Verizon does not have a universal, brand-new iPhone 13 giveaway. As of August 18, 2026, Verizon’s public listings show a certified-pre-owned iPhone 13 at $299.99 retail (about $8.33 per month for 36 months at 0% APR), while some promotional catalog views show $0 per month after credits. A current $0 offer is account-, plan-, trade-in- and inventory-dependent, so verify the final My Verizon checkout rather than relying on an advertisement.
What “free iPhone 13” means at Verizon
Verizon generally makes a phone “free” by applying monthly promotional bill credits against a device-payment charge. The credits commonly run for 36 months and may take one or two billing cycles to appear. You still pay for Verizon service, and you may owe taxes, activation or upgrade charges, accessories, insurance and any remaining balance on your existing phone. See Verizon’s device-deals FAQ.

The widely advertised “iPhone 13 on us” campaign was a 2021–2022 promotion with qualifying-plan and trade-in conditions. Its historical terms do not establish a generally available offer in 2026; the original announcement is in Verizon’s 2022 PDF.
New versus certified pre-owned
Verizon’s current catalog identifies the iPhone 13 listing as certified pre-owned, not new. The catalog has shown a $299.99 retail price and approximately $8.33 per month for 36 months at 0% APR. A separate promotional catalog view has shown $0 per month after credits. Storage, color, account, ZIP code and inventory can change the listing. Check the product description at Verizon’s certified-pre-owned catalog and the specific product page at Verizon’s iPhone 13 product page.

Check your personalized Verizon offer
- Sign in to My Verizon.
- Open the relevant mobile line and review its upgrade status and remaining device balance.
- Select Upgrade or the personalized device-offer area. Labels can vary slightly as Verizon changes its interface.
- Search for “iPhone 13” and identify whether the listing is new or certified pre-owned.
- Check whether it says online only, requires a new line, requires a particular plan, or requires a trade-in.
- Select the exact storage, color and payment option.
- Enter the trade-in model and condition if the offer requests one.
- Read the promotional credit amount, start date and duration.
- Review the final cart for the device installment, credit, taxes, activation or upgrade fee, plan price and any balance on your current phone.
- Save the offer details and order confirmation. Submit only when the final summary matches the advertised terms.
Verizon’s upgrade instructions show the general workflow and remaining-payment information. The final cart is more authoritative than a banner or search result.
Who can qualify?
Existing Verizon customers
Existing customers may receive upgrade offers, but customer status alone does not guarantee eligibility. Depending on the promotion, the line may need to be upgrade-eligible, on a qualifying plan, and in good standing. Some offers require the traded phone to have been active on that Verizon account for 60 consecutive days. Check the offer attached to your line and Verizon’s Unlimited Plus FAQs.
New Verizon customers
A new customer may need to open a line, choose a qualifying plan, buy the phone through Verizon and possibly port in a number. Verizon’s Add a Line process lets you choose a device and either obtain a new number or transfer an existing one. A new line is not required for every promotion, so read the specific terms.
Trade-in requirements
Some device promotions require no trade-in; others use a trade-in to generate credits. “Up to” a stated value is a maximum, not a guarantee that your phone makes the iPhone 13 free. Enter the exact model and condition in checkout before relying on the headline. A past Verizon community discussion described an “up to $800” iPhone 13 promotion, illustrating why the individual valuation matters; it was not a current offer: Verizon Community discussion.

Verizon’s requirements generally include a phone that powers on, no cracked front or back screen, no battery damage, and disabled Activation Lock or Find My iPhone. The submitted model and condition must match your declaration. New customers can generally trade in a phone from another carrier; some existing-customer promotions impose the 60-day Verizon activity rule.

Verify that “$0 per month” is really $0
Use this calculation from the final order summary:
Device installment charge − monthly promotional credit = net monthly device cost.
For example, a $22.22 installment offset by a $22.22 credit produces a $0 net device charge. Check that the credit lasts for the stated term, normally 36 months, and that the required plan and line remain eligible. Credits may not appear until the first or second billing cycle.
Costs that can remain after the phone is free
| Cost or risk | What to check |
|---|---|
| Wireless service | Your monthly Verizon plan remains payable; the phone credit does not make service free. |
| Taxes | Sales tax depends on state and local jurisdiction and may be collected at checkout. |
| Activation or upgrade | Review the amount shown in your cart; no single nationwide amount is established here. |
| Plan conditions | A required premium plan can cost more than a lower-cost alternative over 36 months. |
| Extras | Check for optional insurance, accessories and other add-ons. |
| Existing device | Confirm its remaining balance, return requirement and whether its current credits would be forfeited. |
Compare the total 36-month service cost with buying an unlocked or refurbished iPhone 13 and using a less expensive carrier. A lower upfront device charge is not automatically the lowest total cost.

When Verizon credits stop
Verizon says credits may stop if you cancel the promoted line, pay off the device early, upgrade early, change to an ineligible plan or, in some circumstances, transfer service to another account. If the device still has an unpaid balance, cancellation can make that balance due. Paying off the phone does not normally accelerate the remaining credits. Account transfers can also leave trade-in credits on the original account; see Verizon’s transfer-service FAQs.

If you already owe money on your current phone
Do not assume a new promotion erases the old installment agreement. In My Verizon, verify the remaining balance, whether the old phone must be returned, whether its existing credits end, and whether the new offer can coexist with the current agreement. Verizon’s upgrade screen is the appropriate place to confirm line-specific eligibility.
If the iPhone 13 is unavailable
- Check My Verizon for a personalized offer and try another storage size or color.
- Review certified-pre-owned iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 inventory in Verizon’s Apple catalog.
- Compare a newer iPhone promotion if the required plan economics are better.
- Consider an unlocked iPhone 13 from Apple, a reputable refurbisher or a major retailer.
- Compare prepaid or MVNO service when minimizing total monthly cost matters more than Verizon financing.
When the Verizon offer makes sense
- You already intend to keep an eligible Verizon line for the full credit term.
- The required plan costs no more than the service you actually need.
- Your trade-in qualifies for the credit shown in checkout.
- You accept a certified-pre-owned phone if that is the listing available.
- The final 36-month device calculation is genuinely $0 or an acceptable discount.
When to reconsider
- You may switch carriers, change plans or upgrade before 36 months.
- The offer requires a more expensive plan than an unlocked-phone alternative.
- You must pay a substantial balance on your current phone.
- You require a brand-new or immediately unlocked device.
- The trade-in value is lower than the amount needed for a full offset.
- The “free” claim appears in an advertisement but not in the final cart.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an existing Verizon customer get a free iPhone 13?
Possibly. Eligibility is tied to the specific account, line, plan and promotion; some offers also require 60 days of prior Verizon activity for the trade-in device.
Do I always need a trade-in?
No. Verizon says requirements differ by promotion. Read the offer details and final cart rather than assuming a headline applies without a trade-in.
Can I trade in a phone from another carrier?
New Verizon customers can generally do so. Existing-customer promotions may require the phone to have been active on the Verizon account for 60 consecutive days.

Is Verizon’s iPhone 13 listing new?
The current catalog evidence identifies the listed iPhone 13 as certified pre-owned. A particular checkout could differ, so confirm the condition label before ordering.
How long must I keep Verizon service?
Credits commonly span 36 months. Canceling, changing to an ineligible plan or upgrading early can end future credits and may leave a device balance.
When will promotional credits appear?
Verizon says they can take one or two billing cycles to appear.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat happens if my trade-in is cracked or Activation Locked?
It may fail Verizon’s condition requirements or receive less credit. Remove Activation Lock, erase the phone and verify the declared condition before shipping.
Best Value
- Unlocked
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to come with a battery that exceeds 80% of original capacity.
- Inspected and guaranteed to have minimal cosmetic damage, which is not noticeable when the device is held at arm’s length. Successfully passed a full diagnostic test which ensures like-new functionality and removal of any prior-user personal information.
Is this offer available in every state?
There is no universal availability guarantee. Inventory, ZIP code, storage, account and plan eligibility can change the result shown at checkout.
Can I get an unlocked iPhone 13 instead?
Yes. Buying an unlocked or reputable refurbished phone separately can provide carrier flexibility, but compare its purchase price and service cost with Verizon’s complete 36-month total.
The Bottom Line
Check My Verizon and the certified-pre-owned catalog, then judge the final cart—not the “free” headline. The deal is worthwhile only if the exact credits offset the device charge, the plan fits your budget, and you are comfortable keeping the eligible line through the promotional term.
