Granola announced a $43 million Series B led by NFDG on May 14, 2025, alongside a move into shared meeting notes, transcripts, folders and team-level AI questions. TechCrunch reported a $250 million private-company valuation and total funding of $67 million after the round. Those figures are historical: later TechCrunch coverage lists a separate $125 million financing at a $1.5 billion valuation in March 2026.

The announcement combined financing with a product expansion. Granola raised a reported $43 million Series B and introduced collaboration tools intended to turn individually created meeting notes into shared team knowledge.
TechCrunch’s report identified NFDG, the venture firm associated with Nat Friedman and Daniel Gross, as the lead investor. Existing investors Lightspeed and Spark also participated. Reported angel participants included Guillermo Rauch of Vercel, Amjad Masad of Replit, Tobias Lütke of Shopify and Karri Saarinen of Linear.

A valuation is not the same as a public-market capitalization or cash held by the company. It is the price implied by a private financing transaction and can depend on the security sold and deal terms that were not disclosed in the announcement coverage.

Why investors were paying attention
Granola had launched roughly a year before the announcement and said adoption was spreading largely by word of mouth, particularly among founders and venture capitalists. Co-founder Chris Pedregal told TechCrunch that the user base was growing 10% every week. That is a company-reported growth claim; no absolute user count, retention rate, revenue figure or paid-conversion data was disclosed.
The product’s early pitch was different from a meeting bot that automatically appears in a Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams participant list. Users opened Granola and took or shaped notes themselves. AI then used those notes and the meeting transcript to improve structure, fill in context and produce a more useful record. Notes remained editable during or after the meeting.

That workflow appealed to people who wanted an assistant without handing the entire interaction to an automated participant. Forbes reported the company’s position that Granola does not record audio or video without permission; that is a company statement, not an independent technical audit.

Custom folders could organize material around workflows such as sales calls, customer feedback and hiring.
Folder-level questions
Granola’s AI could answer questions across the material in a selected folder. Earlier in May, the company had added questions across a user’s own recorded meetings; folders extended that idea to a defined team or workflow context.

Questions from people without accounts
Shared notes could be sent to people who did not use Granola, and those recipients could ask the AI questions about the shared material.
The announcement established collaborative sharing and focused AI context. It did not, by itself, establish a complete enterprise knowledge platform with documented permissions, retention policies, legal holds, audit logs, single sign-on or compliance certifications.

From personal memory to team knowledge
The product progression is straightforward: an individual meeting note became a personal cross-meeting memory, then a shared folder and finally a team-level searchable context. That could make accumulated meeting information more useful and encourage more people in an account to use the product.
Lightspeed investor Mike Mignano described the shared context as potentially creating long-term network effects. That is an investor thesis and reasonable strategic inference, not evidence that network effects had already been demonstrated. Collaboration also creates tension: a candid personal notebook and a broadly visible team repository have different expectations about privacy, permissions and editing.

By 2025, these products were converging on transcription, summaries, search, shared workspaces and AI questions. The meaningful comparison was capture method and control: Granola emphasized a human notepad workflow, while competitors generally foregrounded automated capture, broader collaboration, integrations or analytics.
What the announcement did—and did not—prove
- It did show investor support. It did not prove profitability, retention, accuracy or customer return on investment.
- It did broaden the addressable workflow. Shared folders and external sharing moved Granola toward team software, but did not establish a full enterprise suite.
- It did not make $250 million a current valuation. That number belongs to the 2025 Series B.
Current status and pricing context
Update checked August 18, 2026: TechCrunch’s Granola coverage lists a separate March 2026 financing of $125 million at a $1.5 billion valuation. Treat that as a later reported milestone, not part of the May 2025 announcement, and verify it against the full article or a company announcement before using it as definitive current funding data.

Who should consider Granola?
Potentially good fit
- Individuals who want to steer their own notes while AI supplies structure and context.
- Teams that need shared folders for sales, customer research or hiring.
- Sensitive or relationship-driven meetings where a visible bot could change participant behavior.
- Organizations that prefer selected, folder-level questions over an undifferentiated search across every transcript.
Potentially poor fit
- Teams that require an automated agent to join and capture every meeting without a human starting a note.
- Workflows centered on live transcription, real-time collaborative editing, CRM automation, sentiment or speaker analytics.
- Organizations requiring mature legal hold, detailed audit trails, extensive administrator controls or independently verified compliance that has not been confirmed.
- Users needing broad multilingual or specialized conversation-intelligence coverage not established by this announcement.
