There is no single best website for every electronic. Use Swappa or eBay when maximum cash is the priority, Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp for local and bulky items, and Gazelle, Decluttr, SellCell, or trade-in programs when speed and convenience matter more than the highest possible payout. Amazon, Walmart Marketplace, Back Market, and Shopify are generally business channels rather than places to sell one household device.
This guide is for U.S. consumer sellers. Fees, eligibility, shipping options, protection, and trade-in values vary by country, category, condition, account, and date; check each linked policy before listing.
Quick comparison: which selling model fits?
| Priority | Good starting options | Main compromise |
|---|---|---|
| Highest potential cash | Swappa, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Mercari | More listing, negotiation, shipping, and dispute work |
| Fast, low-effort sale | Gazelle, Decluttr, SellCell, Apple Trade In, Best Buy Trade-In | Quote or credit may be lower than a successful private sale |
| Local pickup | Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, Craigslist | No-shows, safety concerns, and less standardized protection |
| Repeat resale business | Shopify, Amazon, Walmart Marketplace, Back Market | Approval, fulfillment, returns, customer service, and operating costs |
Normalize every option to a net payout. A $300 marketplace sale is not equivalent to a $300 buyback quote after fees, shipping, returns, and your time.
The 15 best sites for selling electronics
1. eBay — broadest reach
Best for: rare, collectible, discontinued, new, refurbished, parts, and unusual electronics. eBay supports fixed prices, auctions, offers, variations, and international reach. Use completed sales—not active asking prices—to estimate value.

Fees depend on category, account, store, promotions, and order total, so use the live fee table. Returns, “not as described” claims, payment disputes, and shipping damage can reduce proceeds; review seller-protection conditions. Start at Seller Hub.
2. Swappa — specialist used-tech marketplace
Best for: modern phones, tablets, MacBooks, laptops, watches, cameras, and gaming equipment. Swappa reviews listings, connects buyers and sellers directly, and advertises a 3% seller fee when an item sells, with payment processing separate. Sellers are paid before shipping under its stated process. See how to sell, fees, and eligible listings.
Accurately report model, storage, carrier and unlock status, condition, repairs, battery health, and accessories. Unsupported, broken, or very old items may fit another channel better.
3. Facebook Marketplace — local and bulky electronics
Best for: TVs, monitors, speakers, printers, older computers, and anything expensive or fragile to ship. Local pickup can avoid shipping and payment-processing costs, but shipped-sale rules differ from local transactions. Use Marketplace, review commerce policies, and follow safety guidance.
4. Mercari — simple shipping-oriented listings
Best for: small phones, accessories, consoles, and household tech. It offers an integrated listing and shipping workflow. Seller fees and shipping rules change; check the current fee page and shipping instructions before publishing.

5. OfferUp — local discovery
Best for: common devices, accessories, game systems, and small appliances that buyers can inspect locally. Demand varies by city, and shipped transactions have different eligibility and protection. Start at OfferUp selling and use its meeting-safety rules.
6. Craigslist — classified local sales
Best for: bulky, low-value, older, repair, or parts lots. Most ordinary listings do not have a conventional marketplace commission, but buyer protection is limited and communication is manual. Use the site directory, scam guidance, and safety guidance. Avoid shipping high-value devices to strangers.
7. Gazelle — quote-first convenience
Best for: eligible phones, tablets, computers, and other devices when speed outweighs maximum value. Request a quote at Gazelle; the final offer can change after inspection if condition, lock status, or model differs. Read the preparation instructions and FAQ.
8. Decluttr — mixed household technology
Best for: phones, games, consoles, media, books, and small electronics shipped together. It reduces negotiation and generally provides prepaid shipping, but inspection can change or reject a quote. See selling information, electronics categories, and the FAQ.
9. SellCell — compare buyback offers
Best for: comparing several buyers for phones, tablets, consoles, watches, and other electronics. The displayed offer comes from the individual buyer; inspect that buyer’s shipping, inspection, payment, and return terms rather than choosing only the highest headline quote. Start at SellCell or phone comparison.

Best for: established merchants with tested inventory, warranties, fulfillment capacity, and repeat volume. It is not normally a casual one-device classified site. Review seller onboarding and seller requirements.
11. Amazon — business inventory
Best for: repeat new or refurbished inventory with product identifiers, sourcing records, fulfillment, and customer-service capacity. Plans, referral fees, category restrictions, returns, account health, authenticity, and condition rules matter. See Amazon selling, pricing, and condition guidelines. It is usually excessive for one household laptop.

14. Best Buy Trade-In — retailer credit
Best for: consumers planning a Best Buy purchase. Eligibility and value vary, and the result may be store credit rather than cash. See the consumer trade-in program; do not confuse it with Best Buy Marketplace for businesses.

Calculate a realistic net payout
Use this formula for every channel:
Net payout = sale price + shipping charged − platform fee − payment processing − shipping label − packaging − expected refund or return cost − seller-specific taxes or costs.
- Identify the exact model and configuration.
- Check completed or sold listings and at least one buyback or trade-in quote.
- Adjust for condition, battery health, warranty, lock status, accessories, damage, and local versus shipped sale.
- Subtract every cost and assign a value to your testing, photography, messages, packing, and time.
A nominally higher-fee site can still produce more net money if it reaches buyers willing to pay more or sells faster.
Prepare the device before listing
- Back up data, then sign out of Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung, and other accounts.
- Disable Find My, Activation Lock, Factory Reset Protection, and enterprise-management controls.
- Remove SIM and memory cards; factory-reset only after confirming the backup.
- Record the serial number, IMEI, or service tag privately. Conceal most digits in public photos.
- Test charging, ports, display, cameras, speakers, microphones, wireless connections, storage, and battery health.
- Clean safely, photograph damage and included accessories, and charge the device enough to demonstrate operation.
- Disclose carrier locks, financing, repairs, replaced parts, intermittent faults, swollen batteries, and missing items.
A carrier-locked, account-locked, financed, enterprise-managed, or blacklisted device is not “unlocked” or “ready to activate.” A broken item can be sold for repair or parts only when the defect is prominent and shipping is economical.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Create a listing buyers can trust
- Use a precise title with brand, exact model identifier, configuration, storage or RAM, carrier, and condition.
- State functional and cosmetic condition, battery reading, repair history, accessories, warranty, and whether the device reaches its initial setup screen.
- Photograph every side, ports, screen, labels, accessories, damage, and the powered-on device. Do not expose full IMEI or serial numbers.
- Price from completed sales, then leave room for legitimate offers without hiding defects.
- State handling time, shipping method, return terms, and whether the buyer or seller pays shipping.
Ship electronics safely
- Power down and protect the screen and corners.
- Use a snug inner box, cushioning, and a rigid outer box with no empty space.
- Follow current carrier rules for lithium-ion, damaged, loose, and international batteries; there is no universal battery instruction.
- Buy tracking and consider insurance for high-value items after checking exclusions.
- Photograph the packed item, label, and drop-off receipt.
- Ship only to the address authorized in the transaction. An address change can void protection; cancel and have the buyer reorder if allowed.
Local-pickup safety
- Meet in a public, well-lit exchange area or police-station safe-trade location.
- Tell someone where you are and do not go to a private location under pressure.
- Verify payment in your own banking or payment app, not from a screenshot.
- Let the buyer test basic functions without exposing personal accounts; release the item only after confirmed payment.
- Reject checks, overpayments, gift cards, fake courier arrangements, and requests to move payment off-platform.
Common failure modes
- Account lock: the buyer cannot activate the device, causing a return or dispute. Sign out and confirm the setup screen.
- Wrong identifier: copy model, serial, and IMEI directly from settings or the hardware label.
- Hidden fault: test intermittent charging, ports, cameras, displays, water damage, and battery condition.
- Fake payment or off-platform link: keep communication and payment within the platform and verify independently.
- Shipping damage: inadequate padding can turn a sale into a refund.
- Return swap: record serial numbers, photographs, packing, and shipment records, then follow the platform’s return procedure.
- Cross-listing collision: a simultaneous sale can trigger cancellation penalties. For one or two items, use one specialist marketplace plus one local channel and delist immediately after sale.
Cash sale, trade-in, or buyback?
Choose a direct marketplace when the device is desirable, identifiable, working, and worth the effort. Choose buyback when predictable completion and minimal messaging matter more. Choose manufacturer or retailer trade-in when restricted credit is useful. For a business with repeat inventory, use professional marketplaces or a storefront only after accounting for approval, fulfillment, returns, support, and monthly costs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best site to sell a used phone?
For a modern, identifiable phone, compare a Swappa or eBay net estimate with SellCell and Gazelle quotes. The best choice depends on cash, speed, effort, lock status, and condition.
Is it better to sell or trade in an iPhone?
A private sale usually offers higher potential cash; Apple Trade In is simpler and may provide Apple credit. Compare the net cash value with the credit you will actually use.
Can I sell a locked or financed phone?
Disclose carrier or account locks and any financing. Never claim a device is unlocked or clear to activate without verifying it; a blacklisted or account-locked phone may have little legitimate resale value.
Do I need to wipe a laptop before selling it?
Yes. Back up data, sign out of accounts, remove management controls, and factory-reset only after confirming the backup.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

The Bottom Line
For most one-off sellers, start with Swappa or eBay for a working modern device, Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp for bulky local items, and a buyback comparison for speed. Calculate the money you will actually keep, remove every account and lock, describe defects precisely, and keep payment and shipping inside the platform’s rules.
