Rad Power Bikes filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on December 15, 2025, while seeking a buyer. The sale has since been completed: Life EV acquired the Rad brand and specified assets on February 27, 2026. The buyer did not take on every obligation of the former company, so the sale does not automatically settle old warranty, service, or creditor claims.
What happened to Rad Power Bikes?
Rad Power Bikes, Inc. filed for Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Washington on December 15, 2025. At the time, a company spokesperson said Rad would continue operating in the ordinary course while it sought a buyer, with a sale targeted in roughly 45–60 days. TechCrunch reported the filing and the company’s statement.
The sale later closed. Life EV says it completed its acquisition of the Rad brand, intellectual property, inventory, and certain operating assets on February 27, 2026, and announced the deal publicly on March 5. The transaction was a court-approved asset sale under section 363 of the Bankruptcy Code—not a continuation of the old company with all of its obligations intact. Life EV’s SEC filing identifies the court sale order date as January 30, 2026, and describes the scope of the purchased assets and assumed liabilities.
Who bought Rad, and what did the sale include?
Life EV acquired the Rad brand and selected assets. Its March 5, 2026 announcement says it plans to continue U.S. retail operations and support customers through certain post-closing programs. Those programs include some gift cards and warranties, but only as provided in the transaction documents.

The SEC filing says Life EV assumed gift-card and certain warranty liabilities expressly identified in the purchase agreement and sale order. It says the buyer did not assume other liabilities or successor liability. That distinction matters: buying the name, inventory, and operating assets does not by itself make the buyer responsible for every debt or promise made by the former company.
How large were the debts in the bankruptcy filing?
Petition-era schedules reported estimated assets of $32.1 million and estimated liabilities of $72.8 million. They also listed $14,226,874.73 in e-bike, spare-parts, and accessory inventory, and a $8,363,749 claim by U.S. Customs and Border Protection for tariffs. Bicycle Retailer and Industry News reported the figures from the filing.
These are historical figures for Rad Power Bikes, Inc. in its bankruptcy case, not a current balance sheet for Life EV or a valuation of the acquired business. A listed claim is also not necessarily a final adjudicated debt.
What should Rad bike owners do about warranties and service?
Start with the purchase date, country, and product, then read the current terms on Rad’s warranty page. The page states that its limited warranty applies to Rad-branded products purchased in the United States or Canada after May 15, 2026. It also says Rad Life Mobility has no obligation to provide warranty or service for products purchased before December 15, 2025, and directs claims or issues for those products to the bankruptcy proof-of-claim process. The case number listed is 25-02183.

The acquisition announcement’s reference to certain warranties should not be read as a promise to honor all warranties from before the bankruptcy. For purchases between the dates covered by the page’s statements, consult the detailed current terms rather than assuming coverage. The warranty page also warns that modifications to electric or hardwired components can void the stated limited warranty.
For product-related concerns, Rad’s contact page lists [email protected]. For a pre-December 15, 2025 purchase, the warranty page points to the bankruptcy claims process; a support inquiry and a bankruptcy claim are not interchangeable.

A safety warning covered in November 2025 concerned certain older Rad batteries—not every Rad battery or every model. TechCrunch reported that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warning involved risks of ignition or explosion, particularly if a battery or harness had been exposed to water and debris. At the time of that report, the CPSC had received reports of 31 fires and 12 incidents involving property damage. Those counts describe reports available then, not the incidence across all Rad batteries.
Check the exact battery models named in the CPSC warning and follow its current instructions. The coverage advised affected owners to stop using the batteries, not to throw them away or take them to an ordinary recycler, and to use a municipal household hazardous-waste collection center. Do not assume a battery is affected—or safe—without checking whether its model is covered.
