Veeam moved its corporate headquarters from Columbus, Ohio, to Carillon Point in Kirkland, Washington, in the Seattle region, while reporting more than $1.5 billion in annual recurring revenue (ARR) in March 2024. The decision put the data-protection company closer to Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Oracle, as enterprise buyers increasingly treat backup and recovery as part of cybersecurity and operational resilience.

What moved, and when

The March 29, 2024 announcement concerned a move from Columbus to Kirkland—not Veeam’s first headquarters relocation. After Insight Partners acquired Veeam in March 2020 in a deal reported at about $5 billion, the company had already shifted its corporate headquarters from Switzerland to the United States.

Veeam’s new Kirkland office occupies a full floor at Carillon Point and was designed with room to expand. At the time of the announcement, approximately 50 employees worked in the Seattle area, compared with more than 5,000 employees in 50 countries worldwide. Veeam retained other U.S. and international operations, so “Seattle headquarters” should not be read as a wholesale move of the company’s workforce or engineering footprint.

Why Veeam chose the Seattle region

Cloud-partner proximity

Veeam said proximity to major cloud providers was a central reason for the relocation. Microsoft, AWS, Google Cloud and Oracle are not merely infrastructure suppliers; their marketplaces and partner channels increasingly influence how enterprises purchase and deploy software. A Kirkland base gives Veeam greater access to those ecosystems and to customers visiting the Pacific Northwest.

Technical talent and leadership ties

The Seattle labor market offers a deep pool of cloud and enterprise-software talent. CEO Anand Eswaran previously worked in nearby Redmond as a Microsoft corporate vice president, while COO Matthew Bishop had Microsoft and RingCentral experience and was based in Kirkland. Those connections support recruiting and executive engagement, although they do not establish that Washington is Veeam’s principal engineering center.

A commercial, not purely geographic, strategy

The relocation can reasonably be viewed as an effort to strengthen cloud-platform alignment, enterprise relationships and partner-led distribution. It also gives Veeam a physical briefing location for customers and partners. The Seattle-area presence was initially small relative to the global workforce, making it better understood as a strategic center of gravity than as evidence that Veeam abandoned Ohio.

What “more than $1.5 billion in ARR” means

Veeam said it crossed more than $1.5 billion in annual recurring revenue in March 2024. ARR is an annualized estimate of recurring subscription or contract revenue. It is not necessarily the same as revenue recognized under GAAP, and it does not equal profit, cash flow, bookings or total contract value.

Because Veeam is privately held, this was a company-reported operating milestone rather than a publicly filed, audited revenue line. The distinction matters to investors and business readers: ARR indicates the scale of repeatable customer commitments, but it does not by itself show margins, cash generation or balance-sheet strength.

What Veeam sells

Veeam describes itself as a data-protection and cyber-recovery company rather than simply a backup vendor. Its portfolio spans:

  • Backup and recovery for virtual machines and physical servers.
  • Protection for public-cloud workloads, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Salesforce and Azure.
  • Kubernetes protection through Kasten.
  • Threat detection, malware analysis, backup validation and recovery orchestration.
  • Immutable cloud backup storage through Veeam Vault.

Veeam Data Platform is positioned as self-managed software for hybrid and multicloud environments. Veeam Data Cloud is a managed SaaS model in which Veeam handles infrastructure and storage. That difference affects staffing, control, recovery design and total cost.

Why ransomware and cloud adoption support demand

Veeam’s 2024 Data Protection Trends Report surveyed 1,200 IT leaders and professionals. In the figures cited by GeekWire, 75% reported at least one ransomware attack in the prior 12 months, 25% reported four or more, 80% said they paid a ransom, and 25% of those who paid still could not retrieve their data. These are survey results, not an independently audited measurement of every organization.

  • The available storage capacity may vary.

The business implication is broader than “buy backup.” Effective resilience requires recoverable and tested copies, immutability or isolation, clean-system restoration, application-consistent recovery and documented recovery-time and recovery-point objectives. Backup can reduce the damage from an intrusion, but it does not replace identity, endpoint, network or application security. Cloud and SaaS adoption also creates data-protection responsibilities that customers must configure and govern.

Veeam’s competitive position and trade-offs

GeekWire reported that IDC ranked Veeam first in the data replication and protection market-share category, ahead of Dell, IBM, Veritas and Commvault. That is a specific IDC market assessment, not a claim that Veeam is the largest cybersecurity company overall. Gartner’s 2023 assessment identified Veeam as a leader while noting cautions about complexity and responsiveness to market trends; those are analyst judgments, not universal product ratings.

Provider Positioning Key trade-off
Veeam Self-managed Data Platform, SaaS Data Cloud and Vault storage Broad workload and deployment flexibility can require more operational expertise in self-managed environments.
Rubrik Subscription-oriented cyber-recovery platform with threat monitoring and a ransomware recovery warranty Enterprise, sales-led model; public pricing is limited.
Commvault Hybrid-enterprise operational, autonomous and cyber-recovery packaging Broad capability with primarily quote-based pricing.
Commvault Clumio Cloud-native backup and recovery with usage-based signals May be less suitable where extensive on-premises application coverage is required.
Druva Fully cloud-based data protection Less customer-managed infrastructure, but less fit for organizations requiring extensive local control.

Relevant comparison pages include Rubrik Enterprise Edition, Commvault packaging, Commvault Clumio pricing and Druva’s comparison material. Buyers should compare protected workloads, recovery objectives, storage responsibility, immutability, licensing units, support, egress and restore charges, compliance requirements and exit costs—not headline prices alone.

What happened after the 2024 announcement

Veeam’s later disclosures changed the scale picture:

  • In December 2024, the company said ARR had reached $1.7 billion as of September 2024.
  • It also reported a $15 billion valuation following a $2 billion secondary share sale. Valuation reflects an investor price for an ownership stake; it is not revenue.
  • In 2025 coverage, Eswaran said Veeam’s 2024 revenue run rate exceeded $1.74 billion and adjusted EBITDA exceeded $500 million. Adjusted EBITDA is a company-reported measure, not GAAP operating profit.
  • Later reports put Seattle-area employment at about 80 people in late 2024 and nearly 100 in 2025, while global employment rose above 5,500.
  • Microsoft later invested in Veeam and deepened a five-year arrangement to develop AI solutions and jointly sell Veeam Data Cloud with Microsoft 365 and Azure. That was an investment and strategic partnership, not an acquisition.

Sources for these updates are GeekWire’s December 2024 report and its 2025 Microsoft investment coverage.

How enterprise buyers should evaluate the products

  1. Inventory workloads: identify VMware or Hyper-V, physical servers, public-cloud virtual machines, Kubernetes, Microsoft 365, Salesforce and Azure data.
  2. Choose the operating model: compare self-managed Data Platform, Veeam-managed Data Cloud, Veeam Vault or a provider-operated service.
  3. Set recovery requirements: document RPO, RTO, application consistency, mass recovery and disaster-recovery orchestration.
  4. Test isolation and restoration: require immutable repositories, separate credentials, logically isolated or offline copies, malware scanning and scheduled recovery tests.
  5. Price the whole lifecycle: include storage, egress, restore activity, labor, appliances, support, professional services and marketplace or reseller terms.
  6. Check portability and compliance: confirm data residency, encryption-key control, retention rules and the cost of exiting the platform.

Public pricing signals

Prices visible on Veeam’s official pages on August 16, 2026 included Veeam Vault Foundation at $14 per TB per month and Advanced at $24 per TB per month. Displayed Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 prices were $2.63 per user per month for Foundation, $3.33 for Advanced and $7 for Premium; the page notes the Foundation figure reflects a volume discount for 251 or more users. Entra ID standalone was shown at $1.08 per user per month, with $0.70 shown as the allocated Advanced-plan price.

Why the headquarters move matters

Veeam’s relocation is best read as an ecosystem and leadership decision. Kirkland places the company near cloud platforms, technical talent and partner channels that shape enterprise procurement, while recurring-revenue growth gives Veeam financial scale to expand its data-protection and cyber-recovery offerings. The local office was modest compared with the global workforce, but its location signaled that Seattle’s cloud economy had become strategically important to Veeam.
