Select Base (chain ID 8453) as the source and Arbitrum One (chain ID 42161) as the destination, review the live quote and token contracts, approve the token if required, confirm the transaction, then verify the funds on Arbitrum One.
What a Base-to-Arbitrum bridge does
Base and Arbitrum One are separate Ethereum Layer 2 networks. A bridge or cross-chain protocol coordinates liquidity or message delivery so an asset represented on Base can arrive on Arbitrum One. Your wallet address can usually be the same on both EVM-compatible networks, but balances remain network-specific: ETH on Base is not spendable on Arbitrum until it has been transferred.
This is different from sending to a normal exchange deposit address. You are signing transactions with a bridge smart contract and accepting that protocol’s architecture and trust assumptions. Ethereum’s bridge overview explains why bridge designs and risks differ.
Choose Arbitrum One, not another Arbitrum network
For normal production use, choose Arbitrum One (chain ID 42161). Do not select Arbitrum Nova (chain ID 42170), Arbitrum Sepolia (a testnet), or an unrelated Arbitrum Orbit chain unless the receiving application specifically requires it. Confirm the full network name in both the bridge and wallet.

Before you start
- An EVM-compatible wallet such as MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, Rabby, or another wallet that the bridge supports.
- The token on Base that you intend to move.
- A small amount of ETH on Base for the source transaction’s network gas. Base’s chain ID and network parameters are documented by Base.
- A plan for Arbitrum gas. Receiving USDC does not automatically give you ETH on Arbitrum unless the quote explicitly includes destination-gas funding or a swap.
- For an unfamiliar route or a large amount, a small test transfer first.
Direct method: USDC on Base to USDC on Arbitrum One with Across
Across documents this route using Base 8453 and Arbitrum One 42161. You can open its official prefilled route at this link, or start at the Across app.
- Check the domain and route. Verify that the app is on the official vendor domain, From is Base, To is Arbitrum One, the input and output tokens are the intended assets, and the recipient is your connected wallet address.
- Connect the wallet holding the funds. Confirm the displayed address character-by-character or through the wallet connection prompt.
- Enter the amount. Leave enough Base ETH for gas. Review amount sent, estimated amount received, bridge or relayer fee, network gas, price impact or slippage, estimated completion time, and whether destination gas is included.
- Check the token contract. Symbols such as USDC can have unrelated copies. For a substantial transfer, verify the contract through the bridge, an official issuer source, a trusted explorer, or the receiving application.
- Approve USDC if prompted. ERC-20 routes commonly require a separate approval transaction before the bridge can spend the token. Native ETH transfers generally do not need an ERC-20 approval.
- Review and sign. In the wallet prompt, check the network, spender or contract address, amount, allowance, gas fee, recipient, and destination details. Use an exact or limited allowance instead of an unlimited approval when the wallet or interface allows it.
- Wait for the route to finish. Statuses may progress from source submission and confirmation to relayer fill, destination delivery, and finalization. Do not resubmit simply because the balance has not appeared.
- Switch to Arbitrum One. Change the wallet network after the bridge reports completion. If the token is hidden, import its contract only from a trusted official source.
- Verify on-chain. Follow the bridge’s transaction link or use a trusted explorer. Confirm Arbitrum One, your recipient address, amount, token contract, and successful status.
Across advertises fast transfers and publishes an average confirmation-to-receipt time on its product page, but that is a provider metric, not a guarantee for every transfer: Across Base bridge.
Bridging ETH and other tokens
ETH
Select native ETH only if the route labels the input and output as native ETH. Some interfaces accept or deliver WETH, or convert between WETH and ETH. Inspect both token labels before signing.
USDC and stablecoins
Use the exact token representation supported by the receiving application. The documented Across example is USDC on Base to USDC on Arbitrum One, but live support and liquidity can change.

Other ERC-20 tokens
A route may be unavailable because a token lacks destination liquidity, is unsupported, has an unrecognized contract, or has exceeded route capacity. Never assume a familiar symbol identifies the official asset.
When to use an aggregator instead
LI.FI can search multiple bridges and exchanges for Base and Arbitrum routes. An aggregator is useful when a direct bridge has no quote, when you need a bridge-and-swap transaction, or when you want to compare final outputs. A route can involve several protocols, approvals, and a DEX swap, so check the provider identity, minimum received, price impact, approval target, and destination token. LI.FI’s route and chain documentation is at its endpoint reference and supported-tools documentation.
Relay-powered routes may appear inside consumer applications. Relay separates relayer service fees, relayer gas, and application fees; categories and rates vary by route and transaction type. See Relay’s fee documentation rather than assuming a quoted percentage applies everywhere.

- Base network gas.
- A bridge or relayer fee.
- Liquidity or solver spread.
- A swap fee and price impact when the route changes tokens.
- Destination-gas funding, if included.
- An application or integrator markup.
Compare the minimum or estimated amount received, not just the headline fee. Prices depend on amount, asset, liquidity, gas conditions, slippage, and provider. Likewise, do not rely on a fixed completion promise: source confirmation, relayer availability, route capacity, maintenance, and service checks can all change timing.
| Option | Best use | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Across direct route | A simple same-token Base-to-Arbitrum transfer when quoted | Live amount received, fees, token representation, and destination gas |
| LI.FI or another aggregator | Comparing providers or bridging and swapping in one flow | Selected bridge, DEX involvement, approvals, price impact, and minimum received |
| Relay-powered route | An integrated application route with favorable execution | Relayer, gas, and application fee components in the final quote |
| Exchange withdrawal | You already hold funds at an exchange that supports Arbitrum One withdrawals | Current network support, withdrawal fee, limits, country and account eligibility |
Verify a completed transfer
- Copy the source transaction hash from the wallet or bridge.
- Confirm that it succeeded on Base.
- Open the bridge’s tracker and note the destination transaction hash when available.
- Check that the destination chain is Arbitrum One and the recipient is the intended account.
- Check the received amount and token contract on a trusted explorer.
- Switch the wallet to Arbitrum One and unhide or import the verified token only if necessary.
Troubleshooting
Insufficient funds or a disabled bridge button
You may have enough tokens but not enough Base ETH for gas. Obtain a small amount of Base ETH through a supported on-ramp, exchange withdrawal, wallet transfer, or another trusted method.
USDC arrived but you cannot transact
You likely lack Arbitrum ETH for gas. Acquire a small amount on Arbitrum through a legitimate on-ramp, exchange, swap, or a route that explicitly includes destination gas.
The bridge is pending
- Check the source transaction on Base.
- Check the bridge’s official tracker.
- Confirm the recipient and destination chain.
- Allow the provider’s stated processing window.
- Contact only the provider’s official support channel; never share a seed phrase or private key.
The source transaction failed
Gas may still have been spent, but the transfer normally did not execute. Check whether the tokens remain on Base and whether the bridge reports a refundable or recoverable state before trying again.

The token is missing from the wallet
Check that the wallet is on Arbitrum One, that you are viewing the correct account, and that the bridge completed. The delivered token may be a different representation. Verify the contract on-chain before importing it.
The wrong network or recipient was used
Confirm network-switch prompts instead of manually sending to a normal-looking address. A transaction sent to the wrong address is generally irreversible.
The token is unsupported or suspicious
Stop if the route cannot identify the token or if its contract came from an unsolicited message, forum post, or search result. A familiar symbol does not prove authenticity.
Safety checklist
- Open bridges from bookmarked official domains, not sponsored results or unsolicited links.
- Confirm “Arbitrum One” and chain ID
42161. - Verify input and output token contracts.
- Compare the final received amount and minimum received.
- Keep source-chain ETH for gas and plan for destination-chain ETH.
- Use a small test transfer for a new route or a large payment.
- Prefer limited approvals where possible and revoke allowances you no longer need.
- Never give support staff your seed phrase or private key.
The official Arbitrum documentation focuses on its canonical Ethereum-to-Arbitrum bridge, so a direct Base-to-Arbitrum transfer generally uses a third-party bridge, solver, or aggregator: Arbitrum documentation.
