Microsoft 365 E7 is now a real, generally available enterprise subscription—not just an announcement. Microsoft made the Frontier Suite available on May 1, 2026, and lists it at $99 per user per month with an annual commitment in the United States. The bundle combines Microsoft 365 E5, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Agent 365, Entra Suite, and advanced Defender, Intune, and Purview capabilities. Microsoft offers versions with and without Teams.
That price can be attractive for an enterprise that needs nearly all of those products. It is not automatically a bargain for a company running a small Copilot pilot or already buying overlapping identity and security tools.
What Microsoft 365 E7 includes
Microsoft calls E7 “The Frontier Suite,” a premium plan for organizations moving from individual AI assistants toward a workforce supported by many software agents. Microsoft positions the product around two connected requirements: intelligence (Copilot, models, agents and Work IQ) and trust (identity, security, compliance and governance).

What the $99 price actually means
Microsoft’s listed U.S. retail price is $99 per user per month with an annual commitment. Microsoft directs enterprise buyers to contact sales rather than treating this as a normal self-service checkout price. Enterprise agreements, seat volume, reseller terms, taxes, currency and negotiated discounts can change the final invoice.
The plan is therefore not a universal $99 monthly bill. An annual commitment also reduces the flexibility of assigning and removing seats compared with a purely monthly arrangement.

How the claimed savings are calculated
Microsoft says E7 costs less than buying its included capabilities separately. One frequently cited list-price comparison reported by WinBuzzer adds Microsoft 365 E5 at $60, Microsoft 365 Copilot at $30, Entra Suite at $12 and Agent 365 at $15 per user per month—a combined $117 versus E7 at $99. The calculation is based on list prices reported by that publication, not an independently verified customer invoice: WinBuzzer’s comparison.
The comparison matters only when a customer would actually purchase the same four components. A company that needs E5 and Copilot for a limited group, but does not need Entra Suite or centralized agent governance, may not realize that theoretical difference.

What Agent 365 adds
Agent 365 is intended to give IT, security and business teams a common way to observe, govern, manage and secure agents. Microsoft says the scope includes Microsoft-built and third-party agents, with identity, policy and security controls around their activity. Microsoft describes the product in its security announcement and lists it separately at $15 per user in its general-availability notice.
Agent 365 is a control plane, not an automatic safety guarantee. Administrators still need to inventory agents, review delegated permissions, restrict data access, set retention and approval rules, monitor activity and prepare incident-response procedures. Support for a particular third-party agent or integration should be checked before purchase.

How Copilot changes in E7
Microsoft’s Wave 3 announcement describes Copilot moving beyond question-and-answer assistance toward multi-step work across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Copilot Chat and other Microsoft 365 surfaces. Microsoft also announced broader model choice, including Claude and newer OpenAI models.
These announcements do not mean every E7 tenant receives every feature immediately. Rollout timing can depend on tenant settings, region, licensing, administrative controls and preview enrollment. Copilot Cowork, an agentic experience developed with Anthropic, was described as entering research preview rather than being a universally available E7 feature on launch day. Why Microsoft bundled Copilot, identity and security
Microsoft announced E7 on March 9, 2026, and made it generally available on May 1. The commercial strategy is to make broad AI deployment easier for customers already standardized on Microsoft 365, while pairing AI with governance products that enterprises need as agent use expands. Microsoft presents that combination as intelligence plus trust.
Bundling may reduce procurement friction and the need to assemble several products. It can also obscure which parts of the package create value for a particular workforce. Microsoft-reported adoption figures, such as claims about Fortune 500 usage, are not independent evidence that E7 will produce a return for your organization.
Who is most likely to benefit
Strong candidates
- Large organizations already standardized on Microsoft 365 E5.
- Enterprises planning Copilot for a broad population rather than a small specialist pilot.
- Companies expecting many internal or third-party agents.
- Regulated businesses needing centralized identity, security, compliance and audit controls.
- IT teams that prefer one Microsoft procurement and administration framework.
- Organizations with enough seats for bundle pricing and implementation costs to make sense.
Cases where E7 may be excessive
- Small and midsize businesses that do not require E5-level security and compliance.
- Companies assigning Copilot to only a small specialist group.
- Organizations with no near-term agent deployment.
- Customers that already receive equivalent identity, endpoint, security or governance capabilities elsewhere.
- Businesses that need Teams-free licensing but find the available configuration or terms unsuitable.
- Organizations that have not yet established basic Microsoft 365 data classification and access controls.
How to compare E7 with alternatives

A buyer’s calculation checklist
- Count users by need. Separate people who need E5 security, Copilot, Agent 365 and Teams instead of assigning E7 to everyone by default.
- Map overlapping entitlements. Identify Entra, Defender, Intune, Purview and other governance products already purchased.
- Model three scenarios. Compare E5 plus selected Copilot seats; E5 plus standalone Agent 365 and selected Copilot seats; and E7 for the relevant population.
- Price the commitment. Include annual-seat obligations, taxes, currency, reseller or partner margins and negotiated enterprise terms.
- Budget implementation. Include permission reviews, data classification, agent inventory, monitoring, training, change management and incident response.
- Validate regional requirements. Confirm data residency, retention, eDiscovery, audit and regulatory requirements for AI workloads.
- Test feature maturity. Separate generally available functions from previews such as Copilot Cowork before relying on them in production plans.
- Measure value. Define adoption, quality, time-saved, risk and business-outcome metrics before expanding seat counts.

Microsoft 365 E7 is a substantial bundle, not simply E5 with Copilot attached. At Microsoft’s listed U.S. price of $99 per user per month on an annual commitment, it can be compelling when the same users need Copilot, E5, identity controls and agent governance. For a limited Copilot pilot, an E5-plus-add-ons design may cost less and preserve more flexibility. The right decision is based on deployment scope and total ownership cost—not the headline price alone.
