In the United States, Apple’s estimated out-of-warranty battery service for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max is $119. That is $20 more than the $99 battery-service price reported for the iPhone 15 Pro generation—an increase of about 20.2%. The change was reported in September 2024 and is not a new August 2026 announcement.
Which iPhones cost $119 to service?
The higher fee applies to the Pro models, not the entire iPhone 16 family. Contemporary U.S. pricing reports listed the following amounts:

The $119 figure was reported by Tom’s Guide and other outlets in September 2024, shortly after Apple announced the phones on September 9 and before their September 20 release. Apple has not given a reason for the difference in the cited material. Claims that it is specifically caused by titanium, adhesives, labor, or another design feature are speculation.
What the $119 estimate includes—and what it does not
$119 is a U.S. reference price for standard out-of-warranty battery service, not a guaranteed nationwide invoice. Apple’s repair workflow provides an estimate that can change after inspection.

- Service may be at an Apple Store, an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or by mail.
- Cracked glass, a bent enclosure, liquid damage, a swollen battery, or other faults can require a different assessment.
- Apple may repair the device or use replacement handling depending on the issue and service pathway; a same-day repair or return of the identical handset is not guaranteed.
For the current quote, use Apple’s iPhone battery-service estimator rather than relying on a static 2024 article or a third-party price list.
How AppleCare+ changes the calculation
AppleCare+ can eliminate a separate battery-service charge when the iPhone’s battery capacity has fallen below 80% of its original capacity, subject to the active plan’s terms. Apple states the same threshold in its AppleCare+ U.S. terms.

- “Below 80%” is a specific eligibility test, not a promise that any battery that feels weaker will be replaced at no charge.
- An iPhone showing 85% maximum capacity may have noticeably shorter runtime but generally does not meet the stated threshold.
- “No additional battery-service charge” does not mean AppleCare+ itself is free; it is a paid protection plan.
- Battery-wear coverage is separate from accidental-damage claims. AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss is a different plan and should not be treated as the same coverage.
AppleCare coverage and battery health should be checked before approving paid service. Plan price, enrollment eligibility, and terms depend on the model, purchase date, country, and plan type.
What if the iPhone is still under warranty?
Normal lithium-ion battery aging is not automatically a free repair merely because the phone is less than a year old. A battery or other hardware component that Apple determines to be defective may be handled under the limited warranty or applicable consumer-law rights. Apple’s inspection and the specific warranty terms determine that outcome; do not assume every sub-one-year-old battery qualifies.

How to check the current price and book service
- Open Apple’s iPhone Service and Repair page.
- Select the battery-service option.
- Choose the exact device: iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max.
- Enter the requested location and service details.
- Review the estimated out-of-warranty amount, taxes and available appointment or mail-in options.
- Check AppleCare status and battery health before authorizing a paid repair.
- Confirm whether the appointment is with an Apple Store, an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or mail-in service.
Back up the iPhone before handing it over. Apple or its provider may require security features to be disabled or other preparation steps. Apple says service and replacement parts are guaranteed for 90 days or the remainder of the applicable warranty, whichever is longer (Apple service terms).
Is paying $119 worthwhile?
Repair usually makes sense when
- The phone otherwise works reliably and has no major screen, camera, rear-glass, charging-port, modem, or water damage.
- You expect to keep it for another year or longer.
- The cost is well below the price of a replacement phone and the phone’s current resale value still supports keeping it.
- You want to preserve your existing setup and data, while still making a backup before service.
Replacement or an upgrade may make more sense when
- Several expensive problems exist in addition to the battery.
- The device has severe physical or liquid damage that could prevent ordinary battery service.
- You were already planning to replace the phone and the $119 fee would be followed soon by another purchase.
A new battery will not fix poor cellular reception, thermal problems, background-activity drain, software bugs, charging-port faults, motherboard failures, or camera problems.

Other service choices
Apple Store or Apple mail-in service
This is the most direct route for Apple’s service process, genuine-part handling, and AppleCare integration. Mail-in service can be convenient but leaves you without the phone while it is in transit and inspection.
Apple Authorized Service Provider
Authorized providers offer an official service channel when an Apple Store is inconvenient. Appointment times, parts stock, turnaround, and final estimates vary. Apple’s repair page identifies authorized providers as an in-person option. One current provider listing also shows $119 for these Pro models, but a provider’s listing is not a guarantee for every location: GatorTec service pricing.

Independent repair shop
An independent shop may compete on price or speed, but quality and parts provenance differ. Ask whether the battery is genuine or aftermarket, what warranty is provided, whether diagnostics and battery-health reporting are supported, how water-resistance seals are handled, and how additional damage affects the quote. Do not assume every third-party replacement preserves all Apple software behavior or official service records.
Self-service repair
Self-service is mainly for experienced technicians who have the correct model-specific part, tools, documentation, and lithium-ion battery safety knowledge. Tool, shipping, diagnostic, and failed-repair costs can erase any savings, so casual owners should generally use a professional channel.
Bottom line for iPhone 16 Pro owners
The established U.S. reference price is $119 for out-of-warranty battery service on both the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max—$20 more than the prior Pro generation. Verify the live estimate with Apple because taxes, inspection, location, damage, and availability can change the final amount. If AppleCare+ is active and capacity is below 80%, pursue covered service first; otherwise, an otherwise-healthy phone you plan to keep can still make a $119 battery replacement more economical than replacing the device.
