Intel Postponed Innovation 2024 to 2025—But Product Plans Were Unchanged

Intel moved its September 2024 Innovation conference to 2025 without setting a new date. The event change did not, Intel said, delay Arrow Lake or its other announced product plans.

Intel postponed its September 2024 Intel Innovation conference until 2025 as the company responded to a weaker financial outlook and cost-reduction efforts. The move applied to the event, not the product roadmap: Intel said Arrow Lake remained on track for the fourth quarter of 2024. The announcement did not give a replacement date, and Intel Vision 2025 should not be mistaken for a confirmed rescheduling of Innovation.

What Intel postponed

On August 9, 2024, Intel announced that Intel Innovation 2024 would not take place on its planned dates, September 24–25, at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California. The company said it was postponing the event until 2025, without specifying a new date. Thurrott reported the original dates and venue; Tom’s Hardware covered Intel’s announcement.

This was a postponement of one conference, not a cancellation of every Intel event or an announcement that Intel products were delayed.

Why Intel postponed the conference

Intel tied the decision to its financial results, a more difficult-than-expected outlook for the second half of 2024, and efforts to align its cost structure. The company also referred to reviewing how to rebuild sustainable process-technology leadership. Those were the stated business reasons, rather than a claim that a particular product was not ready. Tom’s Hardware reported Intel’s explanation.

  • Next‑Gen Platform Support: Compatible with Intel 800 Series Chipset‑based motherboards with LGA1851 Socket enabling PCIe 5.0/4.0 and high‑speed DDR5 memory (up to 7200 MT/s).
  • High‑Performance Core Configuration: Features up to 24 cores (8 P‑cores + 16 E‑cores) for demanding gaming and creator
  • Ultra‑Fast Boost Clocks: Reaches up to 5.5 GHz max turbo frequency for top‑tier responsiveness and performance

  • Robust Power & Thermal Design: Engineered with 125W base power and 250W max turbo power to sustain high‑intensity

The announcement came amid major cost reductions and layoffs, pressure following losses and a deteriorating business outlook, and reliability and warranty concerns involving some 13th- and 14th-generation Core desktop processors. Those issues form the context for the timing; Intel’s stated rationale focused on its financial outlook and cost structure. Reporting also treated the resources required for a large conference—such as venue, production, staffing, and promotion—as relevant context, not as a separate official explanation.

What Intel planned instead

Intel said it would continue engaging developers and partners through smaller and more targeted activities rather than one large flagship gathering. Its listed alternatives included:

  • Get ultra-efficient with Intel Core Ultra desktop processors that improve both performance and efficiency so your PC can run cooler, quieter, and quicker.
  • Core and Threads 24 cores (8 P-cores plus 16 E-cores) and 24 threads. Integrated Intel Graphics included

  • Compatibility Compatible with Intel 800 series chipset-based motherboards
  • Webinars, hackathons, and meetups around the world.
  • Intel Connection and Intel AI Summit events.
  • Appearances at other industry events.

That approach traded the concentration of a major conference for more focused, distributed outreach. Smaller gatherings can be easier to target and scale, but they may also mean less shared media attention and a more fragmented experience for people following Intel’s technical announcements. Those are implications of the format change, not benefits or drawbacks Intel explicitly promised.

Did the delay affect Arrow Lake or other products?

Intel said the event change did not alter announced product-launch timing or readiness. Arrow Lake desktop processors remained planned for the fourth quarter of 2024, according to Intel’s clarification reported by TweakTown. Speculation that the conference postponement meant Arrow Lake was in trouble was not evidence of a product delay.

Contemporaneous reporting also described Intel’s plans for Core Ultra Series 2 “Lunar Lake” laptop processors, Xeon 6 “Granite Rapids,” and Xeon 6 “Sierra Forest” as unchanged at the time. Lunar Lake was expected to be announced in early September 2024, while Arrow Lake was planned for the fourth quarter. These statements describe Intel’s position when it announced the conference change; they do not guarantee that every product later launched exactly on schedule. Tom’s Hardware reported the products and timing then under discussion.

Why Intel Innovation mattered

Innovation was a developer- and ecosystem-facing conference, not simply a consumer product-launch show. Its audience included developers, analysts, customers, enterprise and data-center professionals, hardware partners, and technology media. Roadmap presentations, technical sessions, demonstrations, hands-on opportunities, and discussions with Intel’s ecosystem were part of its value.

That distinction matters when interpreting the postponement. A smaller event calendar could reduce the visibility and convenience of Intel’s broad technical outreach, even if product launches continued on separate schedules. Innovation was also distinct from the historically prominent Intel Developer Forum, which had a stronger reputation for major platform announcements. Tom’s Hardware discussed the event’s role and audience.

Vision is not established as the postponed Innovation conference under a new name. Intel describes Vision as an event for business managers, technology managers, and senior leaders, while its event page characterizes Innovation as a more technical venue for inspiration and training. The available event materials establish that Vision took place, but do not establish that a directly equivalent “Intel Innovation 2025” conference occurred. Intel’s event page distinguishes Vision from Innovation.
