Cologix announced on December 20, 2018, that it had acquired Montreal data-center company COLO•D. Cologix said the deal added 50 MW of hyperscale data-center capacity to its existing Montreal footprint of seven data centers. The announcement did not disclose a purchase price.

What Cologix acquired

COLO•D contributed a Montreal hyperscale data-center campus. In its announcement, Cologix described the addition as 50 MW of hyperscale capacity and said its Montreal presence then covered seven data centers. Those figures describe the companies’ position in 2018, not Cologix’s current facility count or capacity. Cologix’s December 20, 2018 announcement is the controlling source for the transaction details.

Deal detail What the 2018 announcement stated
Announcement date December 20, 2018
Acquired company COLO•D, a Montreal data-center firm
Capacity attributed to COLO•D 50 MW of hyperscale data-center capacity
Cologix Montreal footprint at the time Seven data centers
Purchase price Not disclosed in the announcement

Why the acquisition mattered to Cologix

Combining physical capacity with connectivity

Cologix framed the transaction as an infrastructure-and-connectivity combination. COLO•D supplied hyperscale space and power, while Cologix brought its interconnection platform, network ecosystem and cloud connectivity. The company said the combined offering was intended to give hyperscale customers both data-center capacity and access to cloud and network on-ramps.

Cloud providers named in the announcement

The release said Cologix’s connectivity offering could reach AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform and IBM Cloud, alongside other network options. This is Cologix’s description of the offering at the time; it is not an independent ranking of provider access or performance.

Cologix chairman and CEO Bill Fathers called the deal representative of the company’s commitment to “tethered hyperscale data centers” for the hyperscale-edge and cloud-connectivity markets. His statement describes Cologix’s strategy and should be read as an executive rationale, not as an independently verified market assessment.

What was disclosed about the financial terms?

The 2018 announcement did not state an acquisition price or other financial terms. No valuation can be calculated from the release, and the absence of a figure should not be treated as proof that no financial terms were reported elsewhere.

How the deal fits Cologix’s later Canadian footprint

A December 7, 2023 Cologix update reported a broader Canadian portfolio of 22 data centers, 1,057,000 square feet and 94 MW of power. That snapshot followed additional acquisitions and expansions, including two Cyxtera facilities in Vancouver and Montreal and expansions in Montreal and Toronto. It cannot be attributed to the COLO•D acquisition alone. Cologix’s 2023 Canadian portfolio update provides that later context.
