Flextronics acquired the Orbiant Group in two stages, according to a 2015 historical account: it bought 91% of the shares in 2001 and the remaining 9% in 2002. That account does not establish a separate deal or closing behind the phrase “wraps up Orbiant deal.”
What the historical account says happened
The European Trade Union Institute’s 2015 publication The Outsourcing Challenge states that “Flextronics purchased 91% of the shares in the Orbiant Group in 2001, and the remaining 9% in 2002.” Read together, the percentages and dates describe a staged acquisition that reached full ownership by 2002, as reported by that publication. Read the ETUI publication.
The available account does not identify a transaction value, provide detailed deal terms, or establish a distinct closing date for another transaction. It therefore supports the historical ownership timeline, but not a claim that a separate deal recently wrapped up.
What Orbiant did
The same publication describes Orbiant as a group of six companies with 5,400 employees. It says the group handled network maintenance, installation, and servicing of customer equipment. Those figures describe the group historically; they do not establish its present-day structure or headcount.

- From the acclaimed, award-winning author of Alexander Hamilton: here is the essential, endlessly engrossing biography of John D. Rockefeller, Sr.—the Jekyll-and-Hyde of American capitalism.
- In the course of his nearly 98 years, Rockefeller was known as both a rapacious robber baron, whose Standard Oil Company rode roughshod over an industry, and a philanthropist who donated money lavishly to universities and medical centers.
- He was the terror of his competitors, the bogeyman of reformers, the delight of caricaturists—and an utter enigma.
