Greeneye Technology and Farmers Business Network (FBN) teamed up to pair Greeneye’s retrofit AI spraying system with FBN’s farmer network, crop-protection business, agronomic support, financing and field trials. The idea was to make precision spraying a broader farm offering—not just a machine upgrade—while giving Greeneye a route to market and FBN a way to help farmers target herbicide use.

The partnership was announced on January 25, 2023, with a U.S. program planned for the 2024 growing season. The companies reported promising trial results, but those figures are not guarantees of savings on any particular farm. And although the companies described a long-term collaboration, available sources do not establish whether the original program remains active in the same form in 2026.

What the partnership included

The arrangement combined four pieces that are often separate in farm-equipment sales: technology, distribution, crop-protection planning and financing. FBN said it would sell Greeneye systems, develop customized crop-protection packages, offer financing for equipment and related products, and continue field trials.

  • Technology: Greeneye supplies a retrofit system designed to add precision spraying to an existing commercial sprayer.
  • Distribution: FBN serves as a sales channel intended to connect Greeneye with U.S. growers through its farmer-facing business.
  • Crop-protection packages: FBN planned customized “Precision Spraying Packs” combining crop-protection products, biologicals, adjuvants and nutrition products for use with the system.
  • Financing and support: The companies described financing for equipment and product packages, alongside installation, service and agronomic product support.

The companies announced this structure on January 25, 2023, and said the combined program was planned for the 2024 growing season. Greeneye and FBN’s announcement does not disclose the amount of FBN’s investment or say that FBN was an exclusive distributor.

What each company brought

Greeneye: retrofit hardware and selective spraying

Greeneye’s system uses cameras, computing hardware and AI to identify weeds in real time and control individual spray nozzles, applying product where the system detects a target instead of treating the entire field uniformly. Greeneye describes the system as suitable for pre-emergence and post-emergence use, including “green-on-green” conditions in which weeds must be distinguished from crops. The company also described a dual-line or dual-tank setup that can allow precision and broadcast spraying in the same operation.

The retrofit approach matters because it aims to add technology to a farmer’s existing sprayer rather than require a complete machine replacement. That could preserve the value of existing equipment and broaden the potential customer base. Retrofit does not, however, establish low cost or universal compatibility: installation, machine integration, calibration, training, service access and downtime all affect the practical cost.

In a May 2024 announcement about its first dedicated Nebraska dealership, Greeneye said its system included 24 high-resolution cameras, 12 GPUs, 144 independently controlled nozzles spaced 10 inches apart, 72 high-intensity lights for day-and-night operation, and a proprietary 120-foot aluminum boom installed on a farmer’s existing sprayer. These are company-stated specifications, not independently verified performance measures.

FBN: farmer reach, input commerce and agronomy

FBN brought a farmer network and a business built around agricultural inputs, analytics, financing and farm services. Its role was more than finding customers for a piece of equipment: it could connect a sprayer with crop-protection recommendations, product purchasing, financing and field-level evaluation.

Irrometer Model SR, 12”
  • 0-100 cb (kPa) range gauge
  • Tough Butyrate plastic body is impervious to soil chemicals or electrolysis
  • Replaceable ceramic tip
  • Air-free gauge gives accurate readings Large reservoir for easy maintenance
  • Hermetically sealed gauge designed for harsh environments

That combination gave FBN a strategic reason to participate. Precision spraying could let it help determine both which crop-protection products a farmer uses and where those products are applied. A bundled offer could also make adoption simpler for a grower who would otherwise need to source equipment, design a compatible spray program and arrange financing separately.

Why Greeneye needed FBN—and why FBN wanted Greeneye

Greeneye needed a route from technology to farms

A precision-spraying system must do more than detect weeds: it has to reach growers, fit their machinery, work during narrow application windows and have service and agronomic support behind it. FBN offered a potential distribution channel, financing capabilities, field-trial infrastructure and a farmer-facing crop-protection business. Greeneye described the deal as a sales channel intended to accelerate its U.S. growth.

FBN’s investment also aligned its financial interests with Greeneye’s growth. The 2023 announcement called it a significant investment but did not disclose a dollar amount or investment terms. Greeneye later announced a $20 million funding round on April 17, 2024, and said total investment exceeded $45 million; those figures describe Greeneye’s overall fundraising, not the size of FBN’s stake. FBN could build a wider input proposition

For FBN, the opportunity was to link weed-detection technology to tailored crop-protection products, agronomic advice, financing and performance data. If selective application reduces product volume while maintaining weed control, the value proposition may shift from selling more gallons to helping farmers use products more selectively and effectively. The commercial opportunity is therefore a technology-and-input package, not simply a claim that FBN would sell less chemical.

How the relationship developed

  1. February 2, 2022: FBN announced that Greeneye would take part in its 2022 On-Farm Field Trials Program. The trials were meant to test tailored herbicide programs across Midwestern locations and field conditions. The trial announcement
  2. 2022 growing season: FBN conducted on-farm trials of the technology and herbicide programs.
  3. January 25, 2023: The companies announced a strategic collaboration, FBN’s investment and plans for sales, product packages, financing and continued trials.
  4. 2024: The companies had planned to launch the U.S. program for that growing season. Separately, Greeneye announced a $20 million funding round in April and its first dedicated Nebraska dealership in May.

The sequence—from testing to investment and a proposed commercial package—shows how field data and a sales relationship were meant to reinforce one another. In the original trial program, the companies said manufacturer data sharing would be limited to data from farmers who opted into FBN’s On-Farm R&D Network and explicitly consented to share it for that purpose.

What precision spraying could change for farm economics

Broadcast spraying treats the full area being sprayed, including places where weeds may not be present. A camera-guided system aims to identify weeds and activate nozzles selectively. The potential economic chain is straightforward, but every link has to work:

  1. The system identifies targets in the field.
  2. Selective application uses less product than broadcast treatment for a compatible program and weed pattern.
  3. Lower product use can reduce chemical spending, especially when herbicide prices are high or weeds are scattered.
  4. Customized product recommendations may help match the spray program to the system and local conditions.
  5. Financing may spread the cost of equipment and inputs over time, although interest and fees add to total cost.

Lower herbicide use is not the same as an equal reduction in total weed-control cost. A farm’s economics also include equipment purchase and depreciation, installation, financing, labor, fuel, service, scouting, agronomic support and any additional passes. Payback depends on acres treated, crop mix, weed pressure, chemical prices, utilization, field conditions and how the farm’s existing program compares.

Other potential benefits include targeted treatment and less product applied outside intended areas. The system may also offer operational flexibility through simultaneous precision and broadcast capability, as described by Greeneye and FBN. These are potential advantages, not evidence that every farm will reduce drift, improve resistance management or increase yields.

What the reported trial figures do—and do not—show

The companies’ January 2023 announcement reported results from 2022 FBN on-farm trials and cited a University of Nebraska–Lincoln Agricultural Research Division trial. The figures concern herbicide use and costs in particular trial settings; they should not be read as guaranteed farm-level savings.

Trial or report Reported result What the figure measures—and its limit
2022 FBN on-farm trials Average 86% reduction in non-residual herbicide use Greeneye and FBN reported the average for the cited trials. It is not an all-herbicide or total-cost reduction rate, and the announcement says results had the same weed-control efficacy and crop yield as traditional broadcast spraying in those trials.
University of Nebraska–Lincoln Agricultural Research Division trial cited by the companies 94% reduction in burndown herbicide use during pre-emergence spraying A reported reduction in that trial and application context; it does not establish the result for other farms or programs.
University of Nebraska–Lincoln trial cited by the companies 87% reduction in non-residual herbicide use during post-emergence spraying A reported reduction for the post-emergence treatment in that trial, distinct from the pre-emergence figure.
University of Nebraska–Lincoln trial cited by the companies More than 60% overall cost savings The companies reported this result for that trial. The announcement does not establish that the same cost reduction applies across farms or that it includes every ownership, service and financing cost.

All four figures come from the companies’ account of the cited trials, not a universal equipment specification. The announcement reports similar or equivalent efficacy compared with broadcast spraying in those settings; it does not establish a universal yield gain, performance across every weed species or chemical program, or a standard payback period. Greeneye also cited 95.7% weed-detection accuracy at commercial travel speed in its February 2022 company material. Detection accuracy is a separate measure from weed-control efficacy, crop safety, chemical savings and yield.

What farmers should verify before considering the system

A buyer should evaluate the offer against the farm’s own equipment, spray program and acres rather than rely on trial averages. Useful questions include:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Is the system compatible with the exact sprayer make, model, boom, plumbing and control system?
  • What is the installed price, and which components, upgrades or services are excluded?
  • What are the financing APR, term, fees, collateral, down payment, eligibility rules and seasonal-payment schedule?
  • Who installs and calibrates the system, and how quickly can service respond during a narrow spray window?
  • Which crops, weeds, herbicides, rates, adjuvants and tank mixes are supported? Can it operate in both green-on-brown and green-on-green conditions?
  • What does the operator do if the system cannot confidently classify a target, or if cameras, computing hardware, lights or nozzle controls fail? Can the operator switch to broadcast spraying?
  • How are application quality and results documented? What operational or field data are stored, who can access them, and can the farmer export them?
  • What is the expected payback for the farm’s acres, application frequency, chemical program and likely utilization? Were trial savings compared with the farm’s existing program or a standardized broadcast control?

Other practical variables include dust, mud, residue, lighting, canopy structure, weed size and travel speed. A retrofit can avoid replacing an entire sprayer, but it adds electronics and software to equipment that must be maintained and available when field conditions permit spraying. Reducing herbicide volume also does not solve herbicide resistance by itself; product rotation, timing, appropriate rates and integrated weed management remain important.

What is known about availability and terms in 2026

The available company materials establish that the partnership was announced in 2023 and that a U.S. program was planned for the 2024 growing season. Greeneye’s 2024 Nebraska dealership announcement indicates a separate route for sales and service expansion, but it does not verify FBN’s current role. As of 2026, the cited sources do not establish whether FBN remains an active exclusive or nonexclusive U.S. channel, whether the original FBN program is accepting customers, or the current geographic availability or number of deployed systems.

They also do not establish current Greeneye equipment pricing, FBN package pricing, financing rates or terms, or verified average farmer savings. FBN’s program page describes the offering and invites inquiries, but it does not provide a current equipment quote or complete financing terms. A farmer should obtain written, current details on price, compatibility, installation, service coverage and financing before comparing projected payback. FBN’s Greeneye program page

For comparison, John Deere’s See & Spray is an OEM-associated precision-spraying option, while Greeneye’s proposition is retrofit-focused. A buyer comparing them should look at machine integration, supported crops and weeds, upgrade path, local dealer or service support, price and financing—not just headline chemical-reduction figures. Current 2026 configurations and prices are not established here. John Deere See & Spray

Why the deal matters beyond these two companies

The partnership illustrates a broader commercial shift in precision agriculture: from selling a machine alone toward combining retrofit hardware, AI, inputs, agronomy, financing and data-enabled services. It also reflects a move from treating every acre uniformly toward targeting weeds at the plant or nozzle level. For agtech companies, a distribution and service partner can be as consequential as a technical demonstration; for farm-input businesses, technology can become part of a more tailored product-and-advice offering.

That model succeeds only if the installed system operates reliably, fits farm workflows and produces repeatable economics. The reported trial results help explain why the companies pursued the arrangement, but a farmer’s investment decision still turns on local performance, full costs and verified current terms.
