Wix Payments is worth considering if you already use Wix and want your website, checkout, payouts, refunds, and payment reporting in one place. For US merchants, the standard online card rate is currently 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction, excluding American Express. But that is not the complete cost: your Wix plan, payment method, international sales, currency conversion, refunds, chargebacks, and optional apps can all change the economics.
Wix Payments is less compelling for very low-value transactions, international or multi-currency businesses, high-volume merchants seeking negotiated rates, and retailers that primarily need a sophisticated point-of-sale system. The right choice depends on your average order value, sales channels, customer payment preferences, and tolerance for Wix platform lock-in.

Wix Payments: quick verdict
| Best for | Main strength | Main weakness | US standard online card fee | Payout scheduling | Plan required |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Existing Wix users, freelancers, services, memberships, and small stores | Integrated Wix checkout and unified administration | Not always the lowest-cost or most flexible processor | 2.9% + $0.30, excluding AmEx | Daily, weekly, or monthly scheduling; generally allow 3–5 business days for bank availability | Payments-enabled Premium or Studio plan |
Bottom line: Choose Wix Payments when integration and simplicity matter more than squeezing out the lowest possible processing rate. Compare alternatives carefully if you sell internationally, process many small orders, rely heavily on in-person retail, or have enough volume to negotiate custom pricing.
Wix fees, plan availability, payment methods, payout timing, and eligibility vary by country. The rates below are a US-focused snapshot and should not be treated as a worldwide rate card.

What is Wix Payments?
Wix Payments is Wix’s integrated payment-provider option. It lets eligible merchants accept payments through a Wix website and manage transactions, payouts, refunds, and chargebacks from the Wix environment. Wix describes the service and its setup at Wix Payments.
It is not a free checkout feature and it is not necessarily a single underlying processor in every market. Wix’s Payments Terms state that transactions may be processed through Wix, Adyen, Stripe, PayPal, or affiliated processors depending on the market and arrangement.
Your real cost can therefore include several separate categories:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- The Wix website or ecommerce plan
- Wix Payments’ processing fee
- Payment-method-specific fees
- Cross-border and currency-conversion fees
- Chargeback costs
- Third-party provider fees, where applicable
- Optional Wix tools such as bookings, subscriptions, invoicing, POS, or marketing products
Wix Payments fees in 2026
The following table summarizes Wix’s currently listed US fees. Check the official Wix Payments service-fee page for the current rate applicable to your account and transaction.
| Payment method or channel | Wix-listed US fee | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Credit or debit card, excluding American Express | 2.9% + $0.30 | Standard online card example |
| Apple Pay or Google Pay, excluding American Express | 2.9% + $0.30 | Availability depends on setup and location |
| American Express | 3.7% + $0.30 | Higher percentage rate |
| PayPal or Venmo | 3.49% + $0.49 | Method-specific rate |
| PayPal Pay Later | 4.99% + $0.49 | Higher-cost buy-now-pay-later method |
| Afterpay, Affirm, or Klarna | 6% + $0.30 | BNPL rates are substantially higher than standard cards |
| Wix Payments POS | 2.6% + $0 | Card-present context |
| Tap to Pay | 2.6% + $0.20 | Mobile payment context |
| Manual card entry | 3.5% + $0.30 | Keyed or manually entered card |
| Cross-border transaction | Additional 1.5% | Added to the ordinary payment-method fee where applicable |
| Currency conversion | Additional 1% | Where payment currency differs from the site’s main currency |
These fees can stack. For example, an eligible international transaction paid in a different currency may incur the ordinary card-processing rate plus the cross-border fee and currency-conversion fee. Whether a particular transaction qualifies depends on the account, currencies, location, and payment setup.
How much does a typical Wix Payments transaction cost?
Use this formula:
Processing cost = order value × percentage fee + fixed fee
At the standard US online card rate of 2.9% + $0.30, the approximate cost is:
| Order value | Processing fee | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|
| $20 | $0.88 | 4.40% |
| $50 | $1.75 | 3.50% |
| $100 | $3.20 | 3.20% |
| $500 | $14.80 | 2.96% |
| $1,000 | $29.30 | 2.93% |
The percentage approaches 2.9% as the order gets larger, while the fixed $0.30 matters much more on small purchases. A $20 seller therefore experiences a materially higher effective rate than the headline percentage suggests.

Is there an extra Wix transaction fee?
Do not assume that every transaction-related charge has the same source. A fee might be:
- Wix Payments processing
- A fee from PayPal or another connected provider
- An app or service fee for bookings, ticketing, subscriptions, or another Wix product
- A charge associated with your Wix plan or invoice
Wix does not make a universal “there are never any other transaction fees” conclusion safe for every product, country, and payment setup. Instead, inspect the invoice and transaction details. Wix explains its monthly processing-fee invoice, including transaction-level fee and payment-status information.
When investigating a charge, identify the exact invoice line, the payment provider, the Wix product involved, your country, and the plan terms. Forum posts and old rate claims should not override the documentation for your account.
Which Wix plan do you need?
You need a Premium or Studio plan that supports payments; the free Wix plan is not sufficient for accepting payments. Wix’s payment overview identifies payment-enabled plan options, while the current plan family includes Light, Core, Business, and Business Elite.
At a high level:
- Light: positioned as a basic website plan and not the sensible assumption for payment acceptance.
- Core: typically the entry-level comparison for a business that needs to accept payments.
- Business: aimed at businesses needing more ecommerce features, capacity, or operational tools.
- Business Elite: intended for more advanced scale, collaboration, developer, or ecommerce requirements—not simply payment access.
Do not use a displayed price as a universal US price without checking the selector and billing terms. Wix states on its plans page that prices and currency vary by location, displayed prices may reflect annual subscriptions paid upfront, taxes may apply, and the final amount appears at checkout. Compare equivalent billing periods: an annual-prepay monthly equivalent is not the same as a true month-to-month price.
How Wix Payments payouts work
Wix says merchants can schedule payouts daily, weekly, or monthly after setup. That schedule describes when a payout is initiated—not a guarantee that funds will be in your bank account immediately. Wix generally advises allowing three to five business days for funds to appear in the bank.
Actual timing can be affected by:
- First-payout processing and bank-account verification
- Weekends and bank holidays
- Incorrect or rejected bank details
- Refunds, negative balances, or reserves
- Account reviews or requested documentation
- Banking-rail and bank-processing times
Before a product launch, pre-order campaign, or seasonal sales surge, complete verification and maintain enough cash to cover fulfillment, refunds, and disputes while funds are unavailable.

Payment methods and features
Depending on country, business type, eligibility, and Wix product, Wix payment options may include:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Major credit and debit cards
- Apple Pay and Google Pay
- PayPal and Venmo
- Affirm, Afterpay, and Klarna
- Online bank-transfer methods such as iDEAL, where available
- Tap to Pay and point of sale
- Recurring payments through a provider that supports recurring billing
Wix’s payment-method documentation explains that availability varies. Recurring billing is not automatically supported by every provider, and BNPL approval depends partly on the consumer and BNPL provider rather than Wix alone.
Wix also supports third-party payment providers in many countries. That can help if you need ACH, cryptocurrency, a local payment method, or a specialist recurring-billing provider. However, the provider must support your country, product, and payment type. A provider that handles one-time orders may not support memberships or subscriptions.
Verification, holds, reserves, and account reviews
Wix’s Payments Terms allow it to request identity, business, bank, website, and other documentation. They also allow Wix or its processor to suspend payments, withhold funds, cancel transactions, return funds to customers, or take other action when there is suspected fraud, a legal or terms concern, or another risk-related reason.
This does not mean every Wix merchant will experience a hold. Payment processors generally conduct risk reviews. The practical safeguards are straightforward:
- Complete verification before advertising heavily or taking deposits.
- Keep your legal business name, bank account, tax details, website, refund policy, and product descriptions consistent.
- Keep invoices, fulfillment records, shipping proof, customer messages, identity documents, and terms acceptance.
- Maintain a cash buffer for refunds and chargebacks.
- Contact Wix before a predictable, unusual sales spike and retain evidence that orders can be fulfilled.
Do not promise customers a fixed payout or resolution date unless Wix has given one for your specific account.
Refunds and chargebacks
Wix states that, for a refunded payment, the original processing fee is not returned. That means a refund can still leave the merchant paying the original processing cost, even if the customer receives the full order amount. The cited US documentation does not list an additional refund fee in that example.

Chargebacks can create a separate fee exposure. Wix notes that a chargeback fee may apply and that exceptions can exist. Because fees and exceptions may depend on country and transaction category, check the current chargeback-fee documentation rather than relying on an old universal dollar amount.
For a dispute, useful evidence can include:
- Shipping, delivery, pickup, or service-completion records
- Customer communications and cancellation history
- Refund and return-policy disclosure
- For digital products, access logs and download records
- For subscriptions, consent, renewal notices, cancellation records, and usage history
- Fraud-screening results and customer-authentication records where available
Chargeback prevention matters financially and operationally. A business with frequent disputes may face additional scrutiny regardless of which mainstream processor it uses.

The advertised 2.9% rate can be misleading for international merchants. Under the US schedule, an applicable transaction may add a 1.5% cross-border fee and a 1% currency-conversion fee when the payment currency differs from the site’s main currency. The ordinary payment-processing fee still applies.
Before choosing Wix Payments for global sales, determine:
- Whether the customer’s card is issued abroad or the payment is simply in another currency
- Your site’s main currency and the currency in which you receive settlement
- Whether you need local payment methods
- Whether the provider can settle in the currencies you need
- Whether a local-acquiring or multi-currency specialist would lower total cost
Do not generalize the US 1.5% and 1% figures to other countries. The applicable schedule may differ.

Wix may be suitable for a service business, pop-up, or online seller adding occasional in-person sales. A primarily in-person retailer should also assess whether it needs inventory synchronization, staff permissions, cross-channel returns, receipt printing, hardware, offline payments, multi-location reporting, or specialized retail functions. Square is often the more purpose-built POS ecosystem, even when Wix is the preferred website builder.

Wix Payments pros and cons
Pros
- Payments, orders, refunds, payouts, and chargebacks can be managed within the Wix ecosystem.
- Good fit for businesses already using Wix websites, ecommerce, bookings, digital products, or memberships.
- Supports cards, wallets, PayPal, selected BNPL methods, POS, and third-party providers where eligible.
- Daily, weekly, or monthly payout scheduling provides operational flexibility.
Cons
- You need a payments-enabled Wix plan in addition to per-transaction processing fees.
- The fixed fee is expensive for very small orders on an effective-rate basis.
- BNPL, PayPal, AmEx, manual entry, international, and currency-conversion transactions can cost materially more than standard cards.
- Refunds may not return the original processing fee.
- Verification, reserves, holds, and account reviews can affect cash flow.
- Businesses moving away from Wix may face more platform dependence than with an independent payment stack.
Wix Payments vs. Shopify, Square, and PayPal
Shopify Payments and Shopify
Shopify is the stronger comparison for a commerce-first business willing to change platforms. Its current US pricing page lists online standard card rates of 2.9% + $0.30 on the entry-level displayed plan, 2.7% + $0.30 on the next tier, and 2.5% + $0.30 on the higher tier. It also lists third-party transaction fees of 2%, 1%, 0.6%, or 0.2%, depending on plan, when a third-party processor is used.
The same page currently displays Basic at $39 per month when paid monthly and $29 per month when paid yearly, subject to the page’s regional and billing presentation. Shopify may offer stronger commerce tools and lower card rates on higher plans, but platform costs and migration effort can outweigh the rate difference.
Square
Square is often the better comparison for retail, appointments, restaurants, pop-ups, and businesses already using Square hardware. Square says its Free online-store plan has no monthly subscription cost, while paid plans have different processing rates. It also says next-business-day transfers to an external bank account are free and instant transfers cost extra. Its calculator displays online rates of 3.3% + $0.30, 2.9% + $0.30, or 2.9% + $0.30 depending on plan.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Compare the complete software, hardware, inventory, and transfer costs.
PayPal
PayPal can be useful as an additional checkout option or an alternative where customers strongly prefer PayPal or Venmo. Its current US business pricing page lists 3.49% + $0.49 for PayPal and Venmo, 2.99% + $0.49 for PayPal Checkout card processing, 2.89% + $0.29 for Expanded Checkout cards, 4.99% + $0.49 for Pay Later, and in-person card-present rates starting at 2.29% + $0.09, subject to product and eligibility conditions.
PayPal is not automatically cheaper. It has separate account, dispute, reserve, and fund-availability policies, and using it alongside Wix may create additional reconciliation work.
Who should use Wix Payments?
Strong fit
- Local service business: You use Wix for your site, bookings, invoices, or deposits and want straightforward administration.
- Small online store: Most sales are domestic, order values are moderate, and Wix’s ecommerce features meet your needs.
- Membership or subscription business: Your selected provider supports recurring payments and you value Wix-native customer management.
- Creator or freelancer: You need a simple way to collect payments without assembling a separate website and checkout stack.
Weaker fit
- International ecommerce seller: Cross-border and conversion fees may materially raise your effective cost.
- Low-ticket seller: The fixed fee takes a large percentage of small orders.
- High-volume merchant: A specialist processor may offer custom pricing, routing, or multiple acquiring relationships.
- POS-first retailer: Square or another retail-focused system may offer deeper operational tools.
- High-risk or dispute-heavy business: Confirm eligibility and prepare for documentation and risk review before relying on Wix Payments.
How to reduce your payment costs
- Calculate fees using your actual average order value rather than the headline percentage.
- Separate domestic, cross-border, converted-currency, BNPL, wallet, and in-person sales.
- Use bundles or minimum order values if the $0.30 fixed fee makes tiny purchases uneconomical.
- Review whether BNPL improves conversion or average order value enough to justify its higher fee.
- Avoid manual entry when a secure card-present or online flow is available.
- Reconcile the monthly processing-fee invoice with transaction-level records.
- Keep fulfillment, refund, and customer-service records to limit preventable disputes.
- Ask about volume pricing when your transaction volume makes negotiation realistic.
- Compare total annual platform, app, hardware, and payment costs—not just processing rates.
Final verdict: is Wix Payments worth it?
Wix Payments is worth it for a US-based small or midsize business that already wants Wix and values an integrated, low-maintenance payment system. The standard domestic online card rate is competitive enough for many ordinary transactions, and the unified dashboard can save time.
It is probably not the best choice if your business depends on very small orders, substantial international volume, multi-currency settlement, sophisticated retail POS, highly predictable immediate funding, or negotiated high-volume processing. In those cases, compare Wix’s complete annual cost with Shopify, Square, PayPal, or a specialist third-party provider using your actual payment mix.
The practical decision is simple: choose Wix Payments when the convenience of keeping your website and payments together is worth the plan and transaction costs; choose another setup when payment flexibility, international economics, POS depth, or custom pricing matters more than integration.
