Yes, Twitch has already expanded monetization. As of May 13, 2026, eligible streamers worldwide can activate subscriptions, Bits, emotes, badges and Channel Points before becoming Affiliates. But the change does not let every new account withdraw cash immediately: Twitch says non-Affiliate, non-Partner streamers are not eligible for payouts.
The practical distinction is simple: you can receive viewer support and build a Twitch balance earlier, while Affiliate or Partner status is still required to turn that balance into a normal Twitch payout.
What Twitch changed
Twitch first outlined the plan in CEO Dan Clancy’s February 27, 2025 open letter, which said subscriptions and Bits would become available to most streamers from day one (Twitch’s open letter). Twitch previewed selected pre-Affiliate tools at TwitchCon Rotterdam on May 31, 2025 (TwitchCon announcement).
On May 13, 2026, Twitch announced that its “Monetization for All” rollout was becoming available globally to eligible streamers over the following week (Twitch’s global announcement). The old assumption that a creator must first reach Affiliate status to use every monetization-related tool is therefore outdated.

Which tools are available before Affiliate?
Twitch’s announcement specifically names five tools. Availability depends on account eligibility, region, onboarding and Twitch’s current controls; it is not a promise that an account created minutes ago will show every feature instantly.
Subscriptions
Viewers can subscribe to an eligible channel before it reaches 25 followers or the usual average-viewer requirement. Subscriptions are viewer-funded support, but the resulting balance remains subject to Twitch’s payout rules.
Bits
Eligible viewers can Cheer with Bits, giving a new channel another Twitch-native support method. Bits activity can contribute to the creator’s balance without making the creator immediately payout-eligible.
Channel Points
Channel Points are a community-engagement feature. They let viewers redeem rewards you configure and do not, by themselves, represent cash revenue.

These identity and community tools help a small channel establish a recognizable subscriber experience earlier. They are access features, not a guarantee of a particular revenue share.

Twitch’s help center has broader Monetization dashboard categories, including ads, Bits and Cheering, community and subscriptions. That menu structure should not be read as proof that every non-Affiliate can run ads or receive ad revenue. Twitch’s named pre-Affiliate rollout does not include universal advertising access (Twitch monetization help).
Why “make money” does not mean “cash out”
Twitch’s current help documentation says non-Affiliate, non-Partner streamers are not eligible for payouts, even if their balance reaches the normal payout threshold. This is the most important limitation behind the headline.
Spendable Balance
Before Affiliate, an eligible creator may have a Twitch balance that can be used as Spendable Balance. Twitch says it can fund purchases such as Bits and gifted subscriptions. You could use it to support your own community or other creators, but it is not equivalent to unrestricted income that can be transferred to a bank or PayPal account.
After you become an Affiliate and meet the applicable payout requirements, Twitch says you may elect a normal payout or continue using Spendable Balance. Regional rules, taxes, payment methods and account status can affect the exact process.
If you reach $50 before Affiliate
Nothing about reaching $50 overrides status rules. Twitch explicitly says a non-Affiliate, non-Partner cannot receive a payout merely because the balance has reached the usual threshold.

How to activate the features
- Log in to Twitch and open the Creator Dashboard.
- Select Monetization.
- Look for the monetization onboarding prompt and the tools available to your account.
- Complete the required onboarding, including the Monetized Streamer Agreement, tax interviews, payout registration and payout-method selection where requested.
- Enable two-factor authentication if Twitch prompts you, and keep it enabled if you plan to apply for Affiliate.
- Return to the Monetization dashboard and confirm which subscriptions, Bits, emotes, badges and Channel Points controls are active.
The route above reflects Twitch’s documented flow, but labels can vary by country, language, account status and later dashboard changes. Creators aged 13 to 17 need parent or guardian involvement for the Monetized Streamer Agreement. Tax and legal-identity information may include additional forms outside the United States.
Twitch says monetization features may be enabled on a maximum of five accounts. Partner accounts do not count toward that limit, and Twitch may prioritize accounts by activity if the limit is exceeded.
If the Monetization tools are missing
- The global rollout or a regional rollout may not yet have reached the account.
- Onboarding, tax information, payout registration or security requirements may be incomplete.
- The account may not meet Twitch’s eligibility or policy controls.
- The five-account monetization limit may already have been reached.
- Twitch may have changed or restricted the feature for that account.
Check the Creator Dashboard and Twitch Support for the account-specific reason rather than assuming the tools are guaranteed for every channel.
Affiliate still matters
Early access does not replace the Affiliate program. Twitch’s current Affiliate requirements are:
- At least 25 followers.
- At least four hours streamed.
- Streaming on four different days.
- An average of at least three concurrent viewers on four stream days during the relevant 30-day period.
The viewer figure means concurrent viewers, not total views. Twitch’s achievement data or invitation can take 24–48 hours to update. Completing the numbers makes you eligible for Twitch’s invitation and onboarding process; it is not itself a cash transfer. Details are in Twitch’s Affiliate FAQ and Achievements help page. Two-factor authentication is required for Affiliate onboarding (joining the Affiliate Program).

Payout thresholds, timing and taxes
For Affiliates, Twitch’s FAQ says the usual minimum payout threshold is $50 for most payout methods. Wire transfers use a $100 threshold. Twitch generally initiates eligible payouts 15 days after the end of the month in which revenue was earned, subject to processing and eligibility.

Available methods vary by location and can include ACH or direct deposit, local bank or eCheck, PayPal, check and wire transfer. Twitch requires tax interviews and legal identity information during monetization onboarding. Taxes, payment-processing costs, bank fees, currency conversion and other deductions can reduce the amount you receive.
Subscription revenue share
Twitch states that the standard Affiliate subscription split is 50/50, subject to those deductions. Eligible creators may qualify for the Plus Program: Twitch’s FAQ says Affiliates who earn at least 100 Plus Points for three consecutive months may qualify for a 60/40 net-revenue share on paid recurring and gifted subscriptions. These Affiliate terms do not establish a separate, definitive revenue-share table for every pre-Affiliate transaction.

Ads are a separate dashboard and program question. A creator should check the Monetization section and current Twitch documentation for the account’s region and status. The rollout does not establish that every new channel will receive ad revenue, nor that every non-Affiliate channel will have an ad-free experience.
Is pursuing Affiliate still worthwhile?
For most creators who want cash rather than Twitch-only spending power, yes. Turning on the pre-Affiliate tools lets viewers support you and lets you build a community while you work toward the four requirements. Affiliate status is still the gateway Twitch identifies for normal payouts and the established Affiliate revenue program.
- Benefit: Support can begin before 25 followers or three average concurrent viewers.
- Benefit: Subscriber-focused identity and community tools are available earlier.
- Limitation: Pre-Affiliate balances cannot be withdrawn as ordinary cash.
- Limitation: Onboarding still involves tax and payout information.
- Limitation: Tool availability can be fragmented; one account may see subscriptions while lacking ads or another feature.
A sensible plan is to activate every eligible tool, explain to supporters that pre-Affiliate balances are not cash payouts, and continue toward Affiliate if withdrawing earnings matters to you.
What this change does not cover
Twitch’s policy concerns Twitch-native tools. Third-party tipping pages, sponsorships, affiliate links, merchandise and Patreon are separate income routes with their own tax, disclosure and platform-policy obligations. Buying overlays, bots, microphones or streaming software cannot bypass Twitch’s Affiliate payout rules.

The Bottom Line
Twitch’s 2026 rollout removes the old waiting period for several viewer-support and community features, not for cash withdrawals. Eligible new streamers can use subscriptions, Bits, emotes, badges and Channel Points, while Affiliate or Partner status remains necessary to receive a normal Twitch payout.
