Fisker entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 2024 and later received court approval for a joint plan of liquidation. Fisker Group Inc. filed on June 17, 2024; Fisker Inc. and other U.S. subsidiaries filed on June 19 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The filings began a court-supervised process that ultimately moved toward winding down the debtor companies rather than a conventional business reorganization.
When did Fisker file for bankruptcy?

Chapter 11 is not the same as an immediate Chapter 7 liquidation. It initially gave Fisker and its affiliates a supervised way to evaluate restructuring and sell assets. The later confirmation of a liquidation plan shows that the cases progressed toward winding down the debtor estates.
Why did Fisker file for bankruptcy?
Fisker said it evaluated its available options and concluded that selling its assets under Chapter 11 was the most viable path. In a company statement quoted by the Associated Press on June 18, 2024, Fisker said: “After evaluating all options for our business, we determined that proceeding with a sale of our assets under Chapter 11 is the most viable path forward for the company.”
That statement explains the chosen legal and financial strategy, but it does not establish a single, independently verified cause for every problem facing the company. The bankruptcy record and contemporaneous reporting instead show a company seeking an organized asset sale while creditors disputed how available money should be distributed.

How large were Fisker’s assets and debts?

Did Fisker go out of business?
The June filings began Chapter 11 cases rather than declaring an instant Chapter 7 shutdown. However, on October 16, 2024, the bankruptcy court confirmed a joint plan of liquidation. That order indicates the debtor estates were being wound down and assets distributed under the plan, rather than continuing as a normally operating automaker through a successful reorganization.
In practical terms, the confirmed liquidation plan is the clearest answer to whether Fisker was continuing as a conventional vehicle manufacturer: the bankruptcy process had moved to liquidation. What does the bankruptcy mean for Fisker Ocean owners?

Parts and service availability
Liquidation can make parts sourcing and authorized service less predictable, but the bankruptcy filings alone do not identify one permanent replacement network.
