Yann LeCun’s AMI Labs announced a $1.03 billion seed round at a $3.5 billion pre-money valuation. The financing will support multi-year research into AI systems that learn from real-world data, model physical environments and eventually power commercial applications.
What AMI Labs announced
AMI Labs disclosed the financing in March 2026. TechCrunch reported the round at approximately €890 million, while Singapore’s Economic Development Board described the same financing as S$1.31 billion. The valuation is a pre-money figure, meaning it refers to AMI’s valuation before the new capital is added.
This is a seed financing round for fundamental research, not a product-launch announcement. AMI has not published a confirmed launch date, revenue figure, customer count, headcount or model-accuracy result.
Who invested in AMI Labs
The round was co-led by five investors:
- Cathay Innovation
- Greycroft
- Hiro Capital
- HV Capital
- Bezos Expeditions
Reported participants also include Nvidia, Samsung, Sea, Temasek and Toyota Ventures, among others. SBVA separately committed €30 million. Investor participation does not by itself establish a commercial relationship, product endorsement or expected financial return.

Who runs AMI and where it will operate
Yann LeCun is AMI Labs’ chairman and Alexandre LeBrun is its chief executive officer. The company has planned locations in Paris, New York, Montreal and Singapore. The Singapore presence is also reflected in the Economic Development Board’s account of the financing.
What AMI means by “world models”
AMI uses “world models” for systems intended to learn from reality, understand physical environments and reason about how those environments change. Its stated technical direction combines self-supervised learning with Joint Embedding Predictive Architectures (JEPA), an approach associated with predicting useful representations of situations rather than simply generating the next word.
Rank #2
LeBrun told TechCrunch, “My prediction is that ‘world models’ will be the next buzzword.” The label is broad: it describes a research direction, not a single standardized model or product category.
World-model research compared with large language models
| Comparison | AMI’s stated world-model direction | Typical large language model |
|---|---|---|
| Learning objective | Predictive representations of environments, using self-supervised methods such as JEPA | Next-token prediction over language data |
| Grounding | Designed to incorporate real-world data and physical dynamics | Primarily interacts through text, even when connected to other tools or sensors |
| Evaluation | Planned tests with partner data and real-world evaluations | Often assessed first with language and reasoning benchmarks |
| Deployment model | AMI has discussed eventual paid APIs or downloadable and adaptable models, but none is confirmed | Commercial and open models already exist across many providers |
| Time to market | AMI characterizes the work as multi-year fundamental research | Many LLM products are already available, though capabilities vary |
How AMI plans to use the money
Build and test the research platform
AMI says it will develop models, expose them to real data and evaluate them outside a laboratory setting. LeBrun said, “We are developing world models that seek to understand the world, and you can’t do that locked up in a lab. At some point, we need to put the model in a real-world situation with real data and real evaluations.”

Work with an initial disclosed partner
Nabla is the first partner AMI has publicly identified. The announcement does not specify a production deployment, pricing arrangement or performance result from that collaboration.
Pursue Asian industrial proof of concepts
SBVA said its investment is intended to help create proof-of-concept initiatives with robotics and manufacturing companies in Asia. These projects are described as planned initiatives; the sources do not name completed deployments or disclose operating metrics.
Release some code openly
LeBrun said, “We will also make a lot of code open source.” That statement signals an intention to publish software, but it does not specify which components, under what licenses or on what schedule.

There is no confirmed public release date for an AMI world-model product. AMI frames the program as fundamental research whose useful commercial applications may take years. The company has indicated that future offerings could include a paid API or models that customers can download and adapt, but those options remain plans rather than announced products.

What the financing means for readers and businesses
The round gives AMI substantial capital to pursue a research-heavy strategy before committing to a near-term software business. For companies considering a partnership, the relevant milestones are likely to be access to evaluation programs, clarity on data requirements, technical results in physical settings and the terms of any eventual API or model release.
For investors and personal-finance readers, the announced valuation is a private-market financing term, not a publicly traded price and not evidence of future returns. The available announcements provide no revenue, profitability, share-price or performance data with which to value AMI independently.
What remains unknown
- No confirmed product launch date has been published.
- No named benchmark score, model-accuracy statistic or comparative performance result has been disclosed.
- No revenue, customer-count or headcount figure is provided in the announcements.
- The final scope, licensing and timing of planned open-source releases are not specified.
- Details of the Nabla collaboration and the proposed robotics and manufacturing proofs of concept have not been made public.
Bottom line
AMI Labs has raised $1.03 billion to pursue world-model AI built around self-supervised learning, JEPA-style predictive representations and testing in physical environments. The investors and planned industrial partnerships give the project a broad base, but AMI remains a research-stage company: commercial availability, performance and business economics are still undetermined.
