Visa made its Visa Product Design System (VPDS) publicly available on April 23, 2025, giving designers and developers building Visa-connected experiences access to reusable design components, guidance and framework resources. The system began internally in 2018. Visa says it can help teams build more consistent experiences without starting every interface from scratch, but it has not published an independently measured development-time saving.
What Visa’s Product Design System includes
VPDS brings design and implementation resources together for teams creating Visa-connected digital experiences. The public materials include reusable interface components and patterns, design tokens, typography, color and spacing foundations, content and data-visualization guidance, accessibility guidance, and documentation. Visa also provides Figma design kits and getting-started guides for several implementation options.
- Design resources: Figma kits, design tokens, base elements and guidance for content and data visualization.
- Implementation resources: code snippets and APIs for more than 40 components in the Visa Developer Center.
- Framework coverage: resources for React, Angular, Flutter and Styles (CSS).

Can you use VPDS in a payment app?
Visa says the public release is intended for external designers and developers building Visa-connected experiences, including partners, fintech companies, startups and banks. A team can use the materials to design and implement an interface that follows Visa’s published patterns and brand guidance. The system is a design and development resource; it is not itself a payment-processing service or a substitute for the Visa products, APIs, approvals or other requirements a particular app may need.

Visa’s announcement says the public release is intended to help partners build with the standards, tools and principles used across its global products. The announcement was authored by Robb Nielsen, Visa’s Global Head of Design: Visa’s April 23, 2025 announcement.
Frameworks and accessibility
React, Angular, Flutter and CSS
Visa lists get-started material for React, Angular, Flutter and Styles (CSS), alongside Figma design kits. Its public documentation is organized so users can switch among framework libraries in one place. Visa says older versions remain available on separate sites for internal users, so external users should follow the current public site and its documentation rather than assume every legacy version is part of the public release.

Accessibility claims
Visa states that VPDS components and patterns meet Visa Global Accessibility Requirements (VGAR) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level A and AA. It also describes the assets as responsive, accessible and customizable. These are Visa’s published requirements and claims; the available materials do not establish an independent audit or certification result. Teams remain responsible for checking that their complete product—including customized components, content and user flows—works accessibly.
How VPDS may help teams build faster—and what is not measured
Reusable patterns can reduce the need to design common interface elements from scratch and give teams a shared starting point for design and code. Centralized documentation, changelogs and framework-specific getting-started guides can also make it easier for designers and developers to work from the same reference. Visa says these practices support consistency and help teams move from concept to code.

Visa reports that the system was used in work on Visa Flexible Credential, Visa Payment Passkey and Visa Protect. It says shared components, accessibility standards and documentation helped those products deliver consistent and scalable experiences aligned with Visa’s brand and security requirements. The company has not supplied an independent productivity benchmark or a percentage reduction in development time, so these benefits should be understood as Visa’s qualitative claims, not a guaranteed result for another team.

- Framework fit: confirm that the available React, Angular, Flutter or CSS resources match your application stack and versions.
- Accessibility work: understand Visa’s VGAR and WCAG 2.2 A/AA claims, then evaluate your own implementation and any changes against your accessibility obligations.
- Brand and customization: determine which visual and interaction choices can be customized while preserving the experience your product needs.
- Documentation and maintenance: review the current guides, changelogs and library updates to understand how the system fits your release process.
- Payment integration: separately confirm compatibility with the Visa APIs, services and partner requirements your product will use; a design system does not provide payment functionality by itself.
Visa’s public materials describe VPDS’s capabilities, but do not provide a neutral comparison with competing design systems. The best choice depends on framework coverage, accessibility needs, design governance and the payment services involved.
