However, Ram’s published material does not state a single HEMI option surcharge, so there is no defensible dollar figure yet for how much the engine adds to an otherwise identical truck.
The reliable way to find the premium is to configure two 2026 Ram 1500s with the same trim, cab, bed, drivetrain and equipment, then change only the engine. Treat destination charges, incentives and dealer adjustments separately from the engine-option MSRP.
What Ram has confirmed about the returning HEMI
Ram announced on June 5, 2025 that orders were opening for the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 in the 2026 Ram 1500. The U.S. specification is 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque, and the engine uses Ram’s eTorque hybrid system.
Ram brand CEO Tim Kuniskis acknowledged the reversal directly: “Everyone makes mistakes, but how you handle it defines you. Ram screwed up when we dropped the HEMI — we own it and we fixed it.” The company attributed the return to customer feedback and consumer sentiment.

How much does the HEMI add?
The exact premium is not established in Ram’s published sources. Ram’s current 2026 Ram 1500 model page gives starting prices by trim, not engine-specific prices. For example:

Those numbers cannot be subtracted to calculate an engine premium because Tradesman and Big Horn are different trims with different standard equipment. The final price of a HEMI truck can also change with four-wheel drive, cab and bed configuration, packages, destination charges, incentives and dealer pricing.

How to calculate the real HEMI premium
Use a like-for-like comparison rather than comparing two trim starting prices.
- Choose one trim. Keep the trim identical in both builds.
- Match the truck configuration. Use the same cab, bed length, drivetrain and axle ratio.
- Match equipment. Add the same packages, options, destination charge and accessories.
- Change only the engine. Compare the 5.7-liter HEMI with the alternative powertrain in that exact build.
- Record the price type. Label the result as MSRP, window-sticker price or transaction price; incentives and dealer adjustments are not the engine premium.
For a year-over-year comparison, repeat the process with a comparable 2025 truck. A 2026 HEMI price cannot be described as a year-over-year increase without matched 2025 and 2026 builds.
HEMI versus the 3.0-liter Hurricane
The 2026 Ram 1500 lineup also includes the 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo inline-six family. Ram describes the Hurricane high-output version as the higher-output offering. That makes the choice more nuanced than a simple V-8-versus-six-cylinder ranking.

If you want the traditional V-8 sound and response, the HEMI may justify a premium that is not obvious from horsepower alone. If maximum published output or a different powertrain characteristic matters more, compare the exact Hurricane version rather than the entire Hurricane family as one engine.

Towing is configuration-specific
There is no single towing number that applies to every 2026 HEMI Ram 1500. Ram’s 2026 towing and payload guide lists different ratings for 5.7-liter HEMI and 8HP75 automatic configurations depending on axle ratio, cab, bed and two- or four-wheel drive.
Before using towing as a reason to pay for the HEMI, find the guide entry matching your complete truck configuration. A rating from a different cab, bed or axle ratio is not a valid substitute.

How to shop without overstating the premium
When a configurator or dealer provides a HEMI price, ask for the complete window stickers for both builds. Check that the trim, cab, bed, drivetrain, axle ratio, packages and destination charge match. Then show the engine-price difference separately from rebates, financing incentives, trade-in credits and dealer markups.
This method answers the question the published starting prices cannot: how much the HEMI itself costs in the specific Ram 1500 you intend to buy.
