Today, USAA directs smartphone users to its official iOS or Android app and Windows users to USAA.com.
What USAA discontinued
The affected product was a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app intended to run across Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 PCs. WindowsLatest reported on April 8, 2018, that the app had stopped functioning on Windows devices and that USAA was ending support. The report also said USAA had previously indicated that the app would receive no further updates, although it does not establish the exact date of that earlier announcement.
A USAA representative, quoted by WindowsLatest, said the company no longer supported its mobile app on Windows phones and was concentrating on platforms used by most members. That explanation is a contemporary statement carried by a secondary report, not a currently available USAA technical bulletin. The report does not document whether every PC and Mobile installation failed at precisely the same time, nor does it describe a single error message or a specific Microsoft Store removal date.

Why a “universal” app mattered
Microsoft promoted UWP as a shared app model for PCs, phones, Xbox, HoloLens and other Windows devices. At its 2016 Build keynote, Microsoft presented USAA as a Windows partner and demonstrated a USAA website sign-in using Windows Hello in Microsoft Edge. That cross-device ambition did not guarantee that a financial institution would continue funding every form factor.
The withdrawal was consistent with the shrinking commercial audience for Windows 10 Mobile and the broader shortage of Windows Phone apps. WindowsLatest framed the decision in that context; that is useful industry interpretation, not proof that USAA disclosed a detailed financial or engineering cause. What Windows users should do now
Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC
- Open a current version of Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Safari or Google Chrome. USAA lists those browsers as supported at its account-protection guidance.
- Type
usaa.comdirectly into the address bar rather than relying on an advertisement or an unfamiliar download page. - Sign in with your USAA Online ID and password, then complete any additional verification requested.
- If USAA does not recognize the computer, follow the registration or temporary-code prompts. USAA says desktop computers, laptops and mobile devices can be registered, and that a different browser or cleared browser data may cause a device to be treated as unrecognized. See the device-recognition FAQ.
Web access is the supported replacement for the discontinued Windows application. It should not be described as feature-for-feature identical to USAA’s mobile app.
Windows 10 Mobile phone
USAA’s current app documentation does not list a Windows Mobile application. Do not depend on the legacy installation for banking. The practical choices are to move the mobile experience to an iOS or Android phone, or to try USAA.com in the phone’s browser only if that browser can securely connect to and correctly display the current site. Contact USAA if sign-in, identity verification or device migration is blocked.

iPhone or Android phone
USAA directs members to Apple’s App Store or Google Play. Its instructions are at USAA’s app-download page, and its current platform information is at USAA Mobile. The reviewed pages confirm iOS and Android availability but do not provide a complete current minimum-operating-system table, so check the requirements shown in the relevant official store.
Security rules for replacing the old app
- Download only from Apple’s App Store or Google Play, and verify that the developer is USAA.
- Do not install APK files, EXE installers, Microsoft Store clones or emulator packages advertised as “USAA for PC.” An old app that still opens is not thereby supported or safe.
- Reach the sign-in page by typing
usaa.comor using a trusted bookmark. Be cautious with links in unsolicited messages and search advertisements. - Never give a caller or texter your password, PIN or one-time verification code. USAA’s account-protection guidance warns about impersonation scams and says it will not request those credentials by phone or text.
- If a device is lost, sold or no longer trusted, use USAA’s documented login and security options or contact support.
For login assistance, USAA lists 800-531-USAA (8722) on its login-options page.

Do not confuse the app shutdown with Windows 10’s end of support
USAA’s decision was made in 2018. Microsoft’s separate Windows 10 PC support deadline was October 14, 2025. Microsoft says Windows 10 PCs continue to function after that date but no longer receive normal technical assistance, feature updates or security fixes. The notice is at Microsoft Support.

Bottom line for former Windows-app users
The old USAA Windows 10 app is not a supported option. On a Windows computer, use USAA.com in a current supported browser. On a phone, install USAA’s official app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Avoid sideloaded software, emulators and unofficial “PC banking app” downloads, and contact USAA directly when verification or migration fails.
