Yes—but only temporarily and only in mainland China. Apple reduced the official prices of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max by RMB 300 during a limited promotion that ran through December 14, 2025. It was not a permanent global price cut, and Apple’s current China store no longer shows the promotional starting price.
What Apple’s China promotion included
The December 2025 promotion applied to both Pro models sold through Apple’s official mainland-China online channels:
| Model | Original China starting price | Promotional price | Saving |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17 Pro | RMB 8,999 | RMB 8,699 | RMB 300 |
| iPhone 17 Pro Max | RMB 9,999 | RMB 9,699 | RMB 300 |
The price figures and December 14 end date were reported by Gizmochina. The RMB amount is the meaningful comparison; any dollar equivalent depends on the exchange rate and should not be treated as a fixed saving.
It was a China-only promotion
The offer was limited to mainland China. It should not be described as a discount across Asia or as a reduction available in Hong Kong, Japan, India, the United States, or every Apple Store worldwide.

Apple sets prices, taxes, configurations, inventory, and promotions separately by market. For context, Apple’s U.S. store lists the iPhone 17 Pro from $1,099 and the iPhone 17 Pro Max from $1,199 for the 256GB model. Those prices do not reflect the RMB 300 China promotion. Apple’s India launch announcement listed the models from INR 134,900 and INR 149,900 respectively. Regional prices are not directly comparable because duties, taxes, currency movements, and local pricing policies differ.
Regional pricing can also move in opposite directions. Apple raised Japanese iPhone prices in July 2026, according to MacRumors. A temporary reduction in one market therefore says nothing conclusive about prices elsewhere.
Is the RMB 300 discount still available?
No—not according to Apple’s current mainland-China listing. The Apple China store reviewed for this article lists the iPhone 17 Pro family from RMB 8,999, rather than the temporary RMB 8,699 starting price.
The accurate wording is that Apple offered or cut prices in China during a December 2025 promotion. It would be misleading to say that Apple has permanently lowered the iPhone 17 Pro’s price or that the deal is still live.
Why this is not the same as a worldwide MSRP cut
A permanent MSRP reduction changes the standard list price for a product, normally across the relevant sales channels. This event was described as a limited-time promotion with a stated end date.
That distinction matters because buyers may encounter several different kinds of “discount”:

- Official Apple promotion: Apple temporarily reduced the listed China price by RMB 300.
- Retailer subsidy: A third-party seller absorbs part of the cost, often during a shopping campaign.
- Trade-in credit: The effective price falls only after an eligible device is surrendered.
- Carrier promotion: A discount or bill credit may require a new line, an eligible plan, or a trade-in.
- Payment promotion: A bank-card rebate or installment offer may reduce the cost only for qualifying customers.
Some Chinese third-party platforms reportedly offered prices below Apple’s promotional price during selected campaigns. Those subsidies should not be combined with Apple’s RMB 300 figure or presented as Apple’s official price.
What international buyers should consider
Importing a China-market iPhone solely to capture a lower sticker price can create costs or limitations that erase the saving. Before buying, check all of the following:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Model and storage
Confirm whether the advertised price applies to the base iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max configuration. A discount on a higher-storage model does not prove that the base model received the same reduction.
SIM and carrier compatibility
Regional hardware can differ. Apple’s U.S. iPhone 17 Pro purchase information notes eSIM usage, so buyers importing a U.S. model should confirm that their carrier supports eSIM. More generally, verify supported bands, SIM configuration, and local carrier compatibility before purchasing an imported device.
Apple Intelligence availability
Apple’s mainland-China store says Apple Intelligence is currently unavailable on iPhone models purchased in mainland China. Availability can also depend on the user’s Apple Account region. This is a significant consideration for anyone comparing a China-market phone with a domestic-market model.
Warranty and service
Warranty handling, repair availability, and service terms can vary by purchase market. Apple describes iPhone models as “world phones” in its U.S. store, but that does not guarantee identical network support, software availability, or service treatment in every country.

Taxes and import costs
Travel costs, customs duties, tax treatment, payment fees, and possible return or repair expenses can exceed a RMB 300 saving. Compare the total landed cost—not just the price displayed by the foreign Apple Store.
Financing and carrier locks
A low monthly payment is not necessarily a lower purchase price. In the United States, carrier-connected financing can involve lock conditions until the installment plan is paid. Check the total repayment amount, plan requirements, and unlock policy before comparing it with an unlocked phone.

- Check the seller. Confirm that the product is sold directly by Apple or an authorized retailer.
- Identify the price type. Look for conditions involving trade-in, a new carrier line, a payment card, or financing.
- Match the exact configuration. Check model, storage, color, and market version.
- Check the regional Apple Store. Mainland China, the United States, Japan, India, Hong Kong, and other markets have separate storefronts.
- Confirm the promotion dates. A previously reported deal may have expired even if search results still display it.
- Calculate the final cost. Include taxes, shipping, import charges, financing costs, and the value of any trade-in.
Why did China receive the deal?
The available evidence confirms where and when the promotion occurred, but it does not establish a definitive Apple explanation for why mainland China alone received it. Shopping-season timing, local competition, demand, inventory management, and regional strategy are possible explanations, but they should not be stated as confirmed reasons without an Apple attribution.
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max were unveiled in September 2025. The China promotion was reported on December 8 and was scheduled to end on December 14. Those dates establish a short-term sales promotion, not a permanent change to Apple’s international pricing structure.

The headline was based on a real event, but it needs a precise qualifier: Apple temporarily reduced the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max by RMB 300 in mainland China during December 2025. The promotion ended, and Apple’s current China listing starts at RMB 8,999. Buyers elsewhere should compare their own market’s official price, trade-in value, financing terms, carrier conditions, and regional compatibility rather than assume they received the same discount.
