What was the 39% deal?
Phandroid reported the promotion on April 17, 2024: a Graphite, 128GB Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab S8+ for $549.99, reduced by $350 from its $899.99 original U.S. starting price. That works out to about 38.89%, conventionally rounded to 39%. The report described it as a limited-time Amazon deal; it does not establish that Amazon still sells that configuration at that price. The $899.99 launch price refers to the 128GB Wi-Fi model. It should not be used to calculate a discount on every S8+ listing: Samsung’s U.S. MSRP file listed the 256GB Wi-Fi model at $979.99 and marked the Wi-Fi S8+ EOL. Samsung’s launch announcement · Samsung’s September 2023 MSRP file
Is the deal live in 2026?
There is no verified evidence here that the original new 128GB Wi-Fi model remains available from Amazon for $549.99. A listing that uses the old MSRP to claim “39% off” may be new old stock, open-box, refurbished, used, or marketplace inventory—not the same offer or condition as the 2024 promotion. The device is now an older product rather than a normal current-generation retail tablet.

Before treating any listing as a deal, confirm its exact model, current price, comparison price, condition, seller, stock, included S Pen, warranty, return policy, shipping, and tax at checkout. A percentage off the original launch price is less useful than the price of a comparable unit today.
Which model was discounted?
The historical offer was the U.S. 128GB Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab S8+ in Graphite, model family SM-X800; Samsung’s specification sheet identifies the Graphite 128GB Wi-Fi configuration as SM-X800NZAAXAR. It has no cellular modem. Samsung sold a separate 256GB Wi-Fi variant, and the smaller Galaxy Tab S8 is a different device. Samsung’s U.S. Galaxy Tab S8 series specification sheet
Do not confuse it with the U.S. carrier-oriented 5G S8+ variant, model SM-X808U. A 5G listing needs separate checks for carrier compatibility, lock status, and activation requirements; do not assume it will work with your network just because it is an S8+. Samsung’s T-Mobile 5G datasheet
What the Galaxy Tab S8+ still offers
Its strongest selling points remain the large 12.4-inch Super AMOLED screen and the S Pen. Samsung’s U.S. Wi-Fi specifications list a 2800 × 1752 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, 8GB RAM, 128GB or 256GB storage, and microSD expansion up to 1TB. The listed battery capacity is 10,090mAh; Samsung’s launch materials described video use of up to 15 hours, which is a usage estimate for the original product, not a promise about a used device’s aged battery. - For media and reading: the high-refresh AMOLED display is well suited to streaming, comics, and ebooks.
- For notes and drawing: the S Pen was included in the original retail package, and Samsung Notes supports handwritten work. Verify that a used or refurbished listing actually includes a working pen.
- For storage: microSD expansion can help with locally stored media, but it does not change the internal storage tier.
- For casual productivity: Android multi-window use and Samsung DeX can handle lighter workflows.
What to expect from an older tablet
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was a premium 2022 mobile processor, but the S8+ should not be judged as a current performance leader. It remains a reasonable fit for streaming, web browsing, office apps, ebooks, casual games, notes, drawing, and light multitasking. Newer premium tablets have more recent chipsets and more performance headroom.
Age matters most when buying refurbished or used. Battery capacity in the specification describes a new battery, not the remaining capacity in a four-year-old unit. Screen condition, battery wear, and uncertain remaining software and security support are meaningful trade-offs. No specific future support period should be assumed without current Samsung guidance for the exact region and model.
Can it replace a laptop?
For light-to-moderate work, DeX can provide a desktop-style interface, and a keyboard, mouse, external display, and multi-window apps can make the tablet useful for email, documents, browsing, and travel. Samsung lists DeX support for the S8+ line. Samsung’s specification sheet
DeX is not the same as Windows or macOS. The tablet may be a poor fit if your work depends on specialist desktop software, full browser extensions, complex spreadsheets, professional video editing, development tools, enterprise applications, or sustained heavy multitasking. Add the cost of a keyboard and any hub or charger needed before comparing it with a laptop.

Price references are snapshots, not live quotes. DealNews also reported a $279 refurbished 128GB listing in June 2026, sold through eBay, with an S Pen and one-year Allstate warranty described in the deal listing; it is a historical price signal, not a guaranteed offer. How to inspect a listing before you buy
- Match the model: look for SM-X800 for Wi-Fi or confirm that an SM-X808U 5G unit is compatible with your intended carrier.
- Confirm storage and condition: distinguish 128GB from 256GB and identify whether the unit is new, open-box, renewed, refurbished, or used.
- Verify the S Pen: confirm it is included, genuine, and functional; original retail inclusion does not guarantee a refurbished bundle includes one.
- Inspect the screen: ask about AMOLED burn-in, green tint, dead pixels, touch response, and visible damage.
- Ask about battery and ports: request the seller’s battery assessment or guarantee and check USB-C port condition.
- Check reset and account status: make sure the tablet is factory-reset and removed from the previous owner’s Samsung and Google accounts.
- For cellular models, verify lock and bands: get confirmation that the tablet is unlocked and works with your carrier before purchase.
- Read protection terms: identify who provides the warranty, how long returns last, and whether a restocking fee applies.
- Calculate the total: include shipping, tax, and any needed charger, keyboard cover, case, screen protector, hub, or replacement pen.
When is the Tab S8+ a sensible buy?
A refurbished S8+ in roughly the $300–$400 range can be compelling if the seller provides a meaningful warranty and return window, the screen and battery are in acceptable condition, and the S Pen is included when you need it. That range is a decision guide informed by the cited price snapshots, not a guarantee of current market value. A $549.99 new unit with a full warranty could still suit someone who prizes the AMOLED screen and stylus, but the old 39% calculation alone does not make it a bargain in 2026.
- Consider it if you want a large AMOLED tablet for media, reading, notes, drawing, or light DeX work, and the listing is transparent and protected.
- Compare newer models if a current Galaxy Tab S-series tablet costs only modestly more; a newer processor and lower battery-age risk may be worth the difference. Check actual live pricing before deciding.
- Skip the listing if it hides condition or seller identity, omits the S Pen you need, offers no useful returns, uses the old MSRP to dress up an ordinary used price, or is a carrier-specific 5G model whose compatibility is unclear.
For Samsung’s current tablet range and any official stock that may appear, start with Samsung’s U.S. tablets page. The S8+ is listed as EOL in Samsung’s September 2023 U.S. MSRP documentation, so do not assume direct new stock or a particular support horizon.
