The public offer requires a new line on myPlan and uses promotional bill credits—apparently over 36 months—to offset the device payments. You still pay for wireless service, taxes and fees, and any applicable activation charge or down payment.
That makes this primarily a switching or legitimate-new-line offer. It should not be treated as a guaranteed free upgrade for an existing Verizon line. Check the exact terms shown for your account before ordering.
What Verizon is actually offering
Verizon’s smartphone deals page describes the iPhone 17e as “on us,” says no trade-in is needed, and ties the offer to “a new line on myPlan.” Verizon’s broader deals page provides the same promotional context.
| Offer element | What the public wording establishes |
|---|---|
| Phone | Apple iPhone 17e |
| Trade-in | Not required |
| Line | A new smartphone line is required |
| Plan | Verizon myPlan; Verizon says the deal can work even on its lowest-priced plans, subject to checkout eligibility |
| Payment method | Device-payment agreement with promotional monthly credits |
| Expected credit period | Approximately 36 months; confirm the exact term in your order summary |
“No trade-in” means you keep your old phone. It does not remove the new-line requirement, make Verizon service free, or guarantee that an existing line qualifies.

How the “free” phone math works
Verizon normally finances the phone through a device-payment agreement. A promotional credit then appears on the bill each month. If the credit equals the monthly device installment for the full term, the net device payment can be $0.
Your total cost is still more than the device line item:
- Monthly service for the new line.
- Sales tax and government fees.
- Any activation fee, shipping charge or required down payment.
- Accessories, protection plans and other add-ons.
Verizon’s device-offer language says promotional credits can stop when eligibility requirements are no longer met, and its product flows state that taxes and fees may apply. A Verizon product page has shown a $40 activation fee in one flow while also showing that eligible new-line transactions may receive a waiver. Treat the activation result in your own cart—not a general promise—as controlling.
Who can use the promotion?
Switchers from another carrier
Someone porting a number to Verizon and opening an eligible new line is the clearest fit. Follow Verizon’s porting instructions and do not close the old account until the number transfer is complete.
Existing Verizon customers adding a line
An existing account may qualify when it adds a genuine new smartphone line. This can make sense for a family member or another person who actually needs service.
Rank #2
Existing customers seeking an ordinary upgrade
The public wording does not establish that the iPhone 17e promotion applies to an already active line. Verizon separates new-line promotions from upgrade offers; upgrade-specific deals may appear in My Verizon when a particular line is eligible. Select the offer displayed for that line rather than assuming the public “on us” banner applies.
Which plans qualify?
Verizon uses the term myPlan and says the iPhone 17e deal is available even on its lowest-priced plans. That suggests you may not need the most expensive Unlimited Ultimate tier, but it does not prove that every account or every plan qualifies.
During checkout, verify the exact plan name and price. Verizon’s current plan families include Unlimited Welcome, Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Ultimate, while some customers remain on legacy plans or newer Simplicity arrangements. A plan change can affect an existing device promotion; Verizon’s support guidance warns that an incompatible change may cancel promotional discounts. Do not switch plans until you understand the effect on the phone credits.

What happens during the 36-month credit period?
Use 36 months as the expected structure, not as a substitute for reading the specific offer terms. The credits are conditional on keeping the qualifying line and plan.
- Cancel the line: Future credits normally stop, leaving any unpaid device balance due under the agreement.
- Change to an ineligible plan: Future credits may end.
- Pay off the phone early: Do not assume remaining credits accelerate; check the iPhone 17e terms shown at checkout.
- Upgrade again: You may need to resolve the remaining device balance, and an upgrade can affect future credits.
- First bill differs: Credits can take one or more billing cycles to appear. Compare each bill with your written order confirmation before escalating.

What you may owe upfront
Before submitting the order, look for these separate charges:

- A credit-qualification down payment, if required.
- The device installment before promotional credits.

- Shipping, accessories and protection products.
- Prorated service and the first month’s plan charge.
“$0 device payment after credits” is not the same as “nothing due today” or “free Verizon service.”
How to verify the offer in checkout
- Choose the iPhone 17e on Verizon’s official deal or smartphone page.
- Select new line, not upgrade, unless My Verizon displays a separate upgrade promotion for your specific line.
- Record the plan name and confirm it is an eligible myPlan option.
- Check the phone’s storage and configuration, then review the device-payment term.
- Confirm the monthly installment before credits, the monthly promotional credit and the net amount after credits.
- Confirm the number of credit months and the rules for cancellation, plan changes, payoff and future upgrades.
- Review taxes, any down payment, activation-fee treatment, shipping and first-month service charges.
- Read the device-lock and unlocking language that applies to your purchase.
- Save the final order summary and promotion terms.
Should you take the deal?
It can be a good fit when
- You were already planning to switch to Verizon.
- You genuinely need an additional line.
- You can remain with the qualifying service for the full credit period.
- You want to keep, sell or recycle your old phone because no trade-in is required.
It is usually a poor fit when
- You would add a line solely to obtain a handset.
- You may leave Verizon before the credits finish.
- You need an unlocked phone immediately or maximum carrier flexibility.
- You are assuming an existing line qualifies without checking My Verizon.
- You are comparing only phone prices and ignoring 36 months of service charges.
Compare the total cost with buying from Apple
Apple sells the iPhone 17e directly, including Verizon-configured purchase options, through its official iPhone 17e store page. Confirm the current storage, color, price and financing terms there; those details can change.
Use this comparison over the same 36-month horizon:
- Verizon: eligible plan charges + taxes and fees + activation and other charges + accessories − promotional credits.
- Apple or another direct purchase: phone purchase price + the wireless plan you choose + taxes and fees.
The Verizon offer is financially compelling when you would pay for that Verizon line anyway. If the line is artificial, its service cost can exceed the value of the phone.
Common ways the promotion goes wrong
- Choosing “upgrade” instead of “new line,” causing the offer to disappear or change.
- Changing plans after ordering and losing eligibility.
- Assuming a missing first-cycle credit means the promotion failed before allowing for billing timing.
- Closing a previous carrier account before a port completes.
- Paying off the device while expecting all future credits immediately.
- Relying on a verbal promise that conflicts with the written checkout summary.
- Finding that the offer is unavailable for a particular account, location, sales channel, credit profile or inventory position.
Verizon can change or withdraw promotions without a guaranteed public end date. The written terms attached to your order are the evidence to keep.
