Ask for documentation that applicable work was completed. Audi says its lookup covers customer notifications from the past 15 years; it is a check of those notifications, not a substitute for reviewing the vehicle’s history and condition.
3. Arrange an independent inspection
Have an independent Audi or Volkswagen Group (VAG) specialist inspect the vehicle, scan relevant systems, and explain any stored faults. Ask about warning lights, diagnostic results, repair history, and any concerns with the specific engine, drivetrain, or transmission. A consumer scanner may offer preliminary information, but compatibility and available functions depend on the device and vehicle; it does not replace a pre-purchase inspection. Audi says its technicians use Audi-specific tools, but that does not validate any particular retail scanner.
4. Compare the total cost, not just the asking price
Include scheduled work that is due, inspection findings, likely repair needs, warranty coverage, and access to a qualified specialist when judging what a car will cost you. Keep a repair reserve in your budget instead of using the full amount available for the purchase price.
When Audi Certified Pre-Owned may help
For U.S. buyers, Audi says an eligible Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicle must be five years old or newer, have no more than 60,000 miles, and meet program criteria that include a history report and comprehensive inspection. Audi says CPO cars are sold through U.S. Audi dealers.
