Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAs of August 16, 2026, Verizon’s public BYOD pages do not verify a current $500 gift-card offer. Verizon does support bringing a compatible, unlocked phone, but the current Prepaid BYOD page highlights a $35 activation-fee saving instead. Older Verizon community posts document $500 promotions from 2021–2022; those archived terms do not prove that a 2026 signup qualifies.
Only treat the $500 as real when it appears in your specific Verizon order or written promotion terms. Check the plan, line, port-in, device, registration and service-period requirements before switching.

What Verizon’s current BYOD pages actually show
Verizon defines BYOD (“bring your own device”) as activating a phone, tablet or smartwatch you already own instead of buying one from Verizon. The device can have been purchased from Verizon, another carrier, a manufacturer or a third-party retailer, but it must be unlocked and compatible with Verizon’s network. See Verizon’s BYOD FAQs.
The current Verizon Prepaid BYOD page advertises a $35 saving by waiving the activation fee for an eligible device. It provides an IMEI compatibility check and supports physical-SIM or eSIM activation. That page does not display a $500 gift card.

- Visa Virtual eGift Cards are designed for online use only. Gift Cards are subject to Terms and Conditions: a.co/5bw3qXJ
- When you access your Visa Virtual eGift Card for the first time, you’ll need to register your name, address, phone number, and email address via activationspot.com. These details should also be used as your billing address for online purchases, as many merchants require address verification for purchase authorization.
- This Visa Virtual eGift Card is non-reloadable. No cash or ATM access. Visa Virtual eGift Cards are emailed active.
- Funds do not expire but your Visa Virtual eGift Card has a ‘valid thru’ date (9 years from date of purchase). If funds remain after this date has passed, please call the Toll Free number found on your Visa Virtual eGift Card for a replacement card. A one-time purchase fee applies at the time of checkout.
- This item is not eligible for refund, resale, or return. Available for sale within the United States only. Not available to residents of Puerto Rico, Hawaii, New Mexico, South Dakota, West Virginia and the US Virgin Islands.
Verizon’s general BYOD FAQ says eligible customers may see deals, but sends customers to separate deals and promotions pages rather than promising a fixed reward. Promotion requirements can change or end, and savings may be bill credits rather than a gift card, as Verizon explains in its device-deals FAQs.
Why the $500 headline still appears
Verizon community pages preserve language from older BYOD promotions, including offers associated with 2021 and 2022. Archived discussions mention combinations of a new smartphone line, a port-in, an eligible 4G or 5G phone, a qualifying unlimited postpaid plan and maintaining the line for a specified period. One historical offer described electronic-gift-card delivery in about eight weeks; another referenced a 45-day device-maintenance requirement and a possible $500 chargeback if service was canceled within 12 months.
Those details belong to the particular archived offers, not to a universal Verizon rule in 2026. Examples are preserved at this Verizon community post and this archived rebate discussion. A search result, old article or retailer promise is not evidence that the same promotion is active now.

BYOD eligibility is not reward eligibility
A phone can pass Verizon’s compatibility test and still fail a promotion’s requirements. Before activating, check every item in the offer terms:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Whether the offer is for a new Verizon customer, a new line, an existing line or a particular account type.
- Whether service must be postpaid or prepaid and whether a named plan tier is required.
- Whether you must port a number from a participating competitor.
- Whether the phone must be an eligible 4G LTE or 5G model, unlocked and activated within a stated window.
- How long the line and device must remain active.
- Whether changing plans, canceling, upgrading or starting a device-payment agreement ends the benefit or triggers a chargeback.
- Whether the offer is limited to Verizon.com, stores, authorized retailers or another sales channel.
Do not assume that adding a phone, purchasing a new device, trading in a phone or claiming another promotion can be combined with BYOD. Verizon says each device offer has its own requirements.
How to verify a live $500 offer before signing up
- Start at Verizon’s official plans or BYOD checkout, not an undated article or search snippet.
- Enter the device IMEI or device ID and confirm that the phone is unlocked, compatible and not reported lost or stolen.
- Open the offer details and read the full terms. Identify the qualifying plan, line type, port-in rule, activation deadline, registration process and minimum service period.
- Confirm what you receive: an electronic gift card, account credit, bill credit, prepaid card or another reward. Check delivery timing, claim deadlines, expiration and permitted uses.
- Save screenshots showing the offer, promotion code and terms. Keep the order confirmation, email address used and order number.
- Ask a store or authorized retailer to put any promised promotion in writing before completing activation.
If the $500 does not appear in the actual order or written terms, do not treat it as part of your expected savings.

Device and number-transfer checklist
- Find the phone’s IMEI or device ID.
- Ask the current carrier to unlock the phone if necessary.
- Run Verizon’s compatibility check and resolve any lost, stolen or unsupported-device result.
- Determine whether your phone uses a physical SIM, eSIM or either option.
- Keep your old service active until the Verizon line is working. Verizon warns customers transferring a number not to cancel the old service first; canceling early can interrupt the port.
The current Prepaid activation flow is: enter device information, confirm compatibility, choose a plan, keep your number or select a new one, choose physical SIM or eSIM, select payment and activate. Postpaid promotion checkout may use different plan and port-in rules.
What can cost you the reward later
Promotion credits or rewards can end when eligibility ends. Common triggers include canceling the qualifying line, moving to an ineligible plan, upgrading the device, beginning a device-payment agreement, transferring the line or missing a registration deadline. Verizon’s promotion guidance controls the current offer.
The 45-day and 12-month figures sometimes quoted online came from archived BYOD terms, not a standing 2026 requirement. Use those numbers only if they appear in the terms attached to your own order.

How the $500 claim compares with current incentives
| Incentive | Form | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Historical $500 BYOD promotion | One-time electronic gift card | Whether the specific promotion is still active and its full eligibility terms |
| Switch & Save Discount | Monthly bill reduction | Competitor eligibility and proof-of-bill requirements; see Verizon’s switcher FAQ |
| Prepaid BYOD activation saving | $35 activation-fee saving | Prepaid eligibility and compatible SIM or eSIM; see the Prepaid BYOD page |
| Device or trade-in promotion | Bill credits or device discount | Required phone, plan, trade-in and payment arrangement |
| Verizon Dollars | Rewards currency | Separate eligibility and redemption rules; it is not a BYOD gift card and excludes prepaid service. See the legal terms and FAQs |
Is switching worth it?
Calculate the total cost of the required service, taxes, fees, activation charges and any device payments during the required period. Then compare that cost with the reward’s real value and with staying on your current carrier. A one-time card can be outweighed by a more expensive qualifying plan, while a monthly switcher discount may be worth more over time.
BYOD can also mean giving up a new-phone or trade-in promotion. Do not assume the incentives stack. Choose Verizon only when the specific offer is documented, the holding period fits your plans and the phone and plan meet every condition.
Can the gift card pay your Verizon bill?
Do not assume it can. The particular gift-card terms determine where and how it may be used. A BYOD card is different from Verizon Dollars, and neither should be described as a guaranteed bill credit without the applicable rules.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does bringing an unlocked phone automatically earn $500?
No. BYOD compatibility and promotion eligibility are separate. Verizon’s current public BYOD pages do not promise a fixed $500 reward.
Is the $35 offer the same as the $500 gift card?
No. The $35 amount is a current Prepaid activation-fee saving shown on Verizon’s BYOD page; the $500 language comes from older promotions.
How long did historical $500 promotions take to pay?
One archived promotion cited about eight weeks for an electronic gift card. That timing applies only to that historical offer, not to a current signup.
The Bottom Line
Do not switch to Verizon based on the headline alone. As of August 16, 2026, the public pages reviewed verify BYOD service and a $35 Prepaid activation-fee saving, not a standing $500 gift card. Proceed only when the reward and its complete terms appear in your own Verizon order.
