On May 18, 2020, the Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA) renamed its ECIAauthorized.com component-search service TrustedParts.com. ECIA said the change introduced a clearer global brand while preserving the service’s accounts, tools and core function: helping buyers find genuine electronic components reported by authorized distributors.
What changed in 2020
ECIA announced that ECIAauthorized.com would operate under the TrustedParts.com name, with a new logo and visual identity. The announcement said existing users did not need to take action: accounts and tools would continue to work, and old bookmarks would redirect to the new site.
The rebrand changed the service’s public identity, not its basic role. TrustedParts.com remains a search and sourcing platform rather than a component manufacturer or a retailer that owns the listed inventory.
Why ECIA chose the TrustedParts.com name
ECIA said “ECIAauthorized.com” could suggest that participation was limited to ECIA-member distributors. The new name was intended to communicate two broader ideas:

ECIA Senior Vice President Victor Meijers described the reasoning this way: “We’ve changed the name to reflect the primary value we bring to the marketplace: we only list genuine components from authorized sources.” That is ECIA’s description of the service’s policy, not an independent audit of every listing.
What TrustedParts.com does
The platform brings together price and availability information from participating authorized distributors so users can locate inventory for a specified electronic component. The official About information identifies purchasing professionals, design engineers and anyone who needs component price or availability data as intended users.

ECIA describes the service as free to users, and says ECIA membership is not required to participate. Distributor documentation covers supplier participation, authorization, data integrations and related requirements.
What it is not
- It is not the component manufacturer.
- It is not the seller of record for every result.
- It is not proof that a part is available at a particular price until the distributor confirms the listing.
- It is not an independent certification that eliminates all counterfeit or fulfillment risk.

How buyers can use the service responsibly
- Search for the exact part. Use the manufacturer part number and, where relevant, package, tolerance, temperature range or other required specifications.
- Compare distributor results. Review the reported price, stock and location information rather than assuming the first result is the best option.
- Check authorization and commercial terms. Confirm that the distributor is authorized for the manufacturer and that the quoted quantity, lead time, warranty, shipping and return terms meet your needs.
- Verify before placing an order. Inventory and prices can change. Obtain final confirmation from the distributor, especially for production quantities or allocation-sensitive parts.
- Document the source. Keep the distributor, date, part number, lot or traceability information and purchase records required by your quality process.
Why the authorized channel matters—and what it does not guarantee
Authorized distribution can provide a clearer chain of custody and manufacturer-backed commercial relationship. ECIA CEO and President David Loftus said, “Sourcing components through the authorized channel is the most effective safeguard against unknowingly introducing counterfeit products into your supply chain.” That statement should be read as ECIA’s risk-reduction claim, not as a guarantee that every procurement problem disappears.
Buyers still need to check the exact listing, distributor identity, documentation, date codes or traceability requirements, and the terms that apply to the order. TrustedParts.com aggregates information; the participating distributor remains responsible for the transaction it accepts.

What the rebrand meant for existing users
According to the May 2020 announcement, existing users could continue using their accounts and tools without migration work. Bookmarks to the former ECIAauthorized.com address were expected to redirect. The practical change was the name and presentation users saw, not a requirement to create a new account.
Limits when evaluating TrustedParts.com
- The launch coverage numbers are dated 2020, and no newer total is established here.
- The service’s authorization and authenticity descriptions come from ECIA and TrustedParts.com’s own materials.
- There is no independent, controlled comparison in the available sources showing that TrustedParts.com is universally better than other aggregators.
