It launched internationally at €3,499, while the Chinese starting price was CNY 19,999. The reviewed sources do not establish an official U.S. retail launch or U.S. MSRP, so American buyers are generally considering an import rather than a normal carrier purchase.

Early articles that described the phone as China-only were accurate when written in September 2024, but they are not a current answer after the February 2025 international launch.
How much does the Huawei Mate XT cost?
China price
The Chinese starting price was CNY 19,999. TechCrunch described that as approximately $2,800 at the September 2024 exchange rate. That dollar figure is a historical currency conversion, not a U.S. retail price or U.S. MSRP.
International price
The announced international price was €3,499. The Associated Press reported that as approximately $3,662 at the February 18, 2025 exchange rate. Exchange rates change, and the converted amount excludes local sales taxes, shipping, seller markup and accessories.

What an imported U.S. purchase can really cost
There is no verified current U.S. checkout price in the sources available for this article. A gray-market listing can add several costs to the international price:
- Seller markup and international shipping
- Import duties, customs charges or state sales tax
- Foreign-exchange and payment-processing fees
- A compatible charger, case or other accessories
- Paid repairs or international return shipping
Therefore, a listing advertised as “$3,000” or “$3,600” should not be treated as an official U.S. price. Ask for the complete delivered cost before comparing it with a locally supported foldable.
Is the Huawei Mate XT available in the United States?
Huawei announced international availability in February 2025, but the reviewed sources do not establish an official U.S. retail launch, U.S. MSRP or Huawei U.S. checkout page for the Mate XT. The most accurate description is no confirmed official U.S. retail release found, not a categorical claim that the phone can never be sold in America.

U.S. buyers may encounter imported or gray-market units. Those are seller-supplied products, not evidence of carrier distribution or local manufacturer support. Warranty terms, return rights, software region and network compatibility must be confirmed with the individual seller.
What makes the Mate XT a tri-fold phone?
“Tri-fold” describes three display sections that fold twice; it does not mean three separate hinges or three independent folds. Huawei says the phone switches among three operating formats:

The biggest practical and financial drawbacks
Exceptional purchase price
At €3,499 internationally, the Mate XT costs substantially more than conventional flagship foldables. Financing an imported phone at that price also increases the cost of a failure, loss or return because local repair and insurance options may be limited.

Google services and app compatibility
The Associated Press identifies the lack of Google Mobile Services as a major international limitation. Depending on the regional software build, buyers may face complications with Google Play, Google Wallet, Android Auto, push notifications, banking applications and work apps. This is a compatibility risk, not proof that every individual app will fail.
Carrier and 5G uncertainty
The reviewed UK specification page lists LTE bands but no 5G bands. Do not infer U.S. carrier compatibility from the phone’s premium branding. Match the exact model’s supported bands with your carrier and confirm whether voice, data, texting and emergency calling work before the return period ends. Huawei also notes that actual network performance depends on carrier deployment.
Warranty, repairs and durability
Three display sections and two folds create more moving and flexible components than a conventional book-style foldable. That makes repairability and long-term durability important questions, but the available sources do not establish an independent failure rate. Confirm who handles warranty claims, where repairs occur, which shipping costs you pay and whether a damaged imported unit can be returned.

Accessories may not match
Maximum wired charging may require a 66 W-or-higher Huawei SuperCharge package, and wireless accessories capable of up to 50 W may be separate purchases. Charger, cable, case and warranty documentation can differ by market.

How it compares with a conventional foldable
A locally supported book-style foldable usually offers a smaller unfolded screen but simpler purchasing, carrier compatibility, Google services, repair access and predictable warranty coverage. A standard flagship phone paired with a tablet can also deliver a large-screen workflow for less financial risk. Compare the total after-tax cost and support package, not just the Mate XT’s headline screen size.
Verdict
The Mate XT is a real, commercially launched tri-fold phone, not an upcoming product. Its strongest argument is the transformation from a 6.4-inch handset to a 10.2-inch workspace. Its largest liabilities are the €3,499 international price, uncertain U.S. retail support, Google-service limitations, carrier-band questions and the financial risk of importing a complex device. For most U.S. buyers, it is a specialist import to research carefully—not a routine phone purchase.
