Amazon announced Prime Big Deal Days on September 16, 2024: a 48-hour, Prime-member-exclusive event running October 8–9 to kick off holiday shopping. The 2024 sale is over; it was a separate fall event from Prime Day, not a current or upcoming promotion.
When the 2024 event ran
In the United States, Amazon set the event to begin at 12:01 a.m. PDT on October 8, 2024, and end at 11:59 p.m. PDT on October 9. Amazon described the event as 48 hours. Local timing and offer availability varied by market. Amazon’s announcement and its shopping guide give the U.S. schedule.
Participating countries
Amazon listed October 8 starts in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It said Prime members in Japan could shop later in October, with timing described separately. The list reflects Amazon’s stated 2024 markets; it does not mean that products, prices, or terms were identical in every country. Amazon’s event overview has the international details.
What Amazon previewed
Amazon promoted the event as an early holiday sale with deals across electronics, fashion, beauty, toys, home, seasonal products, and everyday essentials. Examples in its announcement included:

- Toys and gifts: products from LEGO, Squishmallows, and Disney.
- Beauty and fashion: examples included Clinique, Too Faced, Florence by Mills, Cider, and Aéropostale.
- Home and hosting: examples included NEST New York, Lenox, and Lodge.
- Everyday essentials: batteries, storage, and pet-care products, including Amazon Basics items.
These were examples Amazon previewed, not a promise that every product from a named brand would be discounted or remain available throughout the event. The announcement also referred to millions of deals; that aggregate claim did not mean every offer was available at once. Amazon’s press announcement lists the examples.
Who could shop, and what membership meant
Amazon described the promotional deals as exclusive to Prime members. Nonmembers could join or, if eligible, start a free trial under Amazon’s applicable terms. Trial availability and eligibility can vary; check the renewal date and cancellation terms before signing up, since a trial may convert to paid membership automatically.

Amazon’s 2024 shopping guide cited U.S. Prime pricing of $14.99 per month or $139 per year. Those are historical figures from 2024, not verified prices for 2026. Check Amazon’s Prime page for current pricing and trial eligibility.
A simple membership break-even check
- Estimate the savings on items you already planned to buy, rather than treating the advertised maximum discounts as typical.
- Compare that estimate with the membership cost that applied to you, including any renewal after a trial.
- Count delivery, streaming, grocery, or other benefits only if you would use them independently of this sale.
- Confirm that the specific item and offer qualify for Prime access before relying on a discount.
A single inexpensive purchase may not offset membership cost. A shopper already using Prime or planning several purchases may value the broader benefits, but the sale alone does not establish that membership is worthwhile for everyone.

Deal timing and shopping alerts
Amazon said new deals would appear as often as every five minutes during select periods. That was not a promise of continuous five-minute updates throughout the full event. Offers could sell out or expire before October 9 ended, and new deals could appear after others disappeared. Prices and inventory also varied by country.
Amazon’s 2024 guide promoted notifications for products saved to a Wish List, added to the Cart, or marked “Save for Later,” as well as Alexa deal notifications. It also pointed shoppers to its Holiday Shop, gift guides, Toys We Love List, Rufus shopping assistant, and Inspire feed. Expired 2024 card promotions
Amazon’s 2024 guide listed sign-up promotions tied to its credit products. They are historical and have expired; they should not be treated as offers available now.

The same guide said eligible Prime cardmembers could receive 10% back or more on select deals through Prime Card Bonus, and advertised 5% back year-round at Amazon.com and Amazon Fresh subject to terms. Those were 2024 descriptions, not confirmation of current rewards. Credit approval was required for the listed sign-up offers; eligibility and other terms applied. A card application is a credit decision, not simply a way to claim a shopping discount. Before applying, review current rewards, APR, fees, eligibility, and promotional terms on the official Prime Visa or Amazon Store Card pages, and consider whether you need the account apart from a one-time offer.

How to check a sale price before buying
A countdown, reference price, or headline discount does not by itself establish that an item is a good value. For any deal, especially electronics, appliances, toys, and marketplace listings, check:
- Whether the model number, size, color, bundle, and included accessories match the product you intended to buy.
- The item’s recent price history and prices for the identical product elsewhere.
- The seller and fulfillment details, especially when the listing is from a third party.
- The final checkout price, including any coupon that must be selected or clipped.
- The delivery date, warranty coverage, and return terms for that specific listing.
These checks matter even when a deal is limited-time: inventory can run out, and the product page may offer different sellers, conditions, or delivery dates.
Why the announcement mattered—and what came later
Amazon framed the event as an early start to holiday shopping. Its timing put a major Prime-exclusive sale ahead of the late-November holiday buying period, while giving shoppers an earlier opportunity to purchase gifts. As an analysis of the format, Prime-only access also gives customers a reason to join or remain subscribed; it is not evidence that membership pays off for every shopper.
The September 2024 announcement described what Amazon planned, not the eventual results. After the event, Amazon characterized it as its biggest October shopping event ever in later event coverage and referenced the result in its Q3 2024 earnings release.
