Facebook Marketplace problems usually have one of three causes: your account is not eligible or is restricted, Facebook is loading incorrectly, or a Marketplace feature such as messaging, shipping, or listing creation has its own limit. Work through the checks below in order, starting with your profile and account status before reinstalling the app.
1. Confirm that your account can use Marketplace
Marketplace access is not guaranteed for every Facebook account. Meta says access may be limited when you:
- Are below the legal adult age where you live (18 in the United States).
- Live in a location where Marketplace is unavailable.
- Have a new or inactive Facebook account.
- Use an additional Facebook profile instead of your main profile.
- Have violated Facebook’s Terms of Service, Commerce Policies, Community Standards, or another policy.
Marketplace is designed for individual consumers. Business listings may be removed or the business may be blocked from using the feature. See Meta’s eligibility guidance.
Switch to your main profile
Marketplace is unavailable on additional Facebook profiles. Open the profile switcher and select the first, original profile created for your account, which Meta calls your main profile. Details are in Meta’s Marketplace access instructions.

2. Complete age verification if Facebook thinks you are underage
If Facebook has incorrectly identified you as a minor, open Marketplace in the Facebook app and follow the verification prompt. Depending on your country, Meta may request a video selfie or a valid government-issued ID. Access should return after Meta confirms that you are an adult under the laws applicable to your location. There is no universal menu path to start this process manually; the prompt appears inside Marketplace when required. See Meta’s age-verification guidance.
3. Open Marketplace from Facebook’s menu
A saved bookmark or direct link can fail even when Marketplace itself is available. Use the supported entry point:
- Open the Facebook app.
- Open Menu.
- Select Marketplace.
Marketplace is supported in the Facebook app for iPhone and Android. If it is missing, tap See more when that option appears, verify that you are on your main profile, and then check your account for restrictions. Meta recommends this menu route in its Marketplace access article.
4. Check Account Status for a restriction
An account-level restriction can make Marketplace fail while the rest of Facebook continues to work. On Facebook for computer:

- Click your profile picture in the top right.
- Select Help & support.
- Select Account Status.
Account Status can show Community Standards strikes and feature-specific limits. If it offers a review or appeal, use that option. Reinstalling Facebook cannot remove an account restriction. See Meta’s Account Status instructions.
5. Fix a rejected, missing, or capped listing
Understand a rejected listing
The message “There are issues with your product” means Meta did not approve the listing under its Commerce Policies, so other people cannot see it. Prohibited examples include:
- Services such as house cleaning.
- Animals or animal products, except listings from vetted pet-adoption matching services.
- Healthcare products, including thermometers and first-aid kits.
- Recalled products.
- “In search of” posts.
- Lost-and-found posts.
- Jokes, news, or other posts that do not offer a physical product for sale.
Review the reason beside the listing. Delete it if the item is prohibited. If it complies, submit the Marketplace item appeal form linked from Meta’s review instructions and check again after about 24 hours. Sources: listing approval guidance and items that cannot be listed.
Check the monthly listing limits
Meta’s current limits apply per calendar month. A listing counts even if you later delete it; active listings remain active after the reset and do not count against the new month’s allowance.

6. Correct the Marketplace location
Wrong-area results, an empty local feed, or listings from another city can be a location setting rather than a service outage. On Facebook for computer:
- From your Feed, click Marketplace in the left menu.
- Click your current location on the right.
- Enter a town, city, neighborhood, or ZIP/postcode.
- Select the location or choose it on the map.
A new listing also has its own location field. This setting is separate from your Facebook profile’s hometown or address. See Meta’s location instructions.
7. Update Facebook and perform platform-specific troubleshooting
App and device checks
- Install the latest Facebook or Facebook Lite update.
- Confirm a reliable Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection.
- Close and reopen Facebook.
- Restart your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
- If updating does not help, delete and reinstall the app.
Browser checks
On a computer, refresh the page, close and reopen the browser, clear its cache, or try another browser. On a mobile browser, refresh, clear the browser cache, or switch browsers. What clearing data actually clears
“Clear the Facebook cache” is not a universal in-app fix. For browser use, clear the browser cache. Meta’s documented app remedies are updating, restarting, closing and reopening, or reinstalling. The Facebook in-app browser has a separate control: tap a link, tap Options, choose Go to Settings, then tap Clear beside Your Browsing Data. That removes in-app-browser data, not the entire Facebook app. See Meta’s in-app browser settings.

If listings load but messages fail, the problem may be messaging-specific. Meta lists these causes:
- The other person is in a country with different Marketplace access.
- Messaging between your global regions is not allowed.
- You sent too many Marketplace messages in a short period.
- Your Marketplace access was removed.
On Facebook for computer, open Marketplace in the left menu, choose Inbox, then select Selling for buyer conversations or Buying for seller conversations. Filters may include pending offers, accepted offers, pending payment, paid, to be shipped, shipped, and completed. Conversations can also appear in Messenger; a sold listing may have an archived conversation. If you sent many messages quickly, wait—Meta does not publish an exact limit. 9. Check Marketplace modes, shipping eligibility, and report a bug
Turn off Vacation mode
Vacation mode hides a seller’s listings from Marketplace search and prevents buyers from ordering or messaging. On Facebook for computer:

- Click Marketplace in the left menu.
- Click Settings.
- Click Manage vacation mode.
- Turn the toggle off.

Check whether shipping is available to you
Buying with shipping, selling with shipping, and prepaid labels are not available to every user. Meta says shipping-performance features currently operate in the Facebook app for iPhone and Android, and eligibility can depend on location, account status, and performance. A missing shipping or checkout option can therefore be a regional or eligibility limitation, not a technical failure. Sources: shipping performance and selling with shipping.
Report a confirmed technical bug
After eligibility, restrictions, settings, and platform troubleshooting are ruled out, report the issue. On Facebook for computer:
- Click your profile picture in the top right.
- Select Help & support.
- Select Report a problem.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Include the affected Marketplace page or listing, exact error text, device and browser details, and a screenshot or screen recording. On iPhone or Android, Meta says you can shake the phone and follow the reporting prompt. See Report That Something Isn’t Working and Facebook troubleshooting.
