The Galaxy S25 Ultra offer advertised as “up to $1,250 in savings” was a U.S. preorder promotion from January 2025, not a current discount. Its maximum combined value added a $900 eligible-phone trade-in, up to $300 in Samsung credit and a further $50 credit reported through a publisher’s promotional link. Only the trade-in directly reduced the phone’s price; the credits were restricted to eligible Samsung purchases.
How the $1,250 headline was calculated
| Part of the offer | Maximum cited value | What it meant |
|---|---|---|
| Eligible trade-in | $900 | Immediate credit toward the phone for qualifying devices during the preorder promotion. |
| Samsung promotional credit | Up to $300 | Restricted Samsung credit, which could be used for eligible storage upgrades, accessories, Samsung Care+ or other qualifying products—not unrestricted cash off the handset. |
| Reservation or referral-related credit | $50 | Droid Life reported that its promotional link could provide this credit, including to some shoppers who had not reserved. That does not establish a universal Samsung offer for every buyer. |
| Maximum advertised value | $1,250 | A combined promotional value, not necessarily $1,250 deducted from the phone at checkout. |
The offer components and launch-period terms were reported by Droid Life on January 22, 2025. The promotion was tied to the S25 Ultra preorder window, with delivery expected by February 7, 2025.
What the phone could actually cost
The S25 Ultra launched at $1,299.99. If a buyer qualified for the maximum $900 trade-in, the simple handset arithmetic was $1,299.99 − $900 = $399.99 before tax and other costs. That does not count Samsung credit as cash off the phone, nor does it include any remaining purchases needed to use that credit.
Taxes, shipping, financing charges if applicable, and any carrier obligations were additional. A higher-storage configuration, accessory, or protection plan could use promotional credit only if eligible; buying something solely to use a credit adds spending, not savings.

Which phones qualified for the $900 trade-in?
The original launch coverage named these models as eligible for the full $900 value during that promotion:
- Galaxy Z Fold6
- Galaxy S24 Ultra
- Galaxy Z Fold5
Other launch-period examples were $750 for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, $700 for the Galaxy Z Flip6 or Galaxy S24+, and $600 for the Galaxy S24. These are historical promotional values, not current estimates. Samsung’s eligible models, condition rules and offer values can change; check the estimate shown for the exact device and purchase before relying on a trade-in amount.

How the original Samsung.com checkout worked
- Open the original preorder offer details and go to Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra purchase page.
- Choose the storage, color and purchase method, then select Trade-in.
- Enter the old phone’s make and model, answer the condition questions accurately, and confirm the value Samsung displays for that device and order.
- Review any Samsung credit separately. Apply it only to eligible storage upgrades or add-ons you actually want.
- Complete the preorder and save the order details and trade-in terms shown at checkout.
- Back up the old phone, remove accounts and device locks, factory-reset it, and prepare it according to Samsung’s instructions.
- Ship the trade-in by the deadline and keep the receipt and tracking information until Samsung confirms acceptance.
The historical deal is over, but Samsung’s current S25 Ultra offers page states that the trade-in device must be sent within 15 days of receiving the qualifying purchase. Its terms warn that a late or ineligible trade-in may result in a chargeback of the anticipated credit; in specified ineligibility circumstances, the chargeback may be reduced by $25. Read the terms attached to the current order, since offers and conditions can change.
How to reduce the risk of a trade-in chargeback
Samsung’s stated trade-in requirements include that the phone powers on and holds a charge, does not shut down unexpectedly, has a functioning display, has no liquid damage, and is not blacklisted. Screen or body damage can disqualify it unless the specific offer allows that damage. Samsung also lists factory reset, removal of personal information and disabled software locks among its requirements. Some devices may require a verified FCC ID.

- Back up anything you need before erasing the phone.
- Remove Google and Samsung accounts, Find My or similar device-lock features, and any enterprise-management lock. A reset alone may not remove account-based protection.
- Photograph the phone from all sides and record its IMEI and working condition before packing it.
- Ship within the stated deadline—Samsung’s cited current terms say within 15 days of receiving the qualifying purchase—and retain tracking proof.
- Do not assume surrendering the phone pays off a carrier installment plan. Samsung says its trade-in does not cancel separate carrier or retailer contracts, balances or obligations.
Samsung’s current terms are on its Galaxy S25 Ultra offers page. Trade-in eligibility is conditional on the device received matching the information and condition supplied at checkout.
Samsung direct or a carrier promotion?
| Factor | Samsung direct | Carrier offer |
|---|---|---|
| How value is delivered | The quoted trade-in credit is shown against the Samsung purchase; promotional Samsung credit may be restricted to eligible purchases. | A large advertised subsidy may arrive as monthly bill credits over a set period. |
| Typical conditions | Accurate condition disclosure, timely shipment and acceptance of the trade-in. | May require an eligible plan, installment financing, a new line or an upgrade. |
| Leaving early | No carrier bill-credit term is inherent in the Samsung preorder calculation, though any separate financing or carrier agreement still applies. | Remaining credits may stop, while the unpaid device balance may become due, depending on the offer terms. |
| What to compare | Net phone price, usable value of Samsung credit, trade-in opportunity cost and any old-phone balance. | Total plan cost over the credit period, fees, device balance and credits you would lose if you leave. |
A carrier can be the better deal for someone already on a qualifying plan, but a larger subsidy alone does not establish lower total cost. Compare the full plan and device costs over the required period with Samsung’s direct price and the amount the old phone could realistically bring from a private sale.

Is the $1,250 offer still available?
No. The original $1,250 offer was a January–February 2025 preorder promotion and has expired. As of August 18, 2026, Samsung’s surfaced S25 Ultra pages show materially different, lower trade-in offers; reported snapshots ranged roughly from $520 to $580 or more, depending on the page and offer. One surfaced product configuration showed a $1,299.99 price for the 256GB model and up to $570 in trade-in value. These are volatile page snapshots, not guaranteed current prices. Check Samsung’s S25 Ultra purchase page and cell-phone offers for live terms. The newer Galaxy S26 family is also listed separately by Samsung, so compare current S25 Ultra availability and discounts with the S26 Ultra before buying.

Who the original deal suited
- Best fit: A shopper who already planned to buy the S25 Ultra and owned a qualifying premium phone worth the full $900 trade-in, especially a listed Fold or S24 Ultra.
- More conditional: Someone able to use Samsung credit on storage or accessories they would otherwise buy, and who preferred an immediate trade-in credit over a long carrier bill-credit arrangement.
- Poor fit: A buyer who would need to purchase unwanted add-ons to use the credit, had a damaged or locked device, could sell privately for more, or still owed a carrier balance they had not accounted for.
