A template provides the visual layout; the platform hosts the site; the ordering system handles payment, product options, pickup, delivery, or shipping. Those pieces may be bundled, but they are not interchangeable.
For most small local bakeries, Squarespace is a strong starting point for a polished site, while Square Online is worth considering for local orders and existing Square users. Choose Shopify for shipping-heavy sales, Webflow for art-directed design, or WordPress with WooCommerce when you have technical support and need extensibility. The ten options below are template families or platform-based starting points, not ten identical products.
Compare the 10 bakery website template options
| Option | Best for | Ordering fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Squarespace bakery collection | Polished local bakery or pastry shop | Menu, forms, galleries, and light ecommerce; advanced fulfillment may need integrations | Less suited to complex or high-volume commerce |
| Wix Bakery (Warm) | Traditional neighborhood bakery | Menu and ordering features, subject to plan and setup | Layout freedom needs careful mobile review |
| Wix Pastry Shop (Bright) | Dessert, cupcake, and celebration brands | Menu-led presentation; configure commerce separately | Bright styling may not suit an understated bread brand |
| Squarespace restaurant template adapted for a bakery café | Bakery café with meals, events, or seating | Menus, reservations, events, and ecommerce features | Restaurant conventions can distract from bakery orders |
| Square Online storefront | Local pickup and delivery, especially with Square POS | Catalog, payments, pickup, delivery, and shipping options | Less design freedom than specialist design tools |
| Shopify theme | Packaged goods and shipping | Commerce-first catalog, inventory, discounts, and shipping | Apps and setup may be excessive for a small local menu |
| Webflow food or restaurant template | Premium, design-led bakery | CMS and ecommerce are available, with more configuration | Steeper learning curve and technical overhead |
| WordPress theme with WooCommerce | Extensible, content-heavy business with technical support | Commerce depends on WooCommerce configuration and extensions | Owner or provider must maintain hosting, updates, and security |
| Curated multi-platform bakery gallery | Comparing design directions before choosing a platform | Varies by original template and platform | A gallery is inspiration, not an ordering system |
| Minimal bakery landing page | New home baker validating demand | Inquiry or external order link; checkout is optional | Manual communication grows with order volume |

Which template fits your bakery business model?
1. Squarespace bakery collection: best overall for a polished local bakery
Squarespace’s bakery collection is designed for bakeries, cafés, pastry shops, coffee bars, and restaurants. Its official listing describes support for menu pages, product galleries, ecommerce, contact forms, maps, and integrations with ordering, delivery, POS, and social platforms. It is a practical fit when brand presentation and a manageable catalog matter more than intricate fulfillment logic. See Squarespace’s bakery templates.

Use the layout for a concise home page, an HTML menu, product or occasion galleries, catering information, and location details. Squarespace describes templates as customizable structures, so the sample arrangement is not a fixed design. Advanced pickup windows, delivery rules, and custom cake pricing may still require an external service or manual handling.
2. Wix “Bakery (Warm)”: best for a traditional neighborhood bakery
Wix’s café-and-bakery category includes a warm bakery design with a menu-oriented structure. It suits a shop that changes offerings often and wants to tailor colors, typography, photography, and page sections using a visual editor. The template category also highlights ordering, pickup, delivery, and Instagram integration. Browse Wix café and bakery templates.
Before choosing it, identify the Wix plan that actually supports the selling features you need. A website-only plan may not provide checkout. Wix’s restaurant tools are described at Wix Restaurants; verify which functions apply to your region and setup. Review every changed page on a phone: flexible editing can yield inconsistent layouts if sections and text are not checked at mobile sizes.
3. Wix “Pastry Shop (Bright)”: best for colorful dessert brands
Wix lists “Pastry Shop (Bright)” among restaurant and food templates and describes a dedicated menu section. Its colorful, product-forward style can work for cupcakes, macarons, celebration cakes, and seasonal dessert boxes, especially when photography does much of the selling. View Wix restaurant and food templates.

Organize the menu into clear categories such as cakes, cookies, and seasonal products, then give each category a direct order or inquiry route. If your brand is artisan bread, restrained pastry, or premium wedding work, adjust the colors and visual treatment rather than assuming the bright demo is a fit. Checkout and ordering depend on the selected plan and configuration.
4. Squarespace restaurant template adapted for a bakery café
A bakery café serving coffee, breakfast, lunch, or hosting events needs room for more than a pastry catalog. Squarespace’s restaurant tools describe menus, reservations, event calendars, ecommerce, hours, location, and contact information. That breadth can suit a café, provided the page hierarchy still makes baked goods and ordering easy to find. Explore Squarespace restaurant website features.
Replace restaurant-first conventions—such as dinner menus or reservation emphasis—with bakery-specific paths: “Order pickup,” “View today’s menu,” “Request catering,” or “Ask about a custom cake.” Keep menu content available as readable web text; a downloadable PDF can supplement it, but should not be the only way to see products and prices.
5. Square Online storefront: best for local orders on a small budget
Square Online is an operationally useful choice for local selling, particularly when the bakery already uses Square products or a Square catalog. Square describes website-building, a product catalog, online payments, and fulfillment options including pickup, delivery, and shipping. See Square Online plans and Square’s online-store overview.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIt can simplify the connection between the site and existing payments or point-of-sale workflows. Check whether the current product name and available features in your region match the US pages, and verify payment-processing charges for your own account. A fixed product listing may be awkward for cakes with variable prices, detailed decoration choices, or approval before purchase.
6. Shopify theme: best for packaged goods and shipping
Shopify is the strongest fit here when the website is primarily a store: packaged cookies, shelf-stable goods, baking mixes, gift boxes, subscriptions, or a larger product catalog shipped beyond the local area. Its ecommerce focus aligns with product variants, inventory, shipping, discounts, and repeat purchases. A third-party bakery-builder comparison also recommends Shopify chiefly for businesses shipping packaged products regularly, rather than simple local pickup. Check Shopify’s current plans.
Local pickup and custom-cake requests can be configured, but may require apps or additional workflow design. App fees can raise the total cost, and the official pricing page should be checked for current plan and payment terms before selecting a tier. Do not choose Shopify solely because it is commerce-capable if the actual need is a menu, inquiry form, and occasional local order.
7. Webflow food or restaurant template: best for design-led brands
Webflow suits a premium pastry brand or an agency-led project where precise control of typography, spacing, interactions, responsive layouts, and editorial storytelling matters. Webflow’s template listing includes food-related designs such as “Fine Dining 128”; the bakery listing describes template options, while each individual design’s current features and availability should be confirmed before purchase. Browse Webflow bakery templates.
Rank #3
For a store, Webflow’s official pricing page lists Ecommerce Standard at $29 per month billed yearly, with 500 ecommerce items and a 2% Webflow transaction fee; Plus at $74 per month billed yearly, with 5,000 items and a 0% Webflow transaction fee; and Advanced at $212 per month billed yearly, with 15,000 items and a 0% Webflow transaction fee. Payment processor charges remain separate. These are listed prices from Webflow’s pricing page; confirm current terms before purchase. Webflow pricing.
The visual control comes with a steeper learning curve than a simpler hosted builder. A bakery owner who needs staff to change products and manage orders easily should account for who will maintain the site, CMS, and ecommerce configuration.
8. WordPress bakery theme with WooCommerce: best for extensibility
WordPress can support a highly customized bakery site with a broad theme and plugin ecosystem, while WooCommerce supplies the commerce layer for products, variations, coupons, shipping, and extensions. This makes it a reasonable choice for an established business with technical help, unusual integrations, or a content-heavy marketing plan.
A theme alone does not deliver dependable ordering. A self-hosted WordPress setup also requires hosting, a maintained theme, WooCommerce configuration, payment processing, and any needed pickup or delivery extensions. Security, backups, updates, compatibility, and checkout testing need an owner or provider. WordPress.com is a distinct hosted product; its pricing and features should not be conflated with self-hosted WordPress.org. WordPress.com pricing explains its own plans and payment considerations.

9. Curated multi-platform gallery: best for comparing design directions
A gallery such as SiteBuilderReport’s bakery collection can help you compare visual patterns across platforms: product grids, seasonal promotions, menus, catering sections, and pickup or shipping calls to action. It is a discovery aid, not a builder, platform, or single template. Browse the bakery template gallery.
Once a design direction appeals to you, find the original template listing at its vendor or editor, confirm it is still available, and check what commerce features are included. SiteBuilderReport also maintains a separate bakery-template article at bakery website templates; treat recommendations there as starting points for verification, not a substitute for checking platform capabilities.

10. Minimal landing page: best for a new home baker validating demand
A new home baker may need a credible online presence before investing in full ecommerce. Start with one strong product image, the bakery name and service area, a short description, a small featured selection, ordering lead time, pickup or delivery information, and one clear action: “See the menu” or “Request a custom order.” A home-bakery guide likewise favors a simple structure centered on identity, image, and a primary menu or ordering call to action. Read the home-bakery website guide.
This approach is especially useful for cakes and event desserts that need a conversation before the price is known. Its limitation is manual work: inquiries, payment, and availability will not be automated unless you add those systems. Move to checkout when repeat questions and payment coordination become a meaningful operational burden.
Choose by what customers actually order
- Home bakery: Begin with a landing page or a simple Squarespace or Wix site if orders are inquiry-led. Add checkout only for products with stable prices and availability.
- Retail storefront or artisan bread shop: Prioritize a readable current menu, hours, map, pickup rules, and seasonal availability. Square Online is worth considering for local ordering; Squarespace or Wix can lead when presentation is the bigger priority.
- Bakery café: Adapt a restaurant layout to show food and drink menus, hours, location, events, and the path to order baked goods.
- Custom cake studio or wedding baker: Give galleries and inquiry forms priority over a rigid catalog. Collect event date, serving count, flavors, decoration notes, budget range, pickup or delivery needs, and reference images if your form supports uploads. Quote and confirm availability before taking a final payment.
- Packaged-goods or shipped-product brand: Favor Shopify or a well-supported WooCommerce setup when variants, shipping, inventory, subscriptions, and fulfillment are central.
- Multi-location or wholesale business: Plan for location-specific menus, hours, ordering rules, and staff access. A simple template can be the front end, but confirm that the platform or connected systems can manage multiple locations and wholesale terms.
What a bakery homepage and menu need to communicate
Make the next step obvious
Put the bakery name, service area or location, concise value proposition, and one primary action above or near the first screen. The action should match the business: “Order pickup,” “Request a custom cake,” “View today’s menu,” or “Visit us.” Include hours, contact details, map link, and social links where customers can find them without hunting.
Make menu information useful without a PDF
Use an HTML menu with categories, current prices, concise descriptions, and a relevant order or inquiry link beside each category. Add allergen and dietary information, seasonal availability, preorder deadlines, and sold-out status where applicable. A printable PDF can be useful, but an image or PDF-only menu is harder to browse on a phone, search, and update quickly.
Design for mobile browsing
Many customers arrive from a social post or map listing on a phone. Check menu readability, tap-target size, map and address links, gallery loading, form usability, checkout completion, and whether popups cover product details. Compress images, add descriptive alt text, and keep the first screen focused; large images and animation can make a page feel slow.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check the ordering workflow before choosing the template
A button labeled “Order” does not establish that the website can take payment or enforce the rules your bakery needs. Map the complete customer path, from product choice to confirmation, before buying a plan or theme.
- For pickup: Decide whether customers choose time slots or fixed pickup days, how much preparation time each product needs, and how orders close before a cutoff.
- For delivery: Define delivery zones, fees, minimums, service days, and who is responsible for fulfillment. Confirm that the platform can enforce those rules rather than merely display them.
- For custom work: Capture date, size or servings, flavors, design requirements, reference images, and contact details. State that a request is not a confirmed booking until the bakery approves it; describe any deposit and cancellation terms clearly.
- For shipping: Assess shelf life, packaging, shipping rates, geographic restrictions, inventory, tax handling, order emails, damaged-delivery policies, and any subscription needs.
- For seasonal sales: Make it possible to change availability, hide sold-out products, pause orders, and publish holiday cutoffs without a developer.
Test confirmation emails, refunds or cancellations, and the sold-out experience as well as the customer-facing design. If the template requires an external ordering provider, price and evaluate that provider as part of the system.
Compare platform costs as the cost of selling
A template’s sticker price—or a platform’s advertised monthly rate—is not the full cost of taking orders. Compare the first plan that supports your required checkout and fulfillment against the same set of expenses.
- Platform subscription and billing frequency
- Payment processing and any separate platform transaction fee
- Theme, template, app, plugin, or ordering-service charges
- Domain renewal, delivery tools, and email marketing
- Setup, maintenance, and staff time spent handling orders
Squarespace says applicable costs can include payment-processing rates and Squarespace transaction fees, with charges depending on plan, payment solution, product type, and region. Its help page was updated July 27, 2026. Review Squarespace transaction and processing fees. Square likewise advises checking account and location-specific processing terms. Do not treat a low-cost or free entry as cost-free selling.
For Wix, a third-party 2026 comparison reports that its lowest website tier does not support ecommerce; confirm current plan capabilities and pricing directly before purchase. Check Wix website plans. Prices and payment rates vary by region and may change, so the relevant figure is the live offer for your location and billing term.
Use a consistent test when comparing candidates
Score each candidate from 1 to 5 against the needs that matter to your operation: 5 means built in or exceptionally strong, 3 means workable with setup or integrations, and 1 means a poor fit. Weight ordering and fulfillment at least as heavily as visual fit; an attractive layout cannot repair a checkout that cannot enforce your pickup rules.

Know when to upgrade the website or ordering system
- Inquiry form to paid checkout: Make the change when products have predictable pricing, options, and availability and manual payment follow-up is slowing fulfillment.
- Brochure site to local ecommerce: Upgrade when customers repeatedly need to order and pay before arrival, or staff need a reliable order queue.
- Local pickup to shipping: Move to a shipping-capable commerce setup when packaging, rates, inventory, and order notifications need to be managed consistently beyond your service area.
- One location to multiple locations: Confirm how menus, hours, stock, pickup rules, and staff permissions will differ before adding another storefront.
- Manual to automated fulfillment: Add a stronger commerce system when order volume makes availability errors, missed cutoffs, or repetitive customer messages costly.
Launch checklist for a bakery website
- Choose the platform and selling plan: Identify whether the site is brochure-only, inquiry-led, local checkout, or shipping ecommerce. Confirm the plan includes the required capabilities.
- Connect the domain and business details: Add the bakery’s name, location or service area, hours, contact information, and map link.
- Prepare product content: Use clear photos, current prices, concise descriptions, category names, and allergen or dietary guidance.
- Publish ordering rules: State lead times, pickup days or windows, delivery area and fees, shipping limits, and holiday cutoffs.
- Set up payments and fulfillment: Configure the processor, taxes, notifications, inventory or availability, and any required POS, delivery, app, or plugin connection.
- Review policies and customer support: Explain deposits, cancellations, refunds, damaged shipments, and how customers can contact the bakery.
- Test on a phone: Place a test order or submit a test inquiry; verify menu readability, maps, forms, confirmation emails, and the complete checkout path.
- Check performance and discovery: Compress images, add descriptive alt text, use accurate page titles and location information, and verify social links and analytics.
