The onn 4K Plus Streaming Device with Google TV went on sale at Walmart in May 2025 for $29.88. Its defining upgrade over cheaper onn players is a USB-C port that handles power and can also recognize some compatible hubs. That can add Ethernet, storage, or peripherals—but it does not turn the box into a guaranteed full-featured dock.
By 2026, coverage reported a price of about $39.88, while Walmart availability and pricing varied by store. Check the live Walmart listing and local pickup status before buying.
What the onn 4K Plus is
The onn 4K Plus is a compact set-top streaming box, not a television, computer dock, or USB-C monitor adapter. It connects to a TV over HDMI, receives power through USB-C, and includes a Google TV voice remote and power adapter. The product is primarily a U.S. Walmart offering; the surfaced quick-start documentation describes Google TV service support as U.S.-only. FCC quick-start document
Google TV supplies the app platform, recommendations, voice search and Google Cast. Software menus and features can change with updates, so this article does not assume a particular Android or Google TV version.

Why the USB-C port matters
It is the power connection
The supplied cable terminates in USB-C and powers the device through the included adapter. HDMI remains the connection for television video; USB-C should not be treated as an alternative video output.
It can add accessories through a hub
Reviewers have used compatible USB-C hubs with the Plus, including configurations involving Ethernet adapters and USB devices. Results depend on the hub chipset, power arrangement, storage format, accessory drivers and firmware. Lon.TV review PCWorld review

- Wired Ethernet may be possible through a suitable adapter.
- USB storage can help supported apps or media players, but Android TV does not automatically make every drive or app expandable.
- Keyboards, mice, controllers and other peripherals may work when Google TV supports them.
- A hub can provide a tidier single-cable accessory arrangement.
This is expansion, not a built-in port set. The Plus has no dedicated full-size USB-A port and no built-in Ethernet, unlike the onn 4K Pro. A bus-powered hub may also lack enough power for several attached devices.

Is 16GB enough?
For ordinary Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, live-TV and similar use, 16GB is a useful improvement over the 8GB Chromecast with Google TV. Approximately 11GB was reported as usable, so the advertised capacity is not all available for apps. The extra headroom helps with updates and caches but is not a substitute for a large local-media library.

How it compares with other Google TV choices
| Device | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Standard onn 4K | Basic streaming on a secondary TV when substantially cheaper | Less storage and fewer of the Plus’s wireless, HDR/audio and expansion advantages; verify the local model and price |
| onn 4K Plus | Low-cost 4K Google TV, Cast, Dolby formats and occasional USB-C expansion | No built-in Ethernet or USB-A; hub compatibility varies |
| onn 4K Pro | Ethernet, a full-size USB port, heavier accessory or local-media use, and more premium smart-home features | Costs more than the Plus; see the Walmart onn 4K Pro listing |
| Google TV Streamer | First-party Google hardware, wired networking and broader smart-home integration | $99.99 in the U.S., although it provides 4GB RAM, 32GB storage and built-in Ethernet |
Google identifies the Google TV Streamer as the official next-generation replacement for Chromecast. The onn 4K Plus is better described as a low-cost Chromecast-with-Google-TV alternative, not an official Google successor. Google announcement Google TV comparison Google Store
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Using a USB-C hub safely
Choose a hub known to work with Android TV or Google TV, and do not assume that a random laptop hub will work. Ethernet adapters require a compatible chipset; drives may need a supported filesystem; and some accessories need more power than the box can provide.

- Memory storage capacity: 8 GB
- Start with the original power adapter and confirm the Plus works by itself.
- Connect the hub according to its design, placing it between the device and power source when required.
- Test one accessory at a time.
- If the hub is unstable, try a powered hub or a different Ethernet adapter or drive.
- Check storage and network settings for recognition, and update the device before declaring the port defective.
Do not promise USB 3.x speeds or universal accessory support without testing the exact combination.
Limitations to understand before buying
- There is no built-in wired Ethernet and no dedicated USB-A port.
- USB-C hub support is adapter-dependent, not guaranteed.
- Wi-Fi 6 cannot overcome weak broadband, a distant router or network congestion.
- 4K output does not mean every service or title is available in 4K.
- Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos require compatible television, HDMI chain, sound equipment, app, title and subscription tier.
- Google TV recommendations combine installed services and may require configuration.
- The box is not intended to deliver console-level gaming or guaranteed enthusiast-grade local-media codec and lossless-audio support.
- Walmart stock, pickup inventory and regional pricing can differ from online listings.
Who should buy it?
Choose the Plus when you want the least expensive credible 4K Google TV box, Google Cast, more storage than older Chromecast hardware, and Wi-Fi-based streaming with occasional accessory expansion. It is especially sensible for a bedroom or secondary TV when the current Walmart price remains well below premium alternatives.
Choose the onn 4K Pro if Ethernet, a built-in USB-A port or more demanding local-media and smart-home use matters. Choose the Google TV Streamer if you value first-party Google hardware, 4GB RAM, 32GB storage, built-in Ethernet and Matter/Thread integration enough to pay $99.99.
Buy neither without reconsidering the setup if the television lacks HDMI, guaranteed wired networking is essential but you do not want a hub, or the Plus price approaches those more capable alternatives. Because the product launched in 2025 and 2026 reports show a possible price increase, verify the exact Walmart price and local stock on the day you purchase.
