Yes, the $749 MacBook Air deal was genuine—but it was an Amazon Black Friday Week promotion from November 2025, not a price that can be verified as live in August 2026. The offer covered the 13-inch 2025 MacBook Air with Apple’s M4 chip, 16GB unified memory and a 256GB SSD. Before buying an older M4 model today, check the price at checkout and compare it with newer-generation Air models.
What the $749 deal actually was
AppleInsider reported the promotion on November 20, 2025, and 9to5Mac covered the same Black Friday Week event. The advertised price was $749, compared with a reported $999 list price—a $250, approximately 25% reduction. Tom’s Hardware had reported a closely related $749.99 price on November 6 as an earlier all-time low.
The underlying Amazon listing is the 2025 13-inch MacBook Air with M4. The available evidence does not establish a current August 2026 price, so treat $749 as a historical benchmark rather than a live alert.

Not every M4 MacBook Air cost $749
The $749 figure applied to the entry-level 13-inch configuration. AppleInsider’s November 2025 deal list showed these prices:
| Configuration | Reported Black Friday price |
|---|---|
| 13-inch M4, 16GB/256GB | $749 |
| 13-inch M4, 16GB/512GB | $949 |
| 13-inch M4, 24GB/512GB | $1,149 |
| 15-inch M4, 16GB/256GB | $949 |
| 15-inch M4, 16GB/512GB | $1,149 |
| 15-inch M4, 24GB/512GB | $1,349 |
| 15-inch M3, 24GB/512GB | $1,099 |
9to5Mac showed the base model at $799 in one portion of its live coverage before later reporting $749. That illustrates how event pricing, colors and inventory could change during the sale.
The biggest compromise is 256GB storage
For browser work, documents, school assignments, video calls, streaming and light photo editing, 256GB can be workable—especially if files live in cloud storage or on an external drive.

It becomes restrictive when the Mac holds large photo or video libraries, music projects, games, developer toolchains, virtual machines or several years of offline files. The internal SSD is not a normal post-purchase upgrade. If you expect to keep the laptop for years or prefer local files, compare the 512GB model before choosing the headline price.

Is 16GB memory enough?
For most students, office users, writers and remote workers, 16GB is a sensible baseline for modern multitasking. It can accommodate office apps, many browser tabs, video conferencing and light creative work more comfortably than older 8GB Air configurations.
Consider 24GB for sustained professional media work, large software builds, multiple virtual machines or similarly memory-intensive workloads. Unified memory is also not user-upgradable, so choose the capacity at purchase.

Why the M4 Air was compelling
- Fanless operation keeps everyday work silent.
- The M4 provides strong general-purpose performance in a thin, portable design.
- The 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display and 12MP Center Stage camera suit study and video calls.
- MagSafe charging leaves both Thunderbolt ports available while charging.
- Touch ID and Apple-device continuity are useful for buyers already using an iPhone.
- Amazon listed up to 18 hours of battery life, subject to workload and configuration.
Trade-offs to understand
- The base deal has only 256GB of internal storage.
- There is no built-in HDMI, USB-A or SD-card reader; a hub may be needed.
- The fanless design is not intended to match actively cooled MacBook Pro performance during long sustained workloads.
- The display is not the higher-contrast Liquid Retina XDR panel found on MacBook Pro models.
- Memory and storage cannot be expanded as ordinary user upgrades.
- macOS may not support Windows-only applications or every game.
- A hub, external SSD or monitor can raise the real cost beyond the laptop price.
Who should buy an M4 Air at $749?
- Students, writers, researchers and office users.
- Remote or hybrid workers who value quiet operation.
- Travelers who want a light 13-inch laptop.
- iPhone owners who want Apple ecosystem integration.
- People replacing an Intel Mac or an older entry-level notebook.
Who should skip the headline model?
- Anyone who needs more than 256GB locally.
- Frequent high-resolution video editors, 3D users or engineering professionals.
- Buyers who need many built-in ports.
- People who require Windows-only software.
- Anyone who needs a larger screen but cannot use an external monitor.
- Shoppers who can get a newer-generation Air for only a modest premium.
- Those seeking HDR-focused or ProMotion display features.
How to verify an Amazon listing before paying
- Open the product page and select the 13-inch, M4, 16GB memory and 256GB storage configuration.
- Confirm the condition is New, then check the seller and whether Amazon or the seller fulfills the order.
- Check the selected color; a $749 result may apply only to one color or a particular stock position.
- Review the final cart and checkout total, including sales tax, because the price can change from a cached deal page.
- Read the applicable return and replacement terms. The retrieved listing showed a 15-day refund/replacement statement, but eligibility can vary by seller and product.
Buy now or wait in 2026?
Buy when all of these are true
- The exact new 16GB/256GB model is currently verified at or below $749.
- You are comfortable using cloud or external storage.
- The seller, fulfillment and warranty terms are acceptable.
- Comparable newer-generation Air models cost materially more.
Wait or spend more when
- The current price is substantially above the historical $749 benchmark.
- A newer Air is only slightly more expensive.
- You need 512GB, 24GB memory, a 15-inch screen or sustained professional performance.
- The listing is renewed, used or sold by an unfamiliar third party.
For comparison, the historically discounted 13-inch 16GB/512GB model was $949, while the 15-inch 16GB/256GB model was also $949. Check Apple’s current lineup and pricing at Apple’s MacBook Air page before treating an older M4 clearance price as the best value.
Optional costs that can change the decision
A USB-C hub may be necessary for HDMI, USB-A or SD cards; Apple lists accessories at its Mac accessories store. An external SSD can add capacity more cheaply than a larger internal configuration, but it is less convenient. AppleCare+ terms and pricing should be checked at Apple’s Mac support page; a historical November 2025 price sheet listed $179 for a 13-inch M4 Air plan, which is not a verified August 2026 price.

Bottom line: $749 was an excellent, genuine Black Friday 2025 price for the 13-inch M4 Air with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage. In 2026, buy only after confirming that exact configuration, condition, seller and checkout price—and compare newer models before assuming the old headline deal is still the bargain.
