Short answer: Go5G was a meaningful upgrade over some Magenta plans for heavy hotspot users, frequent phone upgraders and people who regularly use service in Canada, Mexico or overseas. It was not a better deal for every customer, especially those with tax-inclusive billing, free lines, large discounts or valuable device credits. As of August 18, 2026, Go5G is largely a legacy family: T-Mobile now markets Experience More, Experience Beyond and Better Value, and lists Go5G Plus as retired for new enrollment.
Do not switch because a plan name contains “5G.” Compare your complete current bill with an account-specific quote, including taxes, fees, discounts, device credits and the value of benefits you would actually use.
What Go5G changed when it launched
T-Mobile launched the Go5G family in April 2023 as a rate-plan change, not a new cellular network. Compatible Magenta customers continued using T-Mobile’s 5G network; the differences were plan allowances, promotions and included services.
Compared with the then-current Magenta family, launch-era Go5G plans generally offered more high-speed hotspot data, larger high-speed allowances in Canada and Mexico, and stronger eligibility for device promotions. Go5G Plus added a roughly two-year upgrade path and richer entertainment and travel benefits. Go5G Next later added annual-upgrade positioning, along with Netflix, Apple TV+, international data and in-flight Wi-Fi benefits described by T-Mobile at launch.

Historical details vary by the exact Magenta version. Magenta, Magenta MAX, Magenta Plus, 55+, Military, First Responder and business versions did not all have identical hotspot, roaming, tax or streaming terms. Check the exact plan name in the T-Life app or on your billing page before comparing.
T-Mobile’s historical Magenta documentation shows how those benefits differed, while its Go5G rate card records the launch-era allowances and pricing terms.
Magenta versus Go5G: the practical differences
| Category | Legacy Magenta | Historical Go5G | Historical Go5G Plus | Go5G Next |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Network access | 5G with a compatible device and coverage | 5G | 5G | 5G |
| Premium data | Depends on Magenta version | Unlimited under plan terms | Unlimited under plan terms | Unlimited under plan terms |
| High-speed hotspot | Historical documentation lists 5GB, then slower data | More than basic Magenta; exact allowance depends on rate card | 50GB, then slower data | 50GB, then slower data in the cited rate card |
| Canada and Mexico | Lower allowance on many legacy versions | 10GB high-speed in the cited rate card | 15GB high-speed | 15GB high-speed in the cited rate card |
| Other international destinations | Depends on edition | Limited | 5GB high-speed in 215+ destinations | 5GB high-speed in 215+ destinations in the cited rate card |
| Upgrade positioning | Standard promotions | Improved promotion eligibility | Approximately every two years, subject to conditions | Approximately every year, subject to conditions |
| Streaming | Depends on version | Plan-specific Netflix or trial benefits | Netflix and Apple TV+ benefits under stated terms | Netflix, Apple TV+ and other benefits under stated terms |
| Taxes and fees | Many legacy versions included them | Depends on version | Historical Go5G Plus was tax-inclusive | Check the account and rate card |
“Unlimited” does not necessarily mean unlimited high-speed service. After a high-speed allowance, hotspot or international data may continue at a reduced speed. Entertainment benefits can also mean a specific tier, such as Netflix Standard with ads, rather than a premium ad-free subscription.
Go5G Plus and Go5G Next were not free-phone guarantees
The upgrade language described eligibility, not an automatic free device. A qualifying offer can require T-Mobile financing, a specified payoff percentage, a device in acceptable condition, a trade-in and continued enrollment while monthly bill credits are issued.

Someone who keeps a phone for three to five years may save more on a cheaper plan and buy or finance the device separately.

2026 update: Experience plans are the current comparison
Go5G is no longer T-Mobile’s main advertised consumer-plan family. T-Mobile lists Go5G Plus as retired in July 2025, although existing customers may retain grandfathered Go5G variants or see internal migration options. A plan shown in your account is not necessarily open to new customers.
Current public prices below are T-Mobile’s listed monthly rates before applicable taxes, fees, discounts and device charges, checked August 18, 2026. Reconfirm them in your account before changing service.

Experience More includes a five-year guarantee for the covered monthly price of talk, text and 5G smartphone data. Experience Beyond has the same type of guarantee. Neither guarantee covers taxes, fees, surcharges, add-ons or necessarily the entire amount due. Additional lines cost $35 for lines 6–8 and $40 for lines 9–12 on Experience More; Beyond lists $50 for lines 6–8 and $55 for lines 9–12.
Better Value details and eligibility are explained in T-Mobile’s support disclosure. Some customers may not qualify based on account type, tenure or promotions.
Compare the full bill, not the headline rate
Use this worksheet before accepting a migration:
- Write down the new plan’s base price and the number of lines.
- Subtract only confirmed AutoPay or other discounts.
- Add taxes, government surcharges and T-Mobile recovery fees.
- Add device connection charges, which current disclosures list at up to $35 per line.
- Add watch, tablet, hotspot and other connected-device lines.
- Add charges for upgraded Netflix, Hulu or Apple TV+ tiers.
- Subtract the value of subscriptions you would otherwise pay for and genuinely use.
- Account for lost free-line, Insider, military, 55+, employer or other discounts.
- Include remaining device balances and any bill credits that could disappear.
Current Experience disclosures list a $4.49 monthly regulatory-programs and telco-recovery fee per voice line, subject to change, plus taxes and other surcharges. A tax-inclusive Magenta account can therefore be cheaper in practice even when its advertised service price looks less generous.
International service: match the plan to your travel
Separate Canada and Mexico from other international destinations. T-Mobile’s current roaming page lists up to 30GB of high-speed Canada/Mexico data on Experience Beyond or Better Value, 15GB on Experience More or Go5G Plus, and 10GB on Go5G. Other destinations have separate allowances: Experience More lists 5GB and Experience Beyond 15GB in 215-plus destinations. After high-speed data is used, service may continue at reduced speed.

- True Unlimited High-Speed Data at 4G/LTE speed on T-Mobile Network in USA.
- Unlimited calls within the USA, International texting and personal hotspot at 3G speed.
- Calls, texting, and data can also be used in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
- The activation takes up to 2 Hours.
Calls, texts, destination eligibility, extended-use restrictions and data-pass pricing are separate questions. Someone traveling once or twice a year may spend less by keeping Magenta and buying a pass. Frequent travelers who need predictable high-speed data may justify a premium plan. See T-Mobile’s roaming allowances and international pass information.
Who should probably stay on Magenta?
- You use little hotspot data and are satisfied with local coverage.
- You rarely travel internationally.
- You keep phones for several years.
- Your bill includes taxes and fees, free lines or substantial legacy discounts.
- You are still receiving device-promotion credits.
- The new plan’s streaming services duplicate subscriptions you would not otherwise buy.
- The only motivation is the “5G” label or a temporary phone advertisement.
Who should consider a current Experience plan?
Experience More
Consider it when you want a two-year upgrade path, more hotspot capacity than historical Magenta, regular Canada/Mexico use or included Netflix, and the final bill increase is modest after taxes and lost discounts.
Experience Beyond
It is aimed at annual upgraders, very heavy hotspot users and frequent travelers who can use 30GB in Canada/Mexico and 15GB in other covered destinations. The higher price is harder to justify if you do not use those benefits.
Better Value
Better Value can be attractive for eligible three-to-five-line accounts needing large hotspot and Canada/Mexico allowances, but verify eligibility and taxes before treating its listed price as your quote.

Discounts and special account types need separate checking
Military, First Responder, 55+, business and employer-affinity plans can have different eligibility rules. Free lines, Insider discounts, legacy price guarantees and mixed generations of plans may not transfer cleanly. T-Mobile documentation shows that a verification failure on a discounted military plan can move a customer to standard pricing, increasing the cited example by up to $20 per line. Do not assume a public comparison applies to your account.

- Identify the exact plan name and, if support provides it, the plan’s SOC or internal code.
- Download or screenshot your latest bill, including every discount, free line and device credit.
- Record each phone’s payoff balance, remaining promotional credits and trade-in obligations.
- Check eligible migrations while logged in to T-Mobile rather than relying only on a public quote.
- Request a written account-specific quote showing the final monthly amount due.
- Ask explicitly whether every existing device, free-line and account credit survives the change.
- Obtain the new device payment, trade-in value, monthly credit and consequences of leaving before credits finish.
- Accept the change only after the terms are documented.
- Review the first two bills and contact T-Mobile promptly if a promised credit or line treatment is missing.
For device eligibility, T-Mobile’s current Experience Beyond terms describe an eligible financed device becoming upgrade-eligible after at least six months with 50% paid off, subject to plan conditions. That does not make every phone free or guarantee every promotion.

Launch-era answer versus the 2026 answer
When Go5G launched
Switching from Magenta made the most sense for customers who regularly used hotspot data, traveled in Canada or Mexico, upgraded phones every one or two years, or valued the additional entertainment and travel benefits enough to offset a higher bill. Many light users and deeply discounted legacy accounts had little reason to move.
As of August 18, 2026
Most customers should compare their grandfathered Magenta bill with Experience More, Experience Beyond or an eligible Better Value offer—not assume Go5G Plus is still available. Keep Magenta when its tax-inclusive billing, free lines, discounts and existing credits outweigh the newer plan’s benefits. Move only when the documented value of upgrades, hotspot, travel or subscriptions exceeds the complete cost of changing plans.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Go5G a faster network than Magenta?
No. Go5G was a rate-plan family using T-Mobile’s existing network. Coverage and device compatibility determine network performance; changing plans does not automatically improve local coverage.
Does upgrading to Experience Beyond guarantee a free phone every year?
No. Annual upgrade eligibility depends on financing, payoff percentage, device condition, trade-in rules, qualifying promotions and keeping the plan while credits are paid.
Is Go5G Plus still available?
T-Mobile lists Go5G Plus as retired in July 2025. Existing customers may retain grandfathered service, but availability for a new migration is account-specific.
