These are historical Memorial Day 2025 prices, not live offers. The roundup was published May 19, 2025, ahead of Memorial Day on May 26. Its standout discounts were an unlocked Pixel 9 from $599, a fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat at $239.99, and Pixel Watch 2 from $150. By August 2026, Google’s newer Pixel 10 and Pixel Watch 4 generation had changed the comparison, and Best Buy listings showed different prices. Use the figures below to judge the quality of the promotion, not as a promise that the same checkout prices remain available.
Quick verdict
- Best straightforward phone value: the unlocked Pixel 9 128GB at $599, if you wanted a conventional Android phone and did not need Pro camera hardware.
- Best premium-phone discount: Pixel 9 Pro Fold at $1,499, or $300 off, but only if the foldable design itself justifies the high price.
- Best practical smart-home purchase: the fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat at $239.99 new, after checking HVAC compatibility.
- Best wearable bargain: Pixel Watch 2 Wi-Fi at $150, recognizing that it was an older generation rather than a Pixel Watch 3 equivalent.
- Most likely to disappoint: any headline price that depends on activation, trade-in credits, a carrier bill, an unavailable accessory, or an incompatible thermostat installation.
The original deal list mixed Amazon and Best Buy offers. The source article and its historical prices are available at 9to5Google’s May 19, 2025 roundup.
Pixel 9 deals: which configuration made sense?
| Model | Historical deal price | Cited regular/comparable price | Savings | Best for | Main caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pixel 9 128GB | $599 | $799 | $200 | Most buyers seeking value | Less storage |
| Pixel 9 256GB | $649 | $899 | $250 | People keeping a phone longer | Confirm the exact storage SKU |
| Pixel 9 512GB | $919 | $1,219 | $300 | Heavy local-storage users | Smaller value advantage relative to the base model |
| Pixel 9 Pro | From $799 | $999 | $200 | Pro camera and display features | Price changes by storage tier |
| Pixel 9 Pro XL | From $899 | $1,099 | $200 | People preferring a larger display and battery | Larger and heavier phone |
| Pixel 9 Pro Fold | $1,499 | Not consistently stated in the roundup | $300 | Buyers specifically wanting a foldable | High absolute cost and niche form factor |
The listed prices applied to unlocked Amazon offers, with some availability at Best Buy. “From” pricing was not a guarantee that every storage or color option cost the same. The $599 Pixel 9 was the best cash-value choice for most buyers who wanted a standard phone; the Pro models earned their premiums through camera, display, materials, or size advantages. The Fold was not a sensible substitute for a conventional Pixel merely because its discount was large.
Unlocked does not mean every deal is uncomplicated
At checkout, verify that the listing is unlocked rather than carrier-specific and that the price is available without activation, a new line, a trade-in, or monthly bill credits. Also check whether the item is new, open-box, or sold by a marketplace seller. A later indexed Best Buy listing showed an unlocked Pixel 9 128GB at $499 during a sale period, while another later listing showed $679.97, illustrating how quickly these numbers moved. See Best Buy’s indexed sale listings for the retailer’s changing inventory.

How to choose storage
The 256GB Pixel 9 cost $50 more than the historical 128GB deal and added $250 to the cited regular price comparison; it was the sensible upgrade for people storing substantial photos, video, or games. The 512GB model saved $300 against its cited comparable price, but its $919 cash price reduced the everyday-value advantage. Confirm capacity in the cart rather than relying on a headline that says only “Pixel 9.”
Nest Learning Thermostat: new versus open-box
The fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat was listed at $239.99 new against a $279.99 regular price. Best Buy open-box examples were approximately $182 to $190, depending on color and condition. The roundup described those examples as including a two-year parts-and-labor warranty and original or replacement accessories, but open-box terms can change. Verify the current grade, warranty wording, return period, and included parts on the individual listing.

Open-box checklist
- Confirm whether the wall plate, trim kit, temperature sensor, screws, and wiring accessories are included.
- Check whether the unit was previously installed and whether cosmetic wear is acceptable.
- Compare shipping and local-pickup inventory; they may show different grades or prices.
- Read the product-page warranty and return terms rather than assuming the historical two-year description still applies.
A later Best Buy listing showed a fourth-generation thermostat bundled with a Nest Temperature Sensor at $239.99. That is not necessarily the same SKU as a thermostat-only listing, so compare bundle contents before calling one price cheaper. The indexed listing is at Best Buy.
Compatibility comes before the discount
- Use Google’s compatibility checker with your existing thermostat wiring and HVAC system.
- Determine whether a C-wire, power connector, or professional installation is required.
- Check regional voltage and system limitations, especially for unusual heating or cooling equipment.
- Price any electrical or installation work before comparing a $239.99 new unit with an open-box one.
Smart-home platform compatibility is separate from HVAC compatibility. Renters and homes with incompatible wiring may get no practical value from a cheap thermostat.

Nest Cam Indoor
The Nest Cam Indoor was listed around $70, but the hardware price is only part of the cost. Decide whether you need cloud history, advanced detection, or Google Home Premium features, and verify the current subscription requirements. Hardware ownership does not automatically provide every recording or AI feature.
Pixel Watch 2 and Galaxy Watch 7
Pixel Watch 2
| Version | Historical price | Cited regular price | Who should consider it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi | $150 | $250 | Lowest-cost entry to Google’s wearable ecosystem |
| LTE | $200 | $300 | People who will use the watch away from a phone |
Pixel Watch 2 was not the newest model at the time, so the discount was an entry-price win rather than a latest-hardware recommendation. LTE is worthwhile only if standalone connectivity matters and you accept carrier activation and recurring service charges. Include cellular service, replacement bands, protection, and any paid features when calculating ownership cost. Google’s later product page promotes Pixel Watch 4, confirming that Watch 2 is now a previous-generation bargain: Google Store.

Each promotion included a Samsung band stated at approximately $50–$70 in value. The band was not cash savings if you would never buy one: select the qualifying accessory during checkout, then check color and style availability. LTE versions can require activation and monthly service. Galaxy Watch is a more natural match for Samsung Galaxy phones; iPhone users should verify compatibility before ordering.

- DJI Osmo Mobile 6 — $99: a meaningful price for smartphone video creators who will use stabilization and tracking, but unnecessary for casual filming.

How to verify a Memorial Day deal before paying
- Match the SKU: confirm model, storage, screen size, connectivity, color, and generation.
- Read the condition: distinguish new, open-box, refurbished, and marketplace inventory.
- Check the cart total: make sure the advertised price appears before trade-in credits, gift cards, or subscriptions.
- Confirm eligibility: reject carrier activation or bill-credit offers unless you have calculated the full two-year cost.
- Verify stock and seller: shipping, pickup, and marketplace sellers can have different prices, warranties, and return policies.
- Check included items: manually add any free band, sensor, charger, or other promotional accessory and ensure it remains in stock.
- Review compatibility and recurring costs: do the HVAC check for thermostats, carrier check for LTE watches, and subscription check for cameras.
Who should have bought what?
- Budget phone buyer: unlocked Pixel 9 128GB at the historical $599 price.
- Storage-conscious phone buyer: Pixel 9 256GB at $649, after confirming the SKU.
- Camera enthusiast: Pixel 9 Pro or Pro XL; pay the premium only if those camera and display benefits matter.
- Foldable enthusiast: Pixel 9 Pro Fold at $1,499, accepting the high cash outlay and specialized design.
- Smart-home upgrader: new Nest Learning Thermostat at $239.99 after compatibility and installation checks.
- Value wearable buyer: Pixel Watch 2 Wi-Fi at $150 if previous-generation hardware is acceptable.
- Samsung ecosystem buyer: Galaxy Watch 7 with the band promotion, provided the band is genuinely useful and LTE service is budgeted.
Because the promotion ended after the May 2025 Memorial Day period and Google’s product cycle has moved on, waiting for a comparable sale is rational if you do not need a device immediately. Current offers should be checked against exact SKUs on the Google Store offers page and Best Buy’s live listings rather than inferred from an indexed deal page.
