Amazon’s second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max (16GB) was listed at $33, down from a stated $60 price. Engadget described that as a new—or reported all-time—low at the time. The promotion may have ended, and any current listing can show a different price, seller, or model.
What the $33 deal actually covered
| Detail | Reported offer |
|---|---|
| Device | Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max, second generation (2023) |
| Storage | 16GB internal storage |
| U.S. Black Friday price | $33 |
| Stated regular/original price | $60 |
| Advertised discount | 45% |
| Date covered | November 27, 2024 |
| Retailer | Amazon listing linked by Engadget’s deal report |
The $33 figure was a U.S. deal price, so it should not be assumed to apply in other countries. The $60 comparison was the stated list or regular price, not proof that the device continuously sold for $60. Engadget’s “all-time low” wording describes the price observed in that promotion; it is not an independently audited history of every retailer, coupon, bundle, refurbished unit, or region.
The same coverage mentioned a separate Fire TV Cube promotion at $100 versus a stated $140. That was a different, box-style product—not part of the $33 Fire TV Stick offer.

Why the Max model was attractive at $33
The picture-quality headline is less distinctive than the name suggests: Amazon’s standard second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K also targets 4K HDR streaming. The Max’s practical advantages were its larger storage, higher-end wireless standard, and positioning above entry-level Fire TV sticks.

| Feature | Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd gen.) | Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd gen.) |
|---|---|---|
| Internal storage | 16GB | 8GB |
| Wireless | Wi-Fi 6E | Wi-Fi 6 |
| Core purpose | 4K streaming, larger app capacity and higher-end connectivity | 4K streaming at a lower tier |
Sixteen gigabytes can be useful if you install many streaming apps or experiment with games. Wi-Fi 6E can help only when the home network has a compatible 6GHz-capable router and suitable local conditions; it does not automatically make every internet connection faster. The compact stick design also avoids the footprint of a set-top box.
Important limitations before buying
Ethernet is not built in
Amazon specifies that wired networking requires an external Ethernet adapter. If your television or network setup needs a direct cable connection, include the adapter and its cost in your decision.

Alexa is remote-based, not the same as a Fire TV Cube
The enhanced remote provides near-field Alexa voice control. The stick is not equivalent to a hands-free Fire TV Cube with built-in far-field microphones. Amazon notes that far-field control can also work through a linked Echo device, but that requires separate Echo hardware.
4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, and Atmos all have prerequisites
The stick can output these formats, but the television, HDMI path, receiver or soundbar, streaming app, subscription tier, and specific title must support them. A 4K-capable stick cannot upgrade a 1080p television or make non-HDR content HDR.

Fire TV software is part of the trade-off
Buyers who dislike Amazon’s interface, advertising, account integration, or ecosystem may prefer another platform even when the hardware value is strong. The device also offers limited local expansion compared with a conventional media box.
Retro gaming requires setup
Engadget discussed using the 4K Max for older PlayStation, Game Boy, Genesis, and arcade titles. That is an enthusiast use case, not a guaranteed console replacement: emulators, controller pairing, configuration, legal game files, and individual game compatibility all vary.

How it compares with other Fire TV choices
Standard Fire TV Stick 4K
Choose the standard model when it is substantially cheaper and you need straightforward 4K streaming rather than 16GB of storage or Wi-Fi 6E. The Max’s strongest differences are capacity and connectivity, not a fundamentally different resolution target.
Fire TV Cube
The third-generation Fire TV Cube is a larger device aimed at buyers who want hands-free Alexa, a more powerful processor, and Ethernet capability without a stick adapter. Amazon describes it as having an octa-core processor and being twice as powerful as the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. It costs more and occupies more space. The $100 Black Friday figure in the 2024 coverage was a separate historical promotion.
Newer Fire TV models
Amazon’s device documentation now lists the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and Fire TV Stick 4K Select as 2025 models. That makes the 4K Max an older design by 2026, even though its specifications remain relevant for 4K streaming. Do not assume a newer model is faster, cheaper, or better without a current price and independent comparison. If a newer stick is close in price, its newer release date and likely support horizon may matter more than the Max’s extra storage.
Who should consider the 4K Max?
- Owners of sluggish older smart TVs who want an inexpensive 4K streamer.
- Households already using Alexa or Prime Video.
- People installing many apps and valuing 16GB over 8GB.
- Users with a compatible Wi-Fi 6E router or congested wireless environment.
- Enthusiasts willing to configure retro-gaming software.
Who should skip it?
- Anyone with only a 1080p television.
- People who require built-in Ethernet or additional physical ports.
- Buyers seeking built-in, hands-free Alexa rather than remote control.
- Anyone unwilling to use Amazon’s interface or ecosystem.
- Shoppers in 2026 who can buy a newer Fire TV model for roughly the same price.
- People expecting Wi-Fi 6E benefits without compatible 6GHz networking.
How to evaluate the deal today
- Confirm the listing says Fire TV Stick 4K Max, second generation, 16GB; similar names include the standard 4K, 4K Plus, and 4K Select.
- Check the live seller, condition, shipping, and return terms. The 2024 $33 promotion is not evidence of a current price.
- Compare the current price with newer Amazon models and, if needed, the adapter cost for Ethernet.
- Match the specifications to your television, sound system, router, and Alexa needs.
The historical Amazon product page associated with the deal was this listing; its present price and availability are not established by the 2024 report.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe Bottom Line
The $33 Fire TV Stick 4K Max was a compelling historical November 2024 price for a 16GB 4K streamer, and Engadget reported it as a record low at the time. In 2026, buy it only if the older Max is meaningfully cheaper than newer Fire TV models and its storage, Wi-Fi 6E, and compact design outweigh the lack of built-in Ethernet and hands-free Alexa.
