Google’s lower-cost paid Gemini tier in Canada is Google AI Plus. The plan is listed at CA$6.99 per month and includes 400 GB of Google One storage, higher Gemini limits than the free tier and several Google AI features. That price reflects Google’s June 8, 2026 update; it was not a brand-new Canadian launch in August.
Google announced the broader AI Plus rollout on January 27, 2026, then reduced the U.S. price and doubled storage in June. Google’s Canadian Gemini page showed the updated Canadian pricing and features on August 18, 2026.
What changed, and when?
Canada previously received Google One AI Premium, which bundled Gemini Advanced with 2 TB of storage for CA$26.99 per month when announced in February 2024. Google now positions AI Plus as a cheaper entry point, alongside AI Pro and AI Ultra.
Google announced AI Plus availability in additional countries on January 27, 2026. On June 8, Google cut the U.S. AI Plus price from US$7.99 to US$4.99 and increased storage from 200 GB to 400 GB. Canadian reporting put the local price at CA$6.99 per month. The current Canadian plan listing is at Google’s Gemini subscription page.

So the accurate description is a lower-priced Canadian tier that was repriced and expanded, not an entirely new August launch.
Google AI Plus price and what it includes
Price checked August 18, 2026: CA$6.99 per month. Google’s checkout can differ because of taxes, promotions, annual versus monthly billing, app-store billing or account-specific offers, so treat the final payment screen as authoritative.

- 400 GB of storage shared across Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos.
- Gemini access with limits Google describes as twice as high as the free tier. This is a quota comparison, not unlimited use or a fixed promise of twice as many prompts in every model.
- Access to additional Gemini features, including video-generation access where available.
- 200 Google Flow credits. Credits are a quota, not unlimited video or creative generation.
- More access to Nano Banana in Google Search.
- More Audio Overviews and notebook capabilities in Gemini Notebook.
- Gemini integration in Gmail, Vids and other eligible Google apps.
- Google One family sharing for eligible membership benefits, subject to Google’s account and feature rules.
Google’s broader plan description also refers to higher model access, Deep Research, Notebook features and image, music and video tools. Product names, model availability, language support and limits can change, so availability on your account matters more than a permanent feature checklist.
What AI Plus does not promise
- It does not provide unlimited Gemini chats, image generation, video generation or Flow use.
- It does not include the 5 TB storage allocation of AI Pro.
- It does not provide Pro-level quotas simply because some Gemini features are available.
- YouTube Premium Lite is listed with Pro on Google’s Canadian comparison, not with Plus.
- Higher quotas do not guarantee faster replies, factual accuracy or a particular model’s permanent availability.
Google’s “2x higher usage” wording compares Plus with the free plan. Actual limits can vary by model, feature, demand, account status, age and language.

Prices and plan details in this table are those shown on Google’s Canadian Gemini page on August 18, 2026. The page lists YouTube Premium Lite with Pro, not Plus. Google AI Ultra was shown at CA$279.99 per month, although offers and account presentation may vary.
At the listed monthly prices, Plus works out to approximately CA$83.88 over 12 months before taxes. Pro works out to approximately CA$323.88. Those are simple annualized calculations, not Google’s separately quoted annual-plan prices.

Who should choose AI Plus?
It makes sense when
- You want more Gemini capacity than the free plan without paying Pro pricing.
- Your combined Gmail, Drive and Photos usage fits within 400 GB.
- You already rely on Google apps and value built-in AI tools.
- You want occasional creative-generation and Flow access rather than professional-scale quotas.
Skip it when
- You need 2 TB or more of storage.
- You regularly use Deep Research, Flow or other quota-limited tools at high volume.
- You want YouTube Premium benefits listed with Pro.
- You ask only occasional AI questions and the free tier meets your limits.
- You want a standalone chatbot rather than a Google storage-and-AI bundle.
For a standalone assistant, services such as ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity are separate alternatives. Their Canadian prices and promotions are not established here, and none replaces Google One storage.

Age requirements differ by feature. Google’s help page says users generally must be at least 18 for features such as Deep Research, Gemini in Gmail, Personal Intelligence, Flow and Flow Music, while Gemini and Gemini Notebook may have lower thresholds subject to local rules. Check the specific feature before assuming every entitlement applies to every family member.
Storage and family sharing
Google accounts include up to 15 GB at no charge. AI Plus raises the pooled allowance to 400 GB across Gmail, Drive and Photos. Google describes family sharing for Google One benefits and storage, but shared membership does not mean every family member receives identical AI access, prompts or feature eligibility.
Before moving from a larger plan, check your storage dashboard. If your account is already above 400 GB, a downgrade can affect Gmail, Drive and Photos functionality until you delete or move data or choose a larger plan. Google’s storage rules are explained at Google One Help.

Bottom line for Canadian subscribers
AI Plus is the practical low-cost paid Gemini option: CA$6.99 per month for 400 GB and higher, but still limited, AI access. Choose it if you want moderate Gemini use bundled with Google storage. Stay on free if your AI needs are occasional. Choose Pro if you need 5 TB, substantially higher quotas, 1,000 Flow credits or the YouTube benefit Google lists for that tier.
