The 2025 Masters is over: Rory McIlroy won at 11-under 277, beating Justin Rose in a playoff. The tournament ran April 10–13 at Augusta National Golf Club. For a retrospective look at the betting, the key is to keep each price tied to its bookmaker and timing: South Point’s published opening sheet showed Scottie Scheffler at -150 and McIlroy at -140, while an Associated Press report gave BetMGM prices before the final round of McIlroy 9-4 and Bryson DeChambeau 13-5.
Who won the 2025 Masters?
McIlroy finished the tournament at 11-under 277 and beat Justin Rose in a playoff, according to the PGA Tour leaderboard. He earned $4.2 million. The result settled the tournament; the odds below are historical snapshots, not current betting recommendations.
What were the Masters 2025 betting odds?
The two cited odds snapshots refer to different stages of the tournament and different bookmakers. They should not be combined into a single odds line or treated as representative of every sportsbook. Odds may also vary by book, jurisdiction and time.
| Market snapshot | Bookmaker | Published prices |
|---|---|---|
| Opening sheet | South Point | Scottie Scheffler -150; Rory McIlroy -140 |
| Before the final round | BetMGM, as reported by the Associated Press | Rory McIlroy 9-4; Bryson DeChambeau 13-5; Corey Conners 16-1; Ludvig Åberg 40-1; Scottie Scheffler 40-1; Patrick Reed 66-1 |
The South Point figures are from its cited published opening sheet; they are not a universal pre-tournament market. The AP figures are BetMGM prices reported before Sunday’s final round, not opening odds. Keeping the market stage and bookmaker attached to each line is essential when comparing them.

Who were the favorites, and what did the final-round market show?
Opening favorite
On South Point’s published opening sheet, Scheffler was listed at -150 and McIlroy at -140. That supports describing Scheffler as a prominent favorite on that sheet, not claiming he was the favorite at every bookmaker.
Before Sunday’s final round
McIlroy was the BetMGM favorite at 9-4 in the AP’s pre-final-round snapshot, with DeChambeau at 13-5. McIlroy had a two-shot lead at that point. These prices describe the market going into the final round, not the tournament’s opening market or its eventual result.

Which players had the strongest form entering Sunday?
The Masters Round 4 pairing sheet and the PGA Tour leaderboard show how the leading contenders arrived at the final round. Each sequence below is the player’s first three rounds, followed by the 54-hole total:
| Player | Rounds 1–3 | After 54 holes |
|---|---|---|
| Rory McIlroy | 72-66-66 | 204 |
| Bryson DeChambeau | 69-68-69 | 206 |
| Scottie Scheffler | 68-71-72 | 211 |
McIlroy’s two consecutive 66s put him two shots ahead of DeChambeau entering Sunday. Scheffler was seven shots behind McIlroy after three rounds. McIlroy then shot 73 in the final round to finish at 277 and win the playoff against Rose.

This is a useful case study in why a betting comparison needs context rather than a list of names and prices. Three checks make the comparison clearer:
- Identify the timing and bookmaker. South Point’s cited opening sheet and BetMGM’s pre-final-round snapshot are different markets. Record both details alongside any quoted price.
- Identify the market type. An outright win price is not interchangeable with a placement or top-10 market, or a head-to-head matchup. The cited snapshots provide outright prices; they do not establish comparable placement or matchup prices.
- Read the price alongside the player’s position and scoring. McIlroy was at 204 with a two-shot lead before Sunday; DeChambeau was at 206 and Scheffler at 211. Those standings explain the final-round context, but do not by themselves establish whether a price represented value.
In hindsight, McIlroy won after being the pre-final-round favorite in the AP’s BetMGM snapshot. That outcome does not prove that his price was a good bet: a result alone cannot establish expected value, and the cited figures do not provide enough information to calculate it. They also do not establish a sportsbook hold percentage or a dependable tipster record.

What do the field and Masters trends tell us?
The official Masters invitee PDF, qualified as of April 7, 2025, documents the invited field and its eligibility context. Invitation status explains who was in the field; it does not predict how a player will perform.
The available round-by-round evidence supports a specific account of this tournament: McIlroy improved from 72 to two successive 66s and led going into Sunday; DeChambeau was two strokes back; Scheffler stood at 211. The final leaderboard records McIlroy’s 72-66-66-73 total and playoff win over Rose.

Those facts are not a multi-year course-fit trend. No cited figures here establish historical course-fit performance, closing-line value, public betting percentages or tipster win rates. Treating any of those as proven would go beyond the available evidence.
Quick Recap
How should you use historical Masters odds?
- Keep the event year and market stage beside every price; these are 2025 historical prices.
- Name the bookmaker and preserve the quoted odds format rather than blending lines from different sources.
- Separate the market price from the player’s form and leaderboard position; neither guarantees a result or proves value.
- Do not treat a past winner or a historical quote as a recommendation to bet now. If betting, check current odds and rules for your jurisdiction and set limits you can afford.
