Organizations are considering more Macs, iPhones and iPads because employees often want them, familiar business software runs on them, and Apple provides security and fleet-management frameworks for large deployments. Those are reasons to evaluate Apple—not proof that it is automatically more productive, secure or cheaper. The right choice depends on each organization’s applications, controls, support model and total lifecycle cost.
Why are organizations considering Apple devices?
Employee choice and experience
Apple’s current Apple at Work page says 60% of employees would choose Mac if given the choice. That is an Apple-published claim; its underlying study and methodology should be reviewed before treating it as representative of the entire workforce.
Some employers offer a choice of endpoint because perceived usability and familiarity can affect recruiting, retention and support demand. A choice program still requires standards for approved models, accessories, security settings and help-desk coverage.
Compatibility with everyday work
Apple says Mac, iPhone and iPad support common built-in and third-party business applications, including Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. That can let an organization add Apple hardware without replacing its main collaboration suite. Compatibility must still be tested for specialized line-of-business software, browser-dependent systems, device peripherals, virtualization needs and internal workflows.

Security and privacy controls
Apple’s enterprise materials describe hardware-backed security, data protection, privacy controls, FileVault encryption on Mac, endpoint-security APIs and the ability to lock or erase devices remotely through management. These are capabilities an IT team can configure and monitor; they do not secure a fleet automatically. Identity controls, patching, least privilege, application policy, backups and incident response remain the organization’s responsibility.
A device range for different roles
Mac, iPhone and iPad can be assigned by job requirements rather than as a single universal standard. A field worker may need a managed iPhone, a designer may need a Mac, and a manager may use both. Apple-focused management platforms also address Apple TV, Apple Watch and Vision Pro, although most enterprises should adopt those devices only where a documented business case exists.

Do Macs work with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace?
Yes. Apple states that its devices work with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, so email, documents, meetings and collaboration can remain based on tools employees already use. The practical question is whether every critical workflow works acceptably.
- Identify applications that require Windows-only clients, plug-ins, drivers or macros.
- Test authentication, single sign-on, certificates, VPN and security agents on the intended operating-system versions.
- Check printing, scanners, specialty peripherals and remote-access tools used by each role.
- Define a supported path for exceptions, such as a virtual desktop, web version or retained Windows endpoint.
How does IT deploy Apple devices at scale?
Apple’s deployment model combines Apple Business with a compatible mobile-device or unified-endpoint-management (MDM/UEM) service. Apple describes Automated Device Enrollment as enabling “zero-touch deployment of Apple devices — right out of the box.”

- Prepare ownership and identity. Purchase through an approved channel, associate devices with the organization in Apple Business, and connect identity and enrollment services.
- Connect an MDM or UEM platform. Use the management service to apply configuration profiles, certificates, Wi-Fi and VPN settings, restrictions, compliance rules and approved applications.
- Assign enrollment profiles. Automated Device Enrollment can require management during setup, reducing the need for IT to image each device manually. Apple says its built-in MDM frameworks help businesses deploy apps and configure settings such as Wi-Fi and VPN across a fleet.
- Test the employee handoff. Confirm that activation, sign-in, app installation, network access, security tooling and recovery procedures work before shipping devices directly to users.
- Operate the lifecycle. Keep operating systems and applications current, monitor compliance, provide remote support, and use remote lock or erase when a device is lost or an account is compromised.
Apple’s enterprise resources include Apple Platform Deployment, Apple Business, professional AppleCare support and a partner locator. The exact enrollment experience depends on the chosen identity provider, MDM/UEM product, purchasing route and internal policies.
Are Apple devices more secure or less expensive?
Neither conclusion follows from the existence of Apple’s features alone. FileVault, hardware security, privacy controls, endpoint APIs and remote actions can support a strong control framework, but outcomes depend on configuration, monitoring, user behavior and response processes.

Likewise, Apple’s business pages discuss value and support, but a company should calculate its own total cost rather than assume savings. Include:
- Hardware configuration, purchase discounts, warranties and repair arrangements.
- MDM/UEM, identity, security and application licensing.
- Deployment, help-desk training, repairs, accessories and replacement timing.
- Power, administration and support for mixed Windows, macOS, iOS and iPadOS fleets.
- Productivity assumptions that can be measured with a pilot instead of treated as universal results.
What does the evidence say about enterprise adoption?
Available figures show interest, but they do not establish a current independent market-share number.

| Finding | What it measures | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 91% officially supported iPhone; 89% iPad; 60% Mac | Organizations in a survey of 309 IT professionals conducted in April 2014 | Historical findings from a Jamf-commissioned Dimensional Research survey, published May 2014—not current adoption rates |
| 98% expected significant Apple-device growth over the next three years | Respondent expectations in that 2014 survey | A forecast at the time, not a measured later outcome |
| 60% would choose Mac if given a choice | Apple’s current employee-choice claim | Vendor-published; review the linked underlying methodology before generalizing |
| 91% of surveyed employees in organizations with an employee-choice program felt more productive, positive and valued | Respondents cited in a 2021 Jamf study | Vendor-hosted, program-specific evidence; it does not prove a universal causal effect |
The historical survey is Dimensional Research’s 2014 report. The employee-choice finding appears in Jamf’s white paper. The available material does not provide a current, independent and representative statistic for the share of enterprise endpoints that are Apple devices, so claims that Apple has a precise current enterprise share would overstate the evidence.
What should an organization compare before adopting Apple?
Use a role-by-role pilot and compare Apple with the existing endpoint approach on the same criteria:
| Decision area | Questions to answer |
|---|---|
| Applications and roles | Do required business applications, peripherals and workflows work, and which users genuinely benefit from each device type? |
| Security and compliance | Can the organization enforce encryption, identity, updates, endpoint protection, data-loss controls and audit requirements? |
| Management | Can the current or planned MDM/UEM service enroll, configure, patch, inventory, support and retire the fleet? |
| Employee choice | Will choice improve recruiting or satisfaction enough to justify extra standards, training and support complexity? |
| Lifecycle cost | What is the complete cost of hardware, licenses, support, repairs, power and replacement over the planned life? |
| Interoperability | How will Apple endpoints coexist with Windows systems, directory services, networks, sharing, printing and remote-access tools? |
Apple’s business guidance and enterprise documentation describe the available capabilities. For independent product comparisons, IDC’s 2025–2026 UEM assessment excerpt hosted by Jamf discusses Apple-framework integration and support for Apple device types; Jamf’s own placement in that assessment is a vendor-reported result, not a neutral endorsement: read the excerpt.
