Deal status: The roughly 45%-off price was reported in March and May 2026, but it is not verified as a current offer. Sony’s latest indexed U.S. listing shows the WH-CH720N at $128, down from a $179.99 MSRP—about 29% off. An older Sony listing showed $99.99, which works out to 44.4% off MSRP. Check the retailer’s live page, seller, condition and checkout total before purchasing.
What the 45% claim means
Phandroid reported the promotion on March 23, 2026, directing readers to Amazon. A similar May 25 article also described a 45%-below-usual price while warning that Amazon pricing and availability could change. Neither report establishes that the offer is still active.
The arithmetic is plausible when $99.99 is compared with Sony’s $179.99 MSRP: that is $80 saved, or 44.4%, commonly rounded to 45%. Sony’s latest indexed U.S. product pages instead show $128, a $51.99 reduction equal to 28.9%.
| Price snapshot | Reference price | Dollar saving | Calculated discount | What it proves |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $128 (latest indexed Sony price) | $179.99 MSRP | $51.99 | 28.9% | Below MSRP, not a current 45% deal |
| $99.99 (older indexed Sony price) | $179.99 MSRP | $80 | 44.4% | Explains the historical 45%-off headline |
MSRP is a manufacturer reference, not necessarily the product’s typical recent street price. Treat any “45% off” label as a comparison with $179.99 unless the retailer shows a different, clearly explained reference price.

What you get with the WH-CH720N
Noise control and app features
- Over-ear wireless headphones with active noise cancellation, Sony’s Integrated Processor V1 and Dual Noise Sensor technology.
- Ambient Sound mode for hearing more of your surroundings.
- Sound Connect app controls, including 20 ambient-sound adjustment levels, Adaptive Sound Control and Focus on Voice.
- Bluetooth multipoint support for switching between two paired devices.
These features are designed to reduce steady background sound such as commuting or office hum. They should not be treated as a promise of silence or as evidence that the headphones match Sony’s flagship WH-1000XM line; Sony’s product pages do not provide independent comparative testing.
Battery, weight and charging
- Sony rates music playback at up to 35 hours with Bluetooth, AAC and DSEE turned off and noise canceling enabled.
- Sony’s product FAQ states up to 50 hours with noise canceling off. Actual endurance varies with settings, volume and use.
- Sony describes the WH-CH720N as its lightest wireless noise-canceling headband.
- Quick-charge behavior and charging details should be checked in the current manual or product page before relying on a particular runtime claim.
Calls, colors and accessories
Sony advertises microphone noise reduction and clearer calls, but that is a manufacturer claim rather than an independent loud-environment microphone test. Black, white and pink versions are listed; a retailer may discount only one color. Confirm the exact model suffix—WH-CH720N/B, WH-CH720N/W or WH-CH720N/P—and check the box contents. A carrying case is not established by the cited product information, so do not assume one is included.

Is it a good buy at different prices?
Around $100
A new unit near $100 from Sony or a reputable authorized seller is compelling for commuters, students, remote workers and streaming listeners who want lightweight over-ear ANC and app controls. It is a value purchase, not a flagship replacement.
At $128
$128 is still below Sony’s listed MSRP, but the saving is approximately 29%, not 45%. At that price, compare the retailer’s return and warranty terms and consider whether a premium model is close enough in price to justify stronger materials or noise reduction for your use.
Above $128
The case weakens as the price rises. Frequent flyers and buyers seeking maximum isolation should look at a higher-tier option such as Sony’s WH-1000XM range. Sony’s indexed WH-1000XM5 page showed $248 versus a $399.99 reference price, but that price is also time-sensitive and the XM5 is a substantially more expensive category.

- Adjustable Ambient Sound mode offers 20 level settings. You’ll be able to listen to your music with incredible sound quality while still hearing sounds like traffic noise, café conversations, and transport announcements.

Who should buy—and who should pass
Buy when these priorities match
- You need over-ear ANC for commuting, studying, office work or everyday travel.
- Low weight and long rated battery life matter more than luxury materials.
- You want Sony’s EQ and ambient-sound controls in an app.
- The live price is near $100 and the listing is new with clear returns and warranty coverage.
Consider another model or category when
- You fly often and need the strongest possible reduction of aircraft or train noise.
- You require premium construction, especially substantial cushions or a travel-focused case.
- You expect independently proven top-tier call quality or audiophile performance.
- You need water or sweat resistance for exercise, compact earbuds, or a wired professional setup.
- The listing is refurbished, renewed, open-box or sold by an unfamiliar marketplace vendor.
- Your fit is uncertain. Glasses, larger ears and clamp sensitivity can change comfort; use a retailer with a practical return window.
Ten checks before clicking Buy
- Open the live product page rather than relying on the old deal article.
- Record the current price and the final checkout total, including shipping and tax.
- Verify that the item is new, not renewed, refurbished, open-box or used.
- Confirm the exact WH-CH720N model number and selected color.
- Check who sells and fulfills it—Sony, an authorized retailer or a marketplace seller.
- Read the warranty terms for that seller and region.
- Check the return window and any restocking or return-shipping fees.
- Look for a coupon, membership, payment-card or account-specific requirement.
- Confirm whether the discount applies to every color or only one variation.
- Save the order page showing price, seller, condition and promised delivery.
Keep software current
Sony’s support page lists firmware version 1.1.4, released December 9, 2025, and Sound Connect software information dated May 25, 2026. App labels and features can change, so use Sony’s current support page for updates and instructions.
Bottom-line buying decision
Buy the WH-CH720N if a new pair is genuinely near $100 and you want affordable, lightweight over-ear ANC from a major brand. At Sony’s indexed $128 price, it remains a reasonable midrange purchase but is not the advertised 45%-off deal. If the retailer cannot clearly verify the price, seller, condition, warranty and returns, wait rather than treating an old headline as a live promotion.
