No confirmed U.S. Paramount+–Peacock merger exists. The headline came from a February 2024 report that Paramount Global and Comcast/NBCUniversal were considering a combined streaming venture. The report described preliminary discussions—not a signed merger, finalized joint venture, launch date, or automatic change for subscribers. As of August 18, 2026, no authoritative announcement confirms that the two services have become one.
What the February 2024 report actually said
A February 18, 2024 article reported that Paramount Global and Comcast, the parent of NBCUniversal and Peacock, were discussing a possible streaming partnership. The report attributed the information to The Wall Street Journal and described a potential combined venture rather than a completed transaction. The original report used “merger” in its headline, but its description covered several possible forms of cooperation.
Those possibilities could have included:
- A discounted bundle that kept Paramount+ and Peacock as separate apps.
- A single interface containing both libraries.
- A jointly owned streaming company.
- Shared technology, billing, advertising, or distribution while the brands remained separate.
- Selective licensing of Paramount content to Peacock, or Peacock/NBCUniversal content to Paramount+.
None of those structures was presented as approved or ready for consumers. “In talks” meant the companies were considering options, not that a transaction was inevitable.
Was Paramount+ merged with Peacock?
No confirmed merger or combined U.S. service has been announced. The available evidence supports preliminary discussions only. There is no verified U.S. launch date, migration plan, unified subscription, or announcement that existing customers automatically receive both services.

It is useful to separate the terms that are often blurred in streaming headlines:
| Term | What it would mean |
|---|---|
| Bundle | Two subscriptions sold together, usually with separate apps and accounts. |
| Aggregation | One interface searches or displays programs from multiple services. |
| Technical integration | Shared billing, infrastructure, or identity systems while brands remain distinct. |
| Content licensing | One company licenses selected programs or films to the other. |
| Joint venture | A jointly owned business created for a defined service or operation. |
| Merger | The relevant companies or assets legally combine under one corporate structure. |
A bundle or licensing deal could therefore happen without Paramount Skydance and Comcast merging as corporations.
What changed at Paramount after the report?
Paramount Global’s corporate identity changed substantially after the 2024 discussions. Paramount Global and Skydance completed their merger on August 7, 2025, creating Paramount Skydance Corporation. The company’s listed businesses include Paramount+, Pluto TV, Paramount Pictures, CBS, Nickelodeon, MTV, and Showtime. Paramount’s merger announcement and its SEC filing document the new structure.

Paramount Skydance also entered an agreement on February 27, 2026, proposing to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. That transaction has faced litigation and delay discussions, including a reported court-ordered pause in July 2026. The transaction filing, Associated Press coverage, and Axios reporting show how much larger Paramount’s strategic agenda has become. Those developments do not prove that a Peacock partnership is active.

Peacock remains part of Comcast’s NBCUniversal media and entertainment operations, according to Comcast’s annual filing. NBCUniversal’s portfolio includes NBC, Universal, Bravo, Peacock, and major sports and event programming. Comcast’s filing identifies Peacock within that business.
In June 2026, Comcast announced plans to separate its cable operations from its media businesses into two public companies. NBCUniversal, including Peacock, was identified with the media company. The AP report describes the planned restructuring. It could influence future partnerships, but it is not evidence that Paramount+ and Peacock have agreed to combine.

Could a combined service still happen?
It remains possible for the companies to revisit a bundle, licensing arrangement, technical integration, or joint venture. The absence of a confirmed deal does not prove discussions can never resume. It does mean readers should treat any future headline as a new development rather than as the completion of the 2024 report.
Why the idea could appeal to both companies
- A broader catalog could make either service feel more valuable and reduce cancellations.
- Shared marketing, technology, distribution, and customer-support costs could improve economics.
- A larger service might have more leverage with device makers, app stores, and distributors.
- Paramount’s entertainment and CBS-related programming could complement NBCUniversal films, series, and sports.
- A joint proposition could give households an alternative to maintaining several separate subscriptions.
These are logical strategic motivations, not confirmed terms or stated objectives of the 2024 discussions.

- Corporate governance: Paramount Skydance and Comcast would need to agree on ownership, control, revenue sharing, and investment.
- Technology: Accounts, apps, billing systems, advertising platforms, data policies, downloads, profiles, and simultaneous-stream limits would need to work together.
- Rights contracts: Film windows, exclusivity agreements, regional licenses, and third-party authentication could prevent every title from appearing in one catalog.
- Sports: Local availability, league agreements, premium tiers, and blackout rules would continue to apply even inside a single app.
- Pricing: A joint product could cannibalize higher-priced plans or create disputes over which company receives subscription and advertising revenue.
- Regulation and cost: A transaction involving major film, television, news, and sports assets could attract antitrust review and require expensive integration work.
- Strategic timing: Paramount’s Skydance merger, its proposed Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition, and Comcast’s planned separation all make the corporate context different from February 2024.
What the international comparison means: SkyShowtime
Paramount and Comcast/NBCUniversal already participate in SkyShowtime, a streaming joint venture available in selected international markets. SkyShowtime is not a U.S. Paramount+–Peacock merger.

International services can use different brands, ownership arrangements, rights packages, pricing, and release windows. A U.S. subscriber should not assume that access to SkyShowtime means access to a combined Paramount+ and Peacock catalog, or that the existence of SkyShowtime confirms a pending U.S. launch.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What would a hypothetical combined catalog include?
A joint product could potentially draw on both companies’ libraries, subject to contracts and territory restrictions.
| Paramount-related possibilities | Peacock/NBCUniversal-related possibilities |
|---|---|
| Paramount Pictures films | NBC programming |
| CBS programming and selected live CBS offerings | Universal films and television |
| Nickelodeon children’s programming | Bravo programming |
| Showtime content | Peacock originals |
| Paramount+ originals | NBCUniversal live sports, news, and events |
| Selected CBS Sports programming where rights permit | Sports and local programming subject to rights and blackouts |
This would not mean “everything from both services” appears permanently in one app. Titles can be restricted by country, licensing window, premium tier, local-station rights, sports blackout, or an existing exclusivity contract.

What current subscribers should do
There is no verified migration instruction, price change, or automatic-access arrangement for Paramount+ or Peacock customers. Make subscription decisions using the services and prices currently offered in your market, not the February 2024 report.
If a future product is announced, check these details before changing plans:
- Whether existing customers are migrated or must create a new account.
- Whether billing remains separate or is consolidated.
- Whether the standalone Paramount+ and Peacock apps continue.
- Which plan includes sports, live channels, downloads, and ad-free viewing.
- Whether local NBC or CBS access varies by market.
- How profiles, parental controls, simultaneous streams, and device limits carry over.
- Whether programs can disappear when licensing agreements expire.
Existing ways to access either service
Readers do not need to wait for a merger to choose between the services or use an available distribution channel.
Quick Recap
- Paramount+ is aimed at viewers seeking Paramount films, CBS-related programming, Nickelodeon, Showtime content, Paramount+ originals, and selected sports.
- Peacock is aimed at viewers seeking NBC, Bravo, Universal programming, Peacock originals, and NBCUniversal sports.
- Prime Video Channels can provide centralized billing for participating channels. Comcast announced Peacock Premium Plus distribution through Prime Video Channels at $16.99 per month or $169.99 per year in an August 28, 2025 announcement; those figures are historical and should not be treated as confirmed August 2026 pricing. See the Comcast announcement for the original terms.
- Xfinity’s NOW TV was described in a May 2024 announcement as including Peacock Premium with live and free-ad-supported channels. Availability, price, and eligibility can change, so verify them before signing up. The announcement coverage describes that offering.
- SkyShowtime is relevant only in supported international markets and is not the U.S. service described by the 2024 rumor.
