Usually, no. Microsoft Rewards points generally cannot be transferred directly to another person or Microsoft account. Microsoft may allow limited sharing within the same household, depending on your account and region. You may also be able to give someone an eligible third-party gift-card code after redeeming points—but Microsoft and Xbox gift-card redemptions are generally deposited into your own Microsoft account balance.
Microsoft’s current policy and support guidance were checked on August 18, 2026. Rewards catalogs, eligibility rules, and delivery methods can vary by country, region, account, and time.

Can you transfer Microsoft Rewards points?
Microsoft’s Services Agreement says Rewards points are awarded to individual Rewards Accounts and generally cannot be transferred to another person or entity. There is no normal payment-app-style option for sending points to a friend, relative, or another Microsoft account.
Rewards points also are not money. Microsoft says they have no cash value, remain Microsoft’s property, and cannot be exchanged for cash. The program is intended for personal, noncommercial use.

- NO FEES OR EXPIRATION — XBOX Gift Cards never expire and have no service fees, so your balance is ready whenever you are.
Signing in to another person’s account does not transfer ownership of your points. Sharing your password is also unsafe and is not a legitimate gifting method.
What is the household-sharing exception?
Microsoft’s terms reserve the right to permit points sharing within a household, subject to limits. This is a conditional exception—not a guarantee that every family, country, or Rewards dashboard will offer a point-sharing feature.
To check whether your account has an official option:
- Go to the Microsoft Rewards dashboard and sign in to the account holding the points.
- Open the current Rewards or Redeem area.
- Look for a Microsoft-provided household, family, or sharing option.
- Read the eligibility requirements and limits shown in your account before confirming anything.
- If no option appears, contact Microsoft Rewards Support.
Do not assume that household members can automatically combine their balances. Each person generally has an individual Rewards Account. Microsoft’s Services Agreement also limits a household to six Rewards Accounts.

Can you redeem points for a gift card and give it away?
Sometimes, but the reward’s delivery method and terms control the answer. Microsoft says offers vary by country and region, and gift cards may be unavailable at any particular time. Check the live Rewards dashboard rather than relying on an old list of rewards or point prices.
Third-party gift-card codes
A third-party gift-card reward may provide a code or redemption link that another person can use. If so, giving the code away may be possible—but do not treat that as guaranteed. Check:
- Whether the reward produces a code or link rather than account credit
- Whether the code is restricted to your region
- Whether the reward terms tie it to the redeemer’s account
- Whether the merchant imposes additional restrictions
After redeeming, Microsoft says you can generally find an issued code or link through Rewards → Order history → Order Details. The order-tracking guidance explains where to inspect completed rewards.
Microsoft and Xbox gift cards
Microsoft says Microsoft and Xbox gift cards redeemed with Rewards points are deposited directly into the redeemer’s Microsoft account balance as promotional balance. That usually makes them unsuitable for gifting: you do not receive a separate, sendable gift-card code.

Microsoft’s gift-card terms also state that Microsoft account balance is non-transferable to another person or Microsoft account. If your goal is to give someone Microsoft or Xbox credit, buying a separate gift card with money is generally more reliable than redeeming Rewards points.
Other rewards
Do not assume that a digital game, app, subscription, physical item, or other reward can be transferred after redemption. Some rewards may be tied to the account holder or order. Review the specific offer’s terms, recipient details, region, and delivery method before selecting Redeem.
What not to do
Trying to force a transfer can put both the points and the account at risk. Avoid:
- Password sharing: It exposes the account and does not change who owns the points.
- Duplicate or manipulated accounts: Creating accounts to pool or move points can violate program rules.
- VPNs and location masking: Microsoft warns against redeeming outside the account’s registered region or using a VPN.
- Selling or trading points: Points have no cash value under the agreement, and Rewards is for personal, noncommercial use.
- Unofficial transfer services: A third party cannot create a legitimate transfer right that Microsoft’s terms do not provide.
Microsoft may review or suspend accounts and forfeit points for abuse, inaccurate information, automated activity, multiple-country activity, VPN use, or other violations. Do not assume Microsoft Support can manually move points between accounts; the published policy does not establish a general manual-transfer service.

Alternatives to gifting the points
| Your goal | Most practical route | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Give points to a friend | No direct transfer is generally available | Points are tied to the earning account |
| Help someone in your household | Check for Microsoft’s official household-sharing option | Availability and limits vary |
| Give store value | Redeem an eligible third-party gift-card code, if its terms permit | It may be region-locked or account-linked |
| Give Microsoft or Xbox credit | Buy a separate gift card with money | Rewards redemptions usually go directly into your account balance |
| Support a cause | Use an eligible nonprofit option through Give with Bing | This supports a nonprofit, not an individual |
Donating points to charity
You generally cannot send Microsoft Rewards points to a particular person, but Microsoft supports donating points to eligible nonprofit organizations through Give with Bing when that option is available. Microsoft makes a corresponding donation after you redeem points through the program.
This is different from a cash donation. Cash donations use your own payment method and are facilitated separately through Benevity. Availability and participating nonprofits can vary.

“I don’t see a transfer button.”
That is expected for ordinary person-to-person transfers. The general policy does not provide a standard transfer function. Check only for an official household-sharing feature in your dashboard.
“My Microsoft gift card went into my account.”
That is the expected behavior for Microsoft and Xbox gift-card Rewards redemptions. They are generally deposited as promotional balance rather than issued as a transferable code.

“The gift card I want is missing.”
Rewards offers vary by account, country, region, and availability. Microsoft does not guarantee that a particular gift card will remain available or provide a fixed restock timetable.
“My redemption was blocked while traveling.”
Microsoft’s guidance says rewards should be redeemed in the same region where the account was registered and warns against VPN use. A mobile or landline number—not a VoIP number—may be required for verification. Repeated failed phone-verification attempts can result in a 48-hour wait.
“I selected the wrong reward.”
Rewards orders are generally final and cannot simply be canceled, returned, or exchanged. Microsoft’s refund and exchange policy describes limited circumstances, such as a reward becoming unavailable; it is not a general change-of-mind cancellation right.
Before you redeem a reward for someone else
- Confirm that the reward creates a code or link rather than account credit.
- Check the recipient’s country and the reward’s regional restrictions.
- Read the reward and merchant terms.
- Verify the recipient before redeeming.
- Save the order details and delivery information.
- Remember that Rewards points may expire after 12 months without earning activity under Microsoft’s current support guidance.
For redemption instructions, see Microsoft’s guide to redeeming Rewards points.
The bottom line
You normally cannot gift Microsoft Rewards points themselves. A household-sharing feature may be available in limited circumstances, and an eligible third-party gift-card code may sometimes be given to another person. Microsoft and Xbox gift-card redemptions, however, generally become balance in your own Microsoft account. Check the exact reward terms before redeeming, because completed Rewards orders are usually final.
