The seller claimed a 3-terabyte archive containing 380 million customer profiles and other records. Independent reporting verified many genuine samples. Advance Auto Parts later confirmed unauthorized access to its Snowflake-hosted information and identified 2,316,591 affected people, primarily current and former employees and job applicants. Its official notice described exposed names, Social Security numbers, driver’s-license or government-ID numbers, and dates of birth. The available official notice does not establish that all 380 million alleged customer profiles were stolen.
What happened to Advance Auto Parts data?
Advance Auto Parts says an unauthorized party accessed or copied information maintained in its Snowflake environment between April 14 and May 24, 2024. The company learned of the incident on May 23 and completed its review of affected information on June 10. It notified law enforcement and affected individuals.
On June 5, a threat actor using the handle Sp1d3r advertised an alleged 3-terabyte Advance Auto archive on a cybercrime forum for $1.5 million. BleepingComputer reported that it independently confirmed a large number of genuine customer records and found references to “SNOWFLAKE” in the material. That supports the authenticity of portions of the data, not the seller’s entire archive or its claimed record count.
What the seller claimed was in the archive
These figures and categories came from the threat-actor listing or contemporaneous reporting, not from a complete company confirmation:

- 380 million customer profiles
- 140 million customer orders
- 44 million loyalty or gas-card numbers
- Parts and part-number information, sales history, and transaction-tender details
- Employment-candidate data allegedly containing Social Security numbers, driver’s-license numbers, and demographic information
- Data on 358,000 employees, a figure that could include former employees or associates, although that explanation was not independently established
Do not treat the 380-million figure as 380 million confirmed victims. The listing was a criminal seller’s marketing claim, and the full 3-terabyte archive was not established by the available evidence.
What independent reporting verified
BleepingComputer said many sampled Advance Auto customer records were legitimate and that some data referenced the company’s Snowflake environment. The validation shows that at least part of the advertised material was genuine. It does not prove that every advertised record was current, unique, stolen in the same incident, or included in the confirmed affected population.

| Claim or finding | What it means |
|---|---|
| 3 TB of data | Threat-actor claim; the complete archive was not established. |
| 380 million customer profiles | Threat-actor claim, not a confirmed victim count. |
| 2,316,591 affected people | Later company-related reporting and settlement-class information, primarily involving employees, former employees, and job applicants. |
| Names, Social Security numbers, government-ID numbers, and dates of birth | Information categories identified in Advance Auto’s official breach notice. |
| Genuine customer samples | Independently reported validation of portions of the material, not confirmation of the entire customer database. |
What Advance Auto officially confirmed
Advance Auto’s official Delaware breach notice says the accessed information was collected during the job-application process. Potentially exposed categories were names, Social Security numbers, driver’s-license or government-ID numbers, and dates of birth. The notice offered affected individuals 12 months of Experian credit monitoring and identity-restoration services, and recommended reviewing accounts and credit reports, considering fraud alerts and security freezes, and watching for identity-theft attempts.
Later reporting put the affected population at 2,316,591 people. That number refers to people determined or notified to be affected; it is not interchangeable with the seller’s alleged 380 million customer profiles. “2.3 million employees” is also inaccurate because the group included current and former employees and job applicants.

Was Snowflake itself breached?
“Snowflake attack” is shorthand that can obscure the technical picture. In its analysis of the UNC5537 campaign, Mandiant and Google Cloud said attackers used stolen credentials, often obtained through infostealer malware. Many affected accounts lacked multifactor authentication and network allow lists. Mandiant found no evidence that the campaign resulted from a breach of Snowflake’s own enterprise environment.
The more precise description is that attackers compromised Snowflake customer accounts, including an Advance Auto environment, using stolen credentials. The available evidence does not show that a Snowflake software vulnerability was necessarily exploited.

Who may be affected?
- Current and former employees and job applicants: These are the people most clearly covered by Advance Auto’s official notice and later affected-population reporting.
- Customers: Independent reporting found genuine customer samples in the advertised material, but Advance Auto’s formal notice did not confirm the entire alleged customer dataset.
- People who received a notice: Notice status is more reliable for remediation and settlement purposes than an internet claim or an unofficial breach database.
What to do if you received an Advance Auto notice
- Use only the contact details and enrollment instructions printed in the notice. Avoid links in unsolicited follow-up messages.
- Enroll in the offered monitoring or identity-restoration service if your notice’s enrollment window remains open. Credit monitoring detects some suspicious activity; it does not prevent identity theft.
- Place a security freeze with Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. A freeze can restrict new-credit inquiries and is free to place and lift.
- Consider a fraud alert and obtain your credit reports. The Federal Trade Commission’s guidance is at IdentityTheft.gov.
- Review bank, card, tax, insurance, and benefits accounts. Be alert for phishing messages that use employment or personal details.
- Change any reused password and enable multifactor authentication on other services. A password manager such as 1Password, Bitwarden, or Proton Pass can help if password reuse is the problem; it is not required for a credit freeze.
If you only saw an online claim
Do not download, search for, or redistribute the alleged database. Unofficial “dark-web lookup” services and breach-help messages may be phishing operations that collect more sensitive information. A customer appearing in an online sample does not by itself establish settlement eligibility or guarantee that the person received a company notice.

The administrator says approved payments were issued on February 5, 2026, and checks not cashed by May 6, 2026, became void. The settlement website remaining online does not mean claims are still open. Eligibility and payment rights depend on the official settlement documents and administrator records. Advance Auto denies wrongdoing, and the settlement is not a court finding that the company was liable. A court order described a proposed $10 million common fund and an estimated class of approximately 2.3 million people; it did not make the threat actor’s 380-million claim an official count.

Bottom line on the Advance Auto data sale
The breach and the criminal sale listing were real events. Genuine Advance Auto records appeared in independently reviewed samples, while the company’s official notice confirmed exposure of sensitive employment-related information affecting about 2.3 million people. The seller’s 3-terabyte and 380-million-profile figures, and the complete scope of customer exposure, remain unverified claims rather than established facts.
