MBDA announced on March 9, 2015 that Dave Armstrong MBE would become MBDA UK Managing Director and Executive Group Director Technical. The appointment took effect on April 1, 2015, when Armstrong succeeded Steve Wadey. It was a historical appointment: Armstrong left MBDA at the end of 2017, and Chris Allam became UK managing director on January 1, 2018.
What MBDA announced
MBDA’s March 9, 2015 announcement, reproduced by SPS Aviation, gave Armstrong two appointments:
- MBDA UK Managing Director
- Executive Group Director Technical, abbreviated in the announcement as “EGD Technical”
Both roles became effective on April 1, 2015. Armstrong replaced Steve Wadey, who left MBDA at the end of March to become QinetiQ’s chief executive.
Armstrong’s responsibilities
Leading MBDA’s UK business
As UK managing director, Armstrong was described as MBDA’s senior representative in the United Kingdom. His remit included leading senior-level relationships with the UK customer—principally the UK defence customer—and with the UK industrial community. That placed the role at the centre of MBDA’s relationships with government, procurement stakeholders and industrial partners; it was not the position of MBDA Group chief executive.

Directing group technical activity
The Executive Group Director Technical role extended beyond the UK business. Armstrong was responsible for MBDA’s technical capability, research and technology investment, and the development of advanced systems and products across the wider MBDA Group.
Armstrong’s background at MBDA
Immediately before the appointment, Armstrong was MBDA’s Group Director Meteor, with wider responsibility for short- and medium-range missile programmes across France, the UK and Italy, according to the appointment notice.

Later industry coverage from ADS Group states that he had worked for MBDA since 1984 and held several senior positions. That longer service history comes from the later report rather than the original March 2015 notice.

Who leads MBDA UK now?
Current status (2026): Dave Armstrong is not MBDA UK’s current managing director. MBDA’s 2026 materials identify Chris Allam as Managing Director, MBDA UK. See the MBDA 2026 modern-slavery statement and the MBDA UK Recognition Awards 2026.
This UK succession is separate from MBDA Group leadership. The company’s announcement that Jean-Brice Dumont would become Group CEO from November 1, 2026 concerns a different position and does not change the Armstrong-to-Allam history of the UK managing-director role: MBDA’s announcement.
