rather than relying on the abbreviated product title:
- Confirm it is the 14-inch model, not a 16-inch model or a smaller MacBook Pro configuration.
- Verify the chip is M4 Pro with 12 CPU cores and 16 GPU cores, not the standard M4.
- Confirm 24GB memory and 1TB storage; 16GB/512GB versions are materially different products.
- Check that the unit is new, rather than refurbished, open-box or clearance stock.
- Identify the actual seller, particularly on marketplace listings.
- Determine whether the reduction is automatic or requires an on-page coupon, membership, credit-card promotion or specific color.
- Review tax, shipping cost, delivery estimate, stock status and the return deadline.
Record the pre-discount and final prices separately. A retailer’s displayed “list price” is not, by itself, proof that the saving is genuine.
Why “Apple’s latest M4 Pro” is outdated
The M4 MacBook Pro family was current when Apple announced it on October 30, 2024. Apple’s announcement covers the M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max systems, including Thunderbolt 5 on M4 Pro and M4 Max models, a 12MP Center Stage camera and Liquid Retina XDR displays. Apple subsequently announced a 14-inch MacBook Pro with the standard M5 chip on October 15, 2025. It became available October 22, 2025 and had a U.S. starting price of $1,599 at announcement. Apple then introduced 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max in March 2026. Those releases mean an M4 Pro is now a previous-generation MacBook Pro, not Apple’s latest model. The relevant announcements are Apple’s M5 announcement and Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max announcement.

12-core M4 Pro performance
The M4 Pro configuration is aimed at sustained professional work: compiling large software projects, running containers and virtual machines, editing high-resolution photos, producing 4K or 8K video, rendering 3D scenes and experimenting with local AI models. It is substantially more capable than a base M4 MacBook Pro for heavily parallel workloads, but it does not automatically outperform every M5 or M5 Pro configuration.
Apple describes M5-generation gains in AI, graphics, CPU and SSD performance relative to M4. Those comparisons are Apple’s own claims using specified test systems, not independent benchmarks, so they should be treated as directional rather than universal results.

24GB unified memory
Twenty-four gigabytes is a sensible professional baseline for development, creative applications and extensive multitasking. Memory is shared by the CPU and GPU and cannot be upgraded later. Developers running several virtual machines, large datasets or local AI models may benefit from 48GB or more; choosing extra memory at purchase is usually more useful than spending that budget on accessories.
1TB internal storage
One terabyte is a meaningful advantage over 512GB for video footage, RAW photo libraries, sample libraries, virtual-machine images and development toolchains. An external SSD can lower the purchase cost, but it adds a cable or enclosure and is less convenient for files used constantly. If your working files fit comfortably on external storage, a cheaper 512GB model can be reasonable; otherwise, the 1TB configuration is the more practical professional choice.
14-inch size
The 14-inch chassis is easier to carry and normally costs less than a 16-inch model. The 16-inch version offers a larger workspace and typically more thermal and battery capacity, but adds weight and cost. A 14-inch MacBook Pro paired with a dock and external display is often the better fit for people who travel and work at a desk.
How to compare it with M5 and M5 Pro models
Compare the total price of equivalent memory and storage, not just the headline discount. The key question is the gap between this M4 Pro configuration and a current M5 Pro with similar capacity.

Use these as buying rules rather than market facts: a gap of $400–$500 or more below a comparable M5 Pro is a strong reason to consider the M4 Pro; $300–$400 can be reasonable if you do not need the newest silicon; under $300 is weak value, especially when memory and storage are equal; and a gap of roughly $200 or less usually favors the newer model.
Who should buy a discounted M4 Pro
- Professionals who need sustained CPU and GPU performance but do not require the newest generation.
- Developers using compilers, containers or virtual machines who value 24GB memory.
- Editors, photographers and musicians who need 1TB of local storage.
- Buyers who find a large price gap between this machine and a similarly equipped M5 Pro.
- Owners planning to keep the laptop for a moderate period and who are comfortable buying previous-generation hardware.
Who should skip it
- Anyone paying nearly as much as a comparable M5 Pro.
- Buyers prioritizing the longest possible support runway or the newest AI and graphics features.
- Users whose workload needs 48GB or more of memory.
- Anyone looking at a 512GB listing when their projects require 1TB or more.
- Buyers dealing with an unfamiliar marketplace seller, unclear warranty or restrictive return policy.
- People expecting a major chassis or port redesign; M4 Pro and M5 Pro systems share much of the same professional feature set, so price, chip generation, memory and storage matter more.
Retailer, warranty and condition checks
Before paying, verify Apple warranty eligibility with the serial number and confirm whether the Mac has already been activated. Check the retailer’s return period, restocking fees, dead-pixel and cosmetic-damage rules, and whether AppleCare+ remains available. For marketplace listings, the marketplace name is not necessarily the seller or warranty provider.

A refurbished M4 Pro can make sense when it is substantially cheaper than new stock, includes a dependable warranty and discloses battery and cosmetic condition. A small discount is not enough compensation for uncertain battery health or a short return window.

Current 14-inch M5
Apple’s official buying page for the 14-inch MacBook Pro is Apple’s 14-inch MacBook Pro store. The M5 model may be the better choice when your applications do not need Pro-tier cores and you value a newer generation, but compare memory and storage carefully.
M5 Pro in 14 or 16 inches
Use Apple’s MacBook Pro buying page to compare current M5 Pro configurations. It is the appropriate benchmark for a professional buyer considering the M4 Pro. The newer model is generally preferable when the price difference is modest or you expect a long ownership period.
Apple refurbished stock
Apple Certified Refurbished Mac inventory changes frequently. It can provide Apple’s support ecosystem at a lower price, but configuration and availability are limited and must be checked at purchase.

Trade-in and financing
Apple Trade In provides a device-specific quote that may be lower than private-sale value. Compare both before deciding. Financing can reduce the monthly payment without reducing the total price. Apple’s M5 announcement says Apple Card Monthly Installments may be available at 0% APR in the United States, subject to eligibility and current terms; see Apple’s Apple Card page.
AppleCare+ coverage and current pricing should be confirmed on Apple’s Mac support-products page. It may be worthwhile for a laptop carried frequently, but it is not automatically good value for a short ownership period or a buyer comfortable self-insuring.
Bottom line
The $1,999 B&H offer was a legitimate reported $200 reduction for a specific 14-inch M4 Pro with 24GB memory and 1TB storage in May 2025. It should now be treated as a historical reference, not proof of a live bargain. If a verified listing reappears, buy it when it is at least $400–$500 below a comparable M5 Pro and the new condition, seller, warranty and return terms are clear. If the gap is smaller, choose the current M5 Pro or a suitably configured M5 instead.
