Who is the richest person in the world in 2026?
Elon Musk topped Forbes’ annual World’s Billionaires list with an estimated net worth of $839 billion. Forbes published the article on March 10, 2026, using stock prices and exchange rates from March 1, 2026. The ranking therefore describes wealth on that date, not Musk’s current September 2026 estimate.
Forbes calls these figures estimated fortunes. They combine researched values for public and private-company holdings and other assets; they should not be read as money held in a bank account or as immediately liquid wealth.

Forbes 2026 Top 10 billionaires
The following is the order and estimated fortune shown in Forbes’ March 1, 2026 annual snapshot. Dollar amounts are U.S. dollars.
| Rank | Name | Estimated fortune |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Elon Musk | $839 billion |
| 2 | Larry Page | $257 billion |
| 3 | Sergey Brin | $237 billion |
| 4 | Jeff Bezos | $224 billion |
| 5 | Mark Zuckerberg | $222 billion |
| 6 | Larry Ellison | $190 billion |
| 7 | Bernard Arnault & family | $171 billion |
| 8 | Jensen Huang | $154 billion |
| 9 | Warren Buffett | $149 billion |
| 10 | Amancio Ortega | $148 billion |
Forbes labels Bernard Arnault’s entry as “& family,” so it is not directly comparable to an entry identified as one individual without that qualification.
What the full Forbes Top 200 list represents
The Top 200 is the leading section of Forbes’ broader annual ranking. Forbes counted 3,428 billionaires globally in 2026, whose combined estimated wealth reached $20.1 trillion. Compared with 2025, Forbes reported 400 more billionaires and $4 trillion more combined wealth.
Rank #2
Each entry is assigned a country or territory and an industry, alongside a short biographical note. Rank reflects the ordering of estimated fortune on the March 1 snapshot date; it does not measure income, annual investment performance, political influence or the amount someone could raise by selling every asset immediately.

How Forbes’ annual ranking differs from its real-time list
Forbes maintains a separate Real-Time Billionaires ranking. Its September 28, 2026 display showed a different order and different estimates from the March annual snapshot: Musk still led, but Jeff Bezos ranked ahead of Larry Page. That change does not mean the annual list was corrected; it reflects a different measurement date and update system.
| Feature | Annual 2026 list | Forbes real-time tracker |
|---|---|---|
| Valuation date | March 1, 2026 | Changes continuously with the tracker’s updates |
| Publication context | Annual Top 200 article published March 10, 2026 | Live ranking viewed September 28, 2026 |
| Public-company holdings | Annual snapshot basis stated as March 1 prices and exchange rates | Updated every five minutes while markets are open, with a 15-minute stock-price delay |
| Private-company fortunes | Complete annual valuation procedure not fully stated in the cited article | Some fortunes updated daily; major private companies may use industry- or region-specific FactSet indexes when available |
Use the March figures when discussing the 2026 annual Top 200, and label live figures with the date and tracker context. Mixing the two can make a person appear to rise or fall when the apparent change is simply a different valuation date.

It is an estimate, not a liquid-asset statement
Forbes’ number represents an estimate of holdings and other assets after its wealth team researches public and private interests and consults insiders and experts. The available 2026 article does not provide an uncertainty range for each person, so a displayed figure should not be treated as precise to the last billion.
Public share prices can move the ranking quickly
For people whose fortunes are concentrated in listed companies, changes in share prices and exchange rates can alter both the estimated fortune and the rank. That is why a live September view can differ sharply from the March 1 annual table.
Family entries require a qualification
An entry such as “Bernard Arnault & family” groups wealth under Forbes’ family designation. Comparing it with a strictly individual entry requires care because the underlying ownership scope may differ.
What the 2026 figures do—and do not—tell you
- They do show: the relative ordering Forbes calculated on March 1, 2026; the scale of each estimated fortune; and the record size of the global billionaire population and its combined wealth.
- They do not show: current September wealth, spendable cash, annual salary, investment returns, tax paid, or a guaranteed sale value for private-company stakes.
- They should be compared with: the same year, currency and valuation date, while noting whether Forbes lists an individual or a family.
Where to find the remaining Top 200 entries
Forbes’ annual article contains the complete Top 200 with each person’s rank, estimated fortune, country or territory, industry and biographical note. The table above reproduces the first ten because those are the leading entries identified in the published 2026 summary; the annual Forbes page is the authoritative place to consult ranks 11 through 200 and the accompanying classifications.
The Bottom Line
On Forbes’ March 1, 2026 annual snapshot, Elon Musk ranked No. 1 with an estimated $839 billion, while 3,428 billionaires held a combined estimated $20.1 trillion. Treat every figure as date-specific and separate from Forbes’ faster-moving real-time tracker.
