Yes, the $1,500-off Galaxy Z Fold 6 headline was based on real 2024 promotions—but it did not mean every buyer got $1,500 off the phone. The biggest savings required a high-value eligible trade-in and, depending on the offer, a separate discount or non-cash perks. As of August 18, 2026, the original promotion was not confirmed as active; check Samsung’s live cart before treating any old deal price as available.
What the $1,500 headline actually meant
“$1,500 off” was a maximum promotional-value figure, not a guaranteed price cut for every shopper. A deal’s value can combine different things, and they do not all reduce what you pay at checkout in the same way:
- Instant discount: Reduces the phone’s purchase price directly.
- Trade-in credit: Depends on the exact device, its condition, and the promotion. You give up the phone to receive the credit.
- Gift card or Samsung credit: May be useful, but it is not necessarily cash off the phone.
- Storage upgrade or Samsung Care Plus: Adds a product or service benefit rather than money back.
- Carrier bill credits: May arrive over an installment term and depend on keeping an eligible plan and line active.
That distinction matters: a $1,500 combined-value headline can describe a different deal from $1,500 removed from the listed price. Tom’s Guide’s launch-period analysis described total value that included trade-in and additional benefits, while its preorder coverage reported up to $1,200 in trade-in credit alongside launch perks.
Two different 2024 promotions behind the claim
The headline appeared in coverage of more than one offer. They had different dates and savings mechanics, so their numbers should not be combined into a single standing deal.

| Promotion | Price and discount reported | Other value | What the headline meant |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 launch and preorder period | U.S. launch starting price was about $1,899 for 256GB; Samsung advertised up to $1,200 for an eligible trade-in. | Coverage also counted benefits such as a free storage upgrade, reservation credit, or a year of Samsung Care Plus toward promotional value. | Some coverage described the combined value as approaching $1,500. It was not necessarily $1,500 in cash discount. |
| Black Friday 2024 | A reported $300 discount on certain Samsung online-exclusive colors plus up to $1,200 for an eligible trade-in. | The color restriction and maximum trade-in were part of the reported calculation. | Droid Life reported a $399.99 effective starting price only when the maximum qualifying trade-in and applicable discount stacked. |
The launch price was historical, not a current universal price. Tom’s Guide reported approximately $1,899 for 256GB, $2,019 for 512GB, and $2,259 for 1TB at launch. The Black Friday arithmetic was specific to that promotion; it does not establish that a Fold 6 can be bought for $399.99 now. See Droid Life’s Black Friday breakdown for the reported terms.
Who could receive the maximum trade-in credit?
The “up to” amount depended on trading in a valuable eligible phone under the promotion’s rules. For the Black Friday offer, reported examples included up to $1,200 for a Galaxy Z Fold 5, $1,100 for a Fold 4, and $1,000 for a Fold 3 or Galaxy S23 Ultra. These were historical, promotion-specific values—not current quotes or a promise that every device in that model family qualified for the maximum.
A phone’s condition and the precise offer matter. Samsung’s Fold 6 offer terms state that eligible models and credits can change. Trade-in devices must meet the stated requirements, including applicable condition, ownership, lock-removal, and return rules. Samsung may adjust or charge back a credit if the phone fails inspection or is not returned within the required window.

How to work out your real price
Start with the total you must pay or commit to—not the largest number in the ad. Use this calculation:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Effective cost = phone price − immediate discount − verified trade-in credit + required plan costs + activation or upgrade fees + taxes + accessories − usable gift-card value
Count a gift card only at the value you expect to use, and keep service benefits such as Care Plus separate from cash savings. For a carrier offer, total the payments and required plan costs over the full installment period; bill credits may stop if you leave early or no longer meet the terms.

| Buying situation | How to judge the offer |
|---|---|
| No trade-in | Use the live price for your selected storage and color, less only discounts that appear in the cart. |
| Lower-value trade-in | Subtract the exact quoted credit. Do not use the promotion’s maximum as your estimate. |
| Premium recent trade-in | Compare the quoted credit with the phone’s realistic private-sale value. The trade-in is not automatically a $1,200 gain if you surrender a device you could sell for a similar amount. |
| Damaged trade-in | Use the quote for the actual damage and model. A generic “old or broken phone” claim does not establish that your device receives the maximum. |
| Carrier financing | Add required plan costs and fees across the full term, and account for credits you could lose if you cancel or switch. |
Check the live offer before ordering
- Open Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 upgrade page or offers page.
- Select the exact storage capacity and color you intend to buy.
- Choose the trade-in option and enter your exact phone model and condition.
- Review the credit shown in the cart, the immediate price reduction, and any non-cash benefits separately.
- Read the current trade-in conditions and return deadline, then save the quote and offer terms.
- Compare the final Fold 6 cart total with Samsung’s current U.S. phone offers, which have emphasized newer Galaxy Z Fold models rather than this historic Fold 6 promotion.
Samsung’s pages showed different Fold 6 “from” prices in the August 18, 2026 review of the offer: one upgrade page displayed $1,199.99 before trade-in, while another offers page displayed $1,599.99 before trade-in. Those are page-specific signals, not a single guaranteed price for every configuration or shopper. The configuration and total in your own checkout are the figures to rely on.
When the Fold 6 deal is worth considering
Buy if the checkout price is genuinely compelling
The Fold 6 can make sense if you specifically want its large inner display and Samsung software, have a high-value eligible trade-in, and the final price is materially below the newer Fold model you would otherwise buy. An immediate discount or credit is easier to compare than a headline built around long-term carrier bill credits.

Wait or compare alternatives if the savings are thin
Be cautious if most of the claimed value is a service or storage perk you would not otherwise buy, if you must give up a still-valuable phone, or if the purchase requires an expensive plan. Also check warranty and seller status when considering a marketplace listing: a device may be refurbished, imported, or carrier-locked, and its U.S. warranty coverage may differ from a direct Samsung purchase.
Compare the Fold 6’s final cost with the current-generation Fold offer before deciding. Samsung’s current phone-deals page is the appropriate starting point for that comparison; if the price gap is small, a newer model may be preferable for support longevity. A business trade-in comparison is not a substitute for a consumer checkout quote: Samsung’s business page showed example Fold 6 values around $397, illustrating that ordinary trade-in values can be far below a past promotional maximum, but those business figures do not establish what Samsung will offer a consumer today.
