Status: The Galaxy S25 preorder promotion ran from January 22 through February 6, 2025; general sales began February 7. The advertised “extra $50 off” was a $50 Samsung Credit for eligible add-ons, not a universal $50 reduction on the phone. The promotion is expired as of August 2026.
During the launch window, Samsung.com was usually the strongest choice for an unlocked Galaxy S25, S25+, or S25 Ultra because it combined model-specific instant discounts, free storage upgrades and trade-in offers. Carriers could provide larger headline savings, but generally through conditional monthly bill credits.

Launch U.S. MSRPs were $799 for Galaxy S25, $999 for Galaxy S25+ and $1,299 for Galaxy S25 Ultra. Availability and pricing in 2026 are separate from these historical preorder terms.

What the “extra $50 off” actually meant
Samsung offered a $50 Samsung Credit to people who reserved an upcoming Galaxy device and then completed a qualifying preorder and purchase with the same email address. The credit could be used during that preorder transaction on eligible additional products through Samsung.com or the Shop Samsung app.
It could not be applied to the preordered Galaxy S25 phone itself. It was one-time use, non-transferable, limited to one qualifying purchase, and any unused amount was forfeited. Samsung could modify or end the promotion under its terms.
How the reservation credit worked
- Reserve the upcoming Galaxy device on Samsung.com or in the Shop Samsung app.
- Preorder an eligible S25-series device during the promotional period using the same email address.
- Complete the purchase and add eligible Samsung products to that transaction.
- Apply the resulting $50 Samsung Credit to those eligible add-ons, not to the handset.
The reservation credit was separate from an instant phone discount, a free storage upgrade, trade-in value, retailer gift card or carrier bill credit. Those benefits could have different eligibility rules.

Samsung advertised total savings as high as $1,250 in some configurations. That figure combined multiple incentives and eligibility conditions; it was not a flat discount available to every buyer. The trade-in figures were ceilings, not guaranteed payments.

Amazon and Best Buy: flexibility, but verify the SKU
Amazon and Best Buy carried Galaxy S25-series listings during the launch period. They could be useful for pickup, retailer financing, membership or card benefits, and comparing unlocked and carrier versions in one place. No universal gift-card amount for either retailer was stated in the launch-period listings, so do not treat an unspecified gift card as guaranteed value.
Before paying, confirm whether the listing is unlocked or carrier-specific, who the seller is, the warranty, return window, storage capacity, eSIM/SIM configuration and trade-in terms. A retailer listing does not automatically create Samsung’s reservation credit; that reward required Samsung’s reservation and same-email purchase conditions.
Why carrier “free phone” offers require a different calculation
Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile generally spread promotional value over monthly device-payment credits. The phone may appear free or heavily discounted only while the required line, plan and account remain eligible.
T-Mobile
T-Mobile’s archived 2025 promotions included examples of up to $1,000 off certain S25-series devices and up to $1,300 off an S25 Ultra for qualifying business customers. Those offers required specific plans, account eligibility and, in some cases, a trade-in or new line. Credits could stop after cancellation or early payoff. See the 2025 promotion archive.

AT&T
AT&T’s terms required an eligible upgrade or new line, an installment plan and a qualifying trade-in for the highest credits. Tax was due on the full retail price, a $35 activation or upgrade fee generally applied, credits could take up to three billing cycles to begin, and credits stopped if service was canceled. Verizon
Verizon’s device-deal guidance explains that promotional credits are conditional and are commonly distributed over the device-payment term. Losing eligibility can end future credits and leave an unpaid device balance. See Verizon’s device deals FAQ.
Which option was cheapest for different buyers?
No trade-in and an unlocked phone
Samsung.com was the clearest launch-period choice: it offered the direct model discount, free storage upgrade and unlocked ownership without a 24- or 36-month service commitment. The $50 reservation reward only helped if you planned to buy an eligible add-on.
Valuable trade-in and an existing premium carrier plan
Compare the carrier’s total bill credits with Samsung’s immediate discount and trade-in quote. Include the required plan cost, taxes, activation fee, remaining device balance and the value of keeping the line active until the final credit.

Lowest monthly payment
A carrier may show the smallest monthly device payment when credits are maximized, but that is not necessarily the lowest total cost. Read what happens if you change plans, pay off early, upgrade, or cancel service.
Maximum flexibility
Buy an unlocked model from Samsung or a retailer and avoid tying the phone discount to a carrier line. You give up some carrier-only credits but retain freedom to change service.

Samsung’s launch terms required the old device to be shipped within 15 days of receiving the qualifying purchase. If it arrived late or failed the stated condition requirements, Samsung could reduce or charge back the anticipated trade-in value.
- Answer every condition question accurately.
- Photograph the phone and its condition before shipment.
- Remove accounts and security locks, then factory-reset it.
- Keep the shipping receipt, tracking number and delivery confirmation.
- Read the inspection and chargeback terms before accepting the estimate.
Checklist before placing any order
- Confirm the exact model, storage capacity and color.
- Choose the “unlocked” SKU or the correct carrier version; do not assume listings are interchangeable.
- If claiming Samsung’s $50 Credit, use the same email used for the reservation.
- Check that the credit applies to an eligible add-on rather than the phone.
- Calculate tax on the full retail price where the carrier requires it.
- Add activation or upgrade fees to the total.
- Record the trade-in deadline and condition requirements.
- Read the return window and what happens to trade-in value after a return.
- For carrier deals, calculate the cost of the qualifying plan and the consequences of cancellation or early payoff.
If the $50 credit or trade-in value is missing
The reservation credit may not appear if you did not reserve first, used a different email, ordered after the reservation period, bought an ineligible device, already used the credit, or tried to apply it to the phone. Confirm the reservation and preorder accounts and review the transaction’s eligible-product list.

A reduced trade-in estimate usually reflects condition, model, ownership, blacklist or account-lock problems, or a missed shipping deadline. Use your photographs and tracking record when disputing an inspection.
Current status
The Galaxy S25 reservation credit and January–February 2025 launch incentives are expired as of August 2026. Samsung’s current offers page may show later post-launch promotions, but those should not be represented as the historical $50 preorder deal: Samsung’s current Galaxy S25 offers.
The Bottom Line
For the 2025 preorder, Samsung.com was generally the best route for an unlocked Galaxy S25 because it combined model-specific instant savings, storage upgrades and trade-in options. The “extra $50” was Samsung Credit for eligible add-ons—not cash off the handset—while carrier offers traded larger potential savings for qualifying plans, trade-ins and months of bill credits. The promotion is no longer available.
