For a new Indian merchant in 2026, Razorpay is the actionable choice—but this is not a like-for-like comparison. “EBS” refers to the legacy E-Billing Solutions business, which later operated through Ingenico ePayments India and Worldline ePayments India. Worldline announced a proposed sale of its Indian payment activities to BillDesk on February 25, 2026, while its India site says existing services are expected to continue. There is no clearly published, current EBS onboarding and pricing path comparable to Razorpay’s public signup and documentation.
Existing EBS merchants should first identify their current contracting entity, dashboard, settlement process and support channel. New businesses should evaluate Razorpay against their payment-method, settlement, compliance and integration requirements rather than relying on archived EBS comparisons.
EBS vs Razorpay at a glance
| Criterion | EBS or successor service | Razorpay |
|---|---|---|
| Current status | Legacy EBS identity; successor entities included Ingenico ePayments India and Worldline ePayments India. Worldline announced a 2026 transaction involving BillDesk. | Active payment platform with current public products and documentation. |
| New-merchant availability | No current public EBS signup route was verified. Existing-account availability must be confirmed with the current provider. | Public signup, pricing and developer onboarding are available. |
| Public pricing | No current official EBS price card was verified. | Standard public signal: 2% per transaction plus applicable GST; custom pricing may be available for higher-volume businesses. |
| Setup and annual fees | Must be checked against the current contract. | Public standard pricing states ₹0 setup and ₹0 annual maintenance charges. |
| API and testing | Current API, credentials and migration route must be confirmed with the successor provider. | REST APIs, test mode, test keys, web and mobile integration paths, webhooks and API documentation. |
| Hosted products | Depends on the current successor contract. | Checkout, Payment Links, Payment Pages, invoices, subscriptions and other products subject to eligibility. |
| Best fit | Existing merchants seeking continuity and a supported successor service. | New implementations and merchants wanting a self-service, documented gateway. |
| Main uncertainty | Current owner, brand, pricing, API support and account migration. | Account eligibility, negotiated rates, settlement terms and payment-method-specific fees. |
The historical corporate lineage is documented in Worldline’s financial statements: Worldline ePayments India financial statements. The 2026 transaction announcement is at Worldline’s investor release, and the current India status appears at Worldline India.
What was EBS Payment Gateway?
EBS originally meant E-Billing Solutions, an Indian online-payment intermediary connecting merchants, customers and banking or card networks. Older plugins, merchant IDs, API references and comparison pages may still call the service “EBS,” even though the business subsequently operated under Ingenico ePayments India and then Worldline ePayments India.

Worldline now markets online-payment products under its current business and has announced the planned transfer of its Indian payment activities to BillDesk. That does not, by itself, prove that every EBS account has moved or that every legacy integration must be replaced. It does mean the EBS label should be treated as historical until the account’s present legal and technical owner is confirmed.
Worldline’s current online-payments offering is described at its India online-payments page. It is sales-led rather than a clearly documented self-service EBS signup.
Is EBS still available to new merchants?
No current public EBS onboarding page, comparable price card or active EBS developer portal was verified. Therefore, do not assume that an old search result, plugin or API hostname represents a product available to new merchants.
If you already have an EBS account
- Check settlement statements, invoices and GST documents for the current legal entity.
- Inspect your dashboard footer, payment-page branding and support email domain.
- Ask whether Worldline, BillDesk or another entity now services the account.
- Request written confirmation of supported payment methods, settlement timing, refunds, disputes and API support.
- Ask whether your merchant ID, certificates, keys and recurring mandates remain valid.
A working legacy checkout is not proof that the underlying integration is supported. Libraries, TLS settings, certificates, callback endpoints and refund functions may be obsolete.

What Razorpay offers today
Razorpay documents website, Android, iOS and server-side integrations, along with hosted products such as Payment Links, Payment Pages, invoices and subscription tools. Its documentation hub is at razorpay.com/docs; API information is available at the API guide and the API reference.
Typical technical flow
- Create or access a merchant account and switch the dashboard to test mode.
- Generate test API keys and keep the secret off browsers and mobile applications.
- Create an order on your server through the REST API.
- Open Checkout or use the selected hosted payment product.
- Verify the payment signature on your server.
- Use webhooks and API queries to reconcile payment status.
- Test captures, failures, refunds, duplicate notifications and delayed confirmations.
- Move to live mode only after replacing test credentials and completing end-to-end checks.
Build fulfillment to be idempotent: a repeated webhook must not create a second order or ship twice. Reconcile gateway transactions with internal orders and bank settlements rather than treating a single browser redirect as final proof of payment.
Pricing and total cost
Razorpay’s public standard-plan signal is 2% per transaction plus applicable GST, with ₹0 setup and ₹0 annual maintenance charges stated for standard usage. Its FAQ states that GST is 18% on the gateway fee, subject to stated exceptions. See Razorpay pricing and the payment FAQ.
Worked illustration
On a ₹1,000 transaction at the published 2% rate, the gateway fee is ₹20. GST at 18% on that fee is ₹3.60, producing an illustrative total deduction of ₹23.60 and approximately ₹976.40 before other adjustments. This is an illustration, not a guaranteed quote: rates can vary by merchant category, payment method, international acceptance, refunds, instant settlement and negotiated enterprise terms.

- A battery that can power through your shift and offline payments let you keep selling, even if your internet is down.
- Accept all major credit and debit cards and pay one simple rate with no hidden fees and no long-term contracts required.
Razorpay says businesses processing more than ₹5 lakh monthly can contact sales for custom pricing. Do not apply the public rate automatically to a high-volume or unusual account.
What to compare beyond the percentage
- Setup, annual or minimum-monthly charges
- Domestic and international card rates
- UPI, wallet, EMI and Pay Later pricing
- GST treatment and invoice format
- Refund, chargeback and settlement fees
- Instant-settlement and currency-conversion charges
- Plugin, agency and migration costs
- Support response commitments
- Failed-payment and conversion costs
Current EBS pricing cannot be verified from an active official public price page. Historical EBS figures should not be reused unless the date, region, merchant category, contract and payment-method breakdown are documented.
Payment methods and eligibility
Razorpay lists cards, UPI, net banking, wallets, EMI, Cardless EMI, Pay Later, Credit Card on UPI and international currencies or methods, subject to availability and account eligibility. Its payment-method documentation notes that limits and availability can vary: payment-method documentation.
For an existing EBS-derived account, verify each required method rather than relying on an old checklist:

- Domestic credit and debit cards
- UPI and UPI AutoPay, if relevant
- Net banking and wallets
- EMI and Pay Later
- International cards and currencies
- Recurring mandates and tokenized cards
International acceptance is not a universal yes-or-no feature. Confirm eligible customer countries, currencies, cross-border fees, foreign-exchange treatment, export documentation and refund handling in writing.
Migration from EBS to Razorpay
Audit the existing integration first
- Record the current API host, integration type and callback URLs.
- Inventory merchant IDs, terminal IDs, keys, certificates and IP allowlists.
- Export transaction, refund, dispute and settlement records.
- Check runtime and TLS compatibility for your CMS, PHP, Node.js, Java, .NET or mobile stack.
- Test paid, failed, timed-out, refunded and duplicate-payment paths.
- Ask the current provider how long old transactions remain refundable and reportable.
No current official EBS API path or universal migration sequence has been established, so do not assume that customer tokens, recurring mandates, refund rights or historical records can be transferred automatically.
Use a staged cutover
- Open and verify the Razorpay account, including KYC and required business policies.
- Implement the new integration in test mode.
- Run parallel reconciliation against your order database and settlement reports.
- Pilot with a limited traffic share or non-critical product.
- Keep the old route available for authorized refunds and support while contracts permit.
- Switch production traffic only after webhook, refund and settlement checks pass.
Settlement, refunds and disputes
Settlement timing is account- and flow-specific. Razorpay documentation describes a domestic post-capture T+2 flow for one API scenario, while its pricing material refers generally to typical T+1 or instant settlement. These are not universal promises. Confirm your exact cycle, weekend treatment, first-settlement hold, reserves, account-change process and whether reports are gross or net of fees and tax. Relevant documentation includes payment API behavior and pricing information.
Test operational edge cases
- Authorized but uncaptured payments
- Customer debited while your order remains failed
- Delayed or repeated webhooks
- Full and partial refunds
- Refunds pending at the bank
- Chargebacks and UPI disputes
- Payment success after the customer closes the browser
- Gateway timeouts with uncertain final status
Razorpay’s FAQ and API documentation describe test mode and refund behavior. Use simulated test transactions; do not treat a real payment as a harmless test.

Which option fits different businesses?
New small or medium business
Razorpay is generally more practical when you need public pricing, documented test keys, hosted links or a standard web/mobile integration.
Ecommerce store with a legacy plugin
Do not switch by merely installing a replacement plugin. Confirm order-status callbacks, refunds, duplicate prevention, security updates and preservation of transaction IDs.
SaaS or subscription business
Verify recurring-card and UPI mandate support, token portability, re-authorization requirements and whether existing subscription IDs survive a provider change. Never promise seamless mandate migration without written confirmation.
High-volume enterprise
Obtain written quotes and service levels from Razorpay and the current successor provider. Negotiate using monthly volume, average ticket, domestic/international mix, refund and chargeback rates, peak traffic, settlement requirements and reserve terms.

Existing EBS merchant
Continuity may be safer if settlement, payment methods and support remain reliable and the successor provides a supported API and security commitment. If ownership, pricing or support is unclear, begin a parallel migration assessment rather than waiting for an outage.
Questions to ask before signing or switching
- Which legal entity will contract, collect funds and answer disputes?
- Which payment methods and currencies are enabled for this exact business category?
- What are the domestic, international, UPI, EMI, refund and chargeback fees?
- What settlement cycle, reserve policy and holiday schedule apply?
- Can old transactions be refunded after cutover, and for how long?
- How are webhooks signed, retried and replayed?
- Can recurring mandates or card tokens be migrated, or must customers re-authorize?
- What support SLA and escalation path apply during a payment incident?
- Are platform, app-store, marketplace or currency-conversion fees charged separately?
- What KYC, prohibited-business and documentation rules could delay approval?
Final verdict
For a new implementation, choose Razorpay between these named options unless a different provider better satisfies your commercial or regulatory requirements. It has an active product, public pricing signal, documented APIs and test/live workflows.
For an existing EBS merchant, do not assume either automatic migration or permanent continuity. Identify whether Worldline, BillDesk or another entity now operates the account, obtain written terms and test a staged replacement if the legacy stack lacks current support. Enterprise, international and recurring-payment decisions should be based on account-specific quotes and migration commitments rather than archived EBS claims or Razorpay’s headline rate alone.
