Short answer: Xfinity Mobile Care can be worth the cost for an expensive phone, frequent traveler, or anyone who could not easily replace a lost or damaged device. It is usually poor value for an older or inexpensive phone when you have enough savings to self-insure. If you already want Xfinity Mobile Plus, its included Mobile Care Plus may be compelling—but compare the complete Mobile Plus price with Mobile Select, not just the apparent insurance cost.
Xfinity’s current products are Mobile Care (an optional $9–$19-per-month add-on) and Mobile Care Plus (included with eligible Mobile Plus service). Older pages may call the product “Xfinity Mobile Protection Plan” or “XMPP”; those names and references to Asurion are generally outdated. Current protection is administered through Assurant as of August 18, 2026.
What is Xfinity Mobile’s protection plan called now?
Xfinity Mobile Care is the optional, per-device protection product. Mobile Care Plus is the broader protection benefit attached to the newer Mobile Plus plan. Both require active Xfinity Mobile service, and coverage ends when the covered line is deactivated.
Mobile Care Plus can cover eligible phones, tablets, and watches on the account, including qualifying devices bought elsewhere. Mobile Care is purchased separately for each enrolled device.

Coverage does not guarantee a brand-new, identical replacement. The certificate permits a new, refurbished, or recertified device of like kind and quality. Repair method, parts, shipping, and response times can vary by device and location.
How much does it cost?
Mobile Care add-on
Mobile Care generally costs $9–$19 per month per device, before taxes and claim fees. That is approximately $108–$228 for 12 months. At $19 monthly, two years of premiums total about $456 before any deductible.
Mobile Care Plus through Mobile Plus
Mobile Care Plus is included when you have at least one eligible phone on Mobile Plus. The protection is not free in an economic sense: compare Mobile Plus’s full monthly price with Mobile Select and decide whether you also value features such as 4K streaming, annual upgrades, spam-call protection, and coverage for eligible tablets and watches. “Lifetime” protection applies only while qualifying Mobile Plus and active Xfinity Mobile service remain in force.

Taxes may apply, and your exact fee depends on the enrolled device and approved claim type. The $0 screen benefit applies only to an eligible claim performed by an Assurant-authorized repair center when that service is available for your device and location.
Mobile Care claim limit
Mobile Care allows up to three accidental-damage, loss, or theft claims per device during a rolling 12-month period. Mechanical or electrical failure claims have no stated limit while coverage remains active.
Mobile Care Plus aggregate limit
Mobile Care Plus advertises unlimited claims across covered devices, but the certificate limits repairs and replacements to $5,000 per device in any 12-month period. Reaching that aggregate limit ends further repair or replacement benefits for the period and may cause the certificate to be fulfilled or canceled.

Bring-your-own device
For Mobile Care Plus, accidental-damage and loss coverage on devices not purchased new from Xfinity starts on day 31. A phone already damaged, lost, or stolen cannot be insured retroactively. Verify device eligibility, device-group assignment, and the effective date before canceling another policy.
What is excluded?
The official FAQ excludes or limits claims involving:
- Abuse, misuse, or intentional damage
- Cosmetic damage that does not impair function
- Pre-existing conditions
- Unauthorized repairs or modifications
- Manufacturer recalls or damage already covered by a manufacturer warranty
- Certain acts of God and consequential damage
- Setup, installation, data restoration, or similar service requests
“Accidental damage” therefore does not mean every physical problem is automatically approved; the incident must meet the certificate’s definitions and documentation rules.
Is Mobile Care worth it for your phone?
Use the phone’s current replacement or repair cost, not its original retail price. A simple comparison is:

Total protection cost = monthly premium × months enrolled + claim deductible.
Compare that amount with an authorized repair, a quality refurbished replacement, and the cost of being without a phone while service is arranged. A qualifying $0 screen repair can create substantial value after one incident, but only where the authorized service is actually available. A theft or loss claim can still carry a fee of up to $380 for some device groups.

Self-insurance means putting the equivalent $9–$19 monthly premium into an emergency fund. It is financially attractive when your phone is inexpensive, claims are unlikely, and you can replace the device immediately. It is less attractive when a sudden $800–$1,500 replacement would create debt or when loss and theft are realistic risks.

AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss
Apple lists iPhone service fees of $29 for screen or back-glass damage, $99 for other accidental damage, and $149 for theft or loss. The referenced theft-and-loss plan covers up to two such incidents in 12 months and requires Find My to remain enabled. See Apple’s fee table and the theft/loss requirements. Premiums vary by iPhone model and plan version. AppleCare+ offers Apple-authorized service and direct Apple support; Xfinity can be more convenient for mixed-brand households and may cover connected tablets and watches through Mobile Care Plus.

Samsung Care+
Samsung Care+ uses device-specific pricing and support. Samsung describes unlimited accidental-damage repairs under the listed product and up to three lost, stolen, or unrecoverable claims in a consecutive 12-month period for its Theft and Loss product. Published Samsung material places some Theft and Loss pricing around $8–$16 per month, but check the exact Galaxy model and enrollment window; eligibility is generally at purchase or within 60 days. Samsung’s own repair network may be preferable to carrier handling, while Xfinity may cover more device types on one account.
Google Preferred Care
Google’s Preferred Care examples range from $6 monthly for Pixel 9a to $15 monthly for Pixel 9 Pro Fold, with listed two-year prices from $109 to $279. Other accidental-damage fees are model-dependent, and eligible screen-only repairs are listed at $29. Google says accidental-damage coverage starts day one and mechanical/electrical breakdown coverage begins after the Google warranty expires. Confirm whether the exact Pixel plan includes the loss or theft protection you need; Xfinity Mobile Care explicitly covers those risks.
How to file an Xfinity Mobile Care claim
- Start in the Xfinity Mobile Care app, visit fastclaim.com/xfinitymobile, or call 1-855-884-9771.
- For loss or theft, contact Xfinity promptly to suspend the line and reduce unauthorized-use risk.
- Have your IMEI or serial number, purchase receipt, identification, and proof-of-loss or police report available if requested.
- Back up your data. Do not remove Find My or another account lock until instructed, and do not use an unauthorized repair service before approval.
- Follow advanced-replacement shipping and return instructions. The certificate allows Xfinity or Assurant to require credit-card authorization for the replacement device’s retail value and shipping; failing to return the claimed device as directed can trigger that charge.
