Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clockify is the strongest candidate for the best free feature set, with a timer, timesheets, automatic tracking, calendar, desktop and mobile apps, reports, integrations, idle detection and project exports listed on its pricing page. However, Clockify currently shows conflicting free-user limits, so verify the account limit before committing. Its pricing page simultaneously references up to five users, unlimited users and inviting four additional people.
For a freelancer who values a cleaner workflow, choose Toggl Track. TimeCamp is compelling for unlimited-user and automatic-tracking needs, Jibble is better for attendance and field teams, and Harvest is the specialist choice when invoicing matters most. “Best” depends on whether you need billable project hours, employee attendance, automatic activity data or project-management integration.

What “free” really means
A free timer is not automatically a free timesheet system. Distinguish among:

- ✔This daily plan pad features detailed hourly schedule timelines from 12 AM to 11 PM, perfectly segment your morning, afternoon and evening hours. Track meetings, appointments and fixed tasks hour by hour to eliminate procrastination and boost your daily time management efficiency.
- ✔ 1.Put an end to the time black hole: Every hour of activity is recorded, so you always know where your time goes and bid farewell to "being busy yet achieving nothing". 2.Cure procrastination: Visual time grids have an inherent sense of supervision; blank time slots serve as a direct reminder, with more binding power than phone alerts. 3.Gain instant a sense of accomplishment: Check off completed tasks with a simple tick. A filled time axis page by page delivers physical feedback that digital tools cannot match, making it easier to keep going the more you use it.
- ✔ 1.Students & Exam Takers: Plan class, review and practice time; allocate study hours for each subject precisely for targeted exam preparation. 2.Professionals: Schedule meetings, work projects and commute time; prioritize tasks clearly and bid farewell to chaotic overtime. 3.Freelancers & Stay-at-Home Parents: Clearly divide work/childcare/personal time to avoid blurring the boundaries between life and work. 4.Self-Discipline Enthusiasts: Check in on fitness, reading and learning; develop regular routines with hourly scales to build good habits effortlessly.
- Free forever: an ongoing no-cost tier, usually with feature or usage limits.
- Free trial: temporary access to paid features; it should not be counted as a free plan.
- Limited seats: a solo plan or a fixed number of active users.
- Limited history or exports: reports may cover only a date range or export only to one format.
- Free tracking, paid administration: approvals, locked timesheets, budgets, payroll, invoicing, GPS, screenshots and audit logs may require an upgrade.
- Integration-gated features: a mobile app or project-management integration may exist but be restricted by plan.
Clockify’s page, for example, lists a one-month free report range and PDF-only export, while its user-limit language conflicts. My Hours states that its free plan allows five active users; paid Basic adds capabilities such as detailed reports and billable-rate features.
Choose the right category before choosing an app
Manual time trackers
Toggl Track, Clockify, My Hours, TrackingTime and TMetric center on start/stop timers, manual entries, projects, tasks, tags and basic reporting. They fit freelancers and knowledge workers who need accurate billable records without surveillance.
Timesheet and billing tools
Harvest, Clockify, TimeCamp, My Hours and Paymo add billable rates, budgets, estimates, expenses, invoices or client reporting. The key question is whether those controls are included in the free tier.
Attendance and workforce tools
Jibble, Hubstaff, Time Doctor, Apploye and DeskTime address clock-in/out, breaks, scheduling, overtime, leave, GPS, kiosks, payroll exports or monitoring. They are not direct substitutes for a freelancer timer.

Automatic productivity trackers
RescueTime, TimeCamp, DeskTime and Timely record app and website activity in the background. Automatic data can miss phone calls, meetings, reading, thinking and offline work, so it is not inherently more accurate.

Detailed recommendations
1. Clockify: best feature breadth, pending a user-limit check
The free feature list includes unlimited tracking, timer and timesheet views, automatic tracking, calendar, iOS/Android and desktop apps, Pomodoro, idle detection and reminders, integrations, team activity, reports, project status and project export. The free export is listed as PDF and the report range as one month. Paid plans shown on the pricing page are Basic $3.99, Standard $5.49, Pro $7.99 and Enterprise $11.99 per seat/month when billed annually; monthly prices are higher and taxes may apply. Because the same page presents “up to five users,” “unlimited users” and an allowance to invite four additional people, confirm the current limit before selecting Clockify for a team. See Clockify’s pricing and signup.
2. Toggl Track: best for freelancers and low-friction tracking
Toggl Track advertises a free-forever plan with web, desktop and mobile tracking, browser extensions connecting to more than 100 tools, Google and Outlook Calendar integrations and productivity reports. The retrieved pricing information calls the free user allowance “limited” without stating a dependable number. Starter is shown at $9 per user/month; Premium is shown at $14 for the first annual-billing year, renewing at $18. It is a poor fit when you need GPS, kiosk attendance, payroll or screenshots. Check the current plan before using signup.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →3. TimeCamp: strong for automatic tracking and larger teams
TimeCamp advertises free-forever tracking with unlimited users and projects in its plan overview. Automatic activity tracking is its defining advantage. Annual-billing prices shown are $3.99, $6.99 and $9.99 per user/month for successive paid tiers; monthly prices are $5.49, $9.99 and $13.99. Confirm which analytics, integrations, reports and billing controls remain free. See its pricing and signup.
4. Jibble: best for attendance and field workers
Jibble is positioned around mobile clock-in/out, attendance and employee or field tracking. Prioritize it when breaks, overtime, location verification, offline mobile use, kiosk operation or payroll workflows matter more than elegant client billing. Verify current user, GPS and export limits on Jibble’s pricing page; its signup is the practical test of the plan available in your region.

5. Harvest: best when invoicing is the reason you are tracking time
Harvest’s differentiator is turning billable hours, expenses, budgets and client records into invoices and agency reports. Its free plan is generally tighter than the broad free tiers above. Verify current user, project, client and invoice limits at Harvest pricing before starting at signup.
6. My Hours: simple project and client records
My Hours states that its free plan is limited to five active users. Its pricing page shows unlimited projects and clients in the product comparison, while paid Basic is $4 per user/month annually or $5 monthly and Pro is $8 annually or $9 monthly. Confirm which project, rate and report features are actually free; do not transfer paid Basic features into the free column. View pricing or start here.

7. TrackingTime: straightforward team tracking
TrackingTime’s own comparison page presents a free plan with unlimited users and paid tiers beginning at $3.75 and reaching $10. Because those are vendor-published comparison signals, confirm projects, reports, exports and integrations on its pricing page before using signup.
8. Hubstaff: workforce visibility, not a minimalist timer
Hubstaff is aimed at remote-work visibility with screenshots, GPS, schedules and payroll-oriented workflows. That can help an employer who has disclosed monitoring policies, but it is excessive for ordinary billable timesheets and may create privacy, security and legal obligations. Check current limits at Hubstaff pricing.
9. Everhour: best when your project tool is the center of work
Everhour embeds time tracking in supported project-management products. Confirm supported integrations, free access and whether a connected tool is required at Everhour pricing.

10. RescueTime: personal focus analytics
RescueTime is designed for automatic app and website activity analysis, distraction reporting and focus improvement rather than client invoices, payroll or attendance. It is useful for an individual measuring computer habits, not for proving every hour worked.
11. Paymo: consolidated project management
Paymo combines tasks, schedules, time, budgets and invoicing. It suits a business replacing several systems, but verify whether its current free tier supports your team size at Paymo pricing.
12–15. TMetric, DeskTime, Apploye and Time Doctor
TMetric is a lightweight project-reporting option. DeskTime, Apploye and Time Doctor focus more on automatic activity, attendance, screenshots or workforce reporting. Verify free availability and monitoring controls directly; these products require a clear employee notice and internal policy.
16. Timely: a paid automatic-tracking alternative
Current comparison data lists Timely without a free plan. Its memory-based background tracking can be relevant if you are willing to pay for automatic capture, but it is not a free-plan winner. The comparison page provides the cited context.

Small agencies
Compare Clockify, Harvest, TimeCamp, Toggl Track, Everhour and Paymo on client hierarchy, rates, budgets, approvals, exports and invoice workflow—not timer availability alone.
Remote employee teams
Prioritize Jibble, Clockify, TimeCamp, Hubstaff or Apploye for attendance, breaks, overtime, approvals, scheduling and payroll exports. Prefer transparent attendance controls over covert productivity surveillance.
Field workers
Jibble is the leading category fit when mobile reliability, offline work, clock-in/out, GPS or geofencing and payroll compatibility are essential. Hubstaff is the deeper-monitoring alternative.
Automatic tracking
Shortlist RescueTime, TimeCamp, DeskTime and Timely. Provide a way to correct classifications and explain what the system cannot observe.

Checks to perform before signing up
- Confirm whether the plan is free forever, a trial or an educational/nonprofit offer.
- Check whether “unlimited users” means invited accounts, active trackers, kiosk users or only a specific feature.
- Create a test project and verify projects, clients, tasks, tags, billable rates and manual edits.
- Test a mobile entry, desktop timer, offline behavior and browser extension if those matter to your team.
- Run a report across the date range you need and export it; note format, history and API restrictions.
- Check approvals, locked timesheets, reminders, budgets, invoices, payroll and integrations individually.
- Review screenshots, GPS, app/website capture, retention and worker visibility before enabling monitoring.
- Export sample data so you know you can leave with usable records.
- Compare monthly and annual prices, taxes, currency and the vendor’s definition of a billable seat.
When paying is justified
Upgrade when the free tier blocks a business-critical control: longer history, additional users, approvals, locked edits, budgets, billable rates, invoices, payroll, GPS, screenshots, advanced reports, API access or integrations. A paid plan is justified when it removes manual reconciliation or billing errors; it is not justified merely because a product advertises more features you will never use.
Privacy and accuracy warning
App activity, screenshots, GPS, webcam images and keyboard or mouse signals can create employee-relations, data-protection and security obligations. Obtain informed consent where required, document retention and access rules, and avoid treating computer activity as a complete measure of work. For many teams, a transparent timesheet with clear expectations is both more proportionate and more accurate for non-screen work.
How the rankings were made
This is a feature-breadth and workflow-fit judgment based on current vendor plan pages and comparison coverage, not an independent test of uptime, support, mobile reliability or tracking accuracy. Vendor comparison articles from Clockify, Toggl, Jibble, TimeCamp and TrackingTime are useful for finding features but are not neutral testing. Recheck prices, user caps and feature gates immediately before purchase because the published Clockify limits already conflict.
